And I haven't really seen his size and strength as too big a concern. It's not like he loses tons of puck battles in the corners. He's no Staal, but if there's one part of his game that's lacking, it's footspeed.

footspeed when he gets timid with the puck...

When he is confident, his footspeed dramatically increases, and so does his stick handling. Sadly, this happens so few times a week with him, that it makes it a hard trait to actually "want" from him

I'd take Brunner for $3M.

This is going to sound like I'm contradicting what I just wrote, but: Not sure I would. Slightly less and maybe. Brunner benefited quite a bit from playing with Zetterberg in the first half of the season and had stats that were padded during the regular season by a good PP. Not sure he would fare nearly as well on NYR.

DZ is an inch and eight pounds lighter than Girardi.

He's really not "small".

to be honest i felt DZ was tougher in the playoffs that girardi

Ever since that incident with gabby in philly when girardi didn't drop the gloves to protect him still bothers me

Just stay away from free agency this year. Streit for over $5 million is ridiculous. Only Philly would hand out that kind of contract.

Lock up our own guys and explore the trade market for a top 6 sniper. That's it.

seeing what Streit and Gonchar got.. This.

I agree^

also talk about cap hell, theyre in trouble right now, but obv this is bryz and briere buy out written all over the wall.. but still.. Richards will def be bought otu now!

that is nuts for streit..hes good but damN!!! i think we should lock up step and mcdonagh min 6 years and try get cap hit friendly at between 4-5 and call it a day..we start these BS bridge contracts, there next deals are going to be like between 6-7 at this rate!!

hags id try and sign long term to 4-5yrs like an Okposo contract type..

these bridge deals are buying us time but inesence its hard to see what our cap situation will be like.. start signing these core guys slats, enough of this hard ball ****, were going to loose dudes!!

dz i would try and trade and see the market for sure, as much of you agree!! if not w/e..hes still a solid player, top 4dman, cant wait to see that elephant get off his back since torts is gone.. i think he'll play so much better..

There will be deals to be had in UFA. Just have to be patient and find them.

Wait until next July when Del Zotto is a group II with arbitration rights this time.

Weiss has 4 teams after him. The Panthers. Red Wings. Maple Leafs. Stars. The last three teams want to acquire the player rights and sign Weiss.

The Stars traded for and signed Gonchar. They want to hire a veteran coach. Nill wanted Vigneault because they worked together in Ottawa twenty years ago. The Stars feel they can be a top team in their new division. Chicago,Colorado,Dallas,Minnesota,Nashville,STL and Winnipeg. They want Weiss. They will sign another free agent center if they can't get Weiss. The owner has a long time relationship with Iginla. Tom Galiardi,Iginla and Doan are part of the Kamloops Blazers(WHL)ownership group. The Stars will be an active team.

this is why del zotto has so much value in a trade. del zotto is now a better dman than streit and will make significantly less money while getting better with age instead of declining like the other FA dmen out there.

Del Zotto is better than Streit at exactly what? Obviously, he may have more upside than Streit and be slightly better defensively at this point in time but offensively?
Streit forgot more about that part of the game than Del Zotto may ever know.

So, a 35+ contract, 4 years, taking him up to 39 years old. 5.25. Limited NTC. Holy ****, what a pathetic contract.

Still not as bad as the one Calgary gave Dennis Wideman though....that was - mind boggling.

If Gorton doesn't get the Rangers GM job........

The first time Bergeron -- now 6-foot-2, 194 pounds -- took to the ice in training camp in 2003, the veterans on the club immediately took notice. Martin Lapointe turned to Jeff Gorton, then the Bruins' assistant general manager, and said, "Wow, this guy is a player."

"I can remember that as clear as day," Gorton said during a Sunday phone conversation. "The most impressive thing about the guy is he's never changed. He's the same guy. He goes about his business. He's always been about the team and thought about everybody else. That's a big part of it."

The Bruins had Bergeron ranked as a first-round talent in that draft. They had three players they were targeting with their picks at No. 21 overall and No. 45: Zach Parise, Mark Stuart and Bergeron. They never got a shot at Parise, but landed the other two.

On the day the Bruins drafted Bergeron, he went over to the Boston draft table and O'Connell leaned over to Gorton and said, 'Wow, this kid is serious.' "

Bergeron will get a long term extension sometime soon.

Maybe, I wouldn't touch any of the "high end" group this year. I remember we had agreed upon a signing like Boyd Gordon for 4th line center. With AV's hire, I'd be more on board with that to get someone that can improve the PK and win faceoffs on defensive zone starts to improve the transition game.

I'd argue that Wideman is a much better deal than Streit at this point considering age alone.

del zotto had 6 less points while playing through a sports hernia injury. streit is 35 years old and has been declining for a few years.

Jordan Staal gets $6.5M, Bergeron should get $7M+. What will Krejci get when his $5.25M deal is up? Probably only a few 100k less than Bergeron.

The Lucic and Seguin deals are going to make the cap situation tricky in Boston in a few years. If I have to choose 3 out of 4 from Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic, and Seguin, it is one of the latter 2 that is let go 10 out of 10 times.

Ever since that incident with gabby in philly when girardi didn't drop the gloves to protect him still bothers me

Congratulations! You are the 10000th poster to complain about this! Your perseverance in holding a grudge is truly remarkable.

Tell him what he's won, Johnny!

FFS, let it go already. All the **** he's done for this team over the years, and on a cheap contract to boot, and you are gonna hate on him for 1 play where he didn't jump in? In case you didn't notice, Girardi and Gabby weren't the only Rangers on the ice at the time. No one else jumped in to help either. Maybe they didn't want to take a 3rd man in penalty when they were fighting to make the playoffs. Crazy, I know, showing discipline.

Hey, why don't you complain about Dubi holding out and missing a couple days of training camp? I haven't heard that one in a while.

The 2 Nucks players that AV would probably like on the roster is Raymond and Lapierre. They have established relationships, they are FA's and they shouldn't cost much.

Clowe wanted $34M over 8 years from San Jose. His agent reportedly agreed to 8 years/$30M with the Flyers at the trading deadline but Philly couldn't complete a trade with SJ. $4.25M AAV and $3.75M AAV. Unless the market for Clowe has completely bottomed out, some team will pay him.

That was before his 2 concussions. i hope and expect Clowe to come back healthy next season, but the 2 concussions are a risk that has a cost.

Both of those would be great depth pickups and not cost too much.

Would Lapierre mean the end of Boyle?

The bottom six?

Raymond-Lindberg-Fast
Dorsett-Lapierre-Miller

Not bad.

I have a hunch Boyle will be traded. AV would like to make a clean break from Torts system. Boyle is the perfect candidate, he was a Torts guy.

Couture signed a long term deal with the Sharks. Curious to know what the value will be at. My guess is 5.5-6.5m per at 8yrs.

The barometer for a Stepan contract.
