Assuming Faulk is untouchable, if we're making a deal with Carolina, I'd be much more inclined to target Ryan Murphy rather than McBain as far as defensive pieces.

Murphy hasn't made any offensive improvements since his draft year, and is undersized. That might matter less under AV than Tortorella, but for me, even MDZ is too small for my liking. Eminger is about as small a blueliner as I like to see.

Exhibit #9017, UFAs get P-A-I-D.

Weiss is not signing for 4M. Clowe/Horton are not signing for 3.25.

Some nutso team may actually give Clarkson 5M.

this is why del zotto has so much value in a trade. del zotto is now a better dman than streit and will make significantly less money while getting better with age instead of declining like the other FA dmen out there.

probably rules out a del zotto for schenn or couturier trade tho since del z and streit are both offensive d-men and lefty shots and philly will buyout briere.

I don't think a nutso signing in regards to pay, age, and value is going to define the FA/trade market as much as it looks atm.

This is more indicative of the kind of things you can make happens (or the kind of deals) with certain crazy GMs and less about the market. That said, there are not all that many stupid GMs left

Mark Streit is now tied for the 20th highest cap hit among NHL defenders. In what universe, even if you remove RFAs, is Mark Streit the 20th - hell even the 25th - best defenseman in the league?

I feel bad for Flyers fans... eh, who am I kidding? Nope, not really. Good luck next season.

Prob said already but if we look into this which i strongly hope we do, if streit recieved that contract im eager to see a return for mdz

The Detroit Red Wings have some expensive decisions to make over the next few weeks in regards to unrestricted free agents Valtteri Filppula and Damien Brunner.

Word is Filppula is seeking north of $5 million per and Brunner between $3-$4 million. I’m told it’s doubtful the team will go that high with either player. GM Ken Holland would like to keep both of them if they start speaking the same language.

These players are on crack.

That's why Glenn was adamant when dealing with Del Zotto. He knows McD and Hagelin follows let alone Henrik's contract. Good job Glen.

That Filppula # is nothing new. That was reported early on in the season. Agreed that it is way too much for a team to shell out for him in a cap league. But from his perspective, I don't think it is unreasonable to be asking for it. If it is a possibility that Clarkson gets $5M, then Filppula is worth at least that much. Miles better in every aspect of the game save for physicality.

For Brunner I think its tough to gauge since this is his first season in the NHL and he has gone through a bit of an adjustment to the smaller ice and style of play. Despite a bit of a slump in the middle of the season, he was pretty big for the Wings in the first 20 or so games of the season and in the playoffs. Was on pace for about a 50 point season and played a fairly defensively responsible game. I could absolutely see him getting on the low end of that range.

>Takes comment and transforms

So you're saying you don't want Karlsson??? :sarcasm:

Gonchar 5M AAV.. Streit 5.25M AAV.. Rangers absolutely need to see what the market is for Del Zotto (2.5M), and as much as I love him Staal (3.775M).. We could maybe get a buttload for either or both.

DZ is an inch and eight pounds lighter than Girardi.

He's really not "small".

And I haven't really seen his size and strength as too big a concern. It's not like he loses tons of puck battles in the corners. He's no Staal, but if there's one part of his game that's lacking, it's footspeed.

he doesn't lose them but he doesn't win them either.

Del Zotto at 2.5M is a steal compared to some of these ridiculous contracts being handed out to people well past their prime.
