I think I would lean towards the #7 + over Yakupov.

If they can grab Paajarvi as well, there wingers would be HUGE moving forward. Nichuskin, Nash, Kreider, Pajaarvi. Hard to contain that many good skating big men.

Add to them Fast, Hagelin and Callahan who are all very good skaters as well and this team could easily turn up the speed of their game quickly.

hope he pulls the trigger and does something like this we need to find some scoring somehow

Drouin is the easy choice, but Stevie Y likes his Russians. Personally, I think Nichushkin will be a 30+ goal scorer in this league with 70 point upside.

they say drouin is similar to martin st louis so why not, either way both look good wouldnt mind ether

If you go with that, the Rangers really will start to go by the Boston model of building a team. Stepan and Brassard down the middle to provide offense and good two way play. Lindberg and Miller down the middle to play good D and chip in offensively.

Nash, Kreider, Paajarvi, Nishushkin are all over 6'3" and have skill. Then you have your puck hounds in Hagelin and Callahan. This is not taking Fast whom will be a nice player if he can stay healthy. Not bad. Still all a pipe dream though :cry:

if only we were the gm and could make this trade, we could speculate a lot but i have to wonder if sather is gonna make a move

I would hope he realizes this is the time to make a deal. Del Zotto is a nice player, but he will be looking to cash in after his contract is up next summer. That will be after paying McDonagh anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5 million.

The Rangers need to acquire a 1st or 2nd line LW scorer. The Rangers can get one by dealing from a position of strength. Do the Rangers think Nichushkin can step in and play top 6 minutes right away? The armchair GM's on HF may think so, but that's not to say the organization does.

The good news is; we all agree we need to move either Staal or MDZ this offseason, and look out... there are a bunch of teams offering good young forwards for a blueliner.

The market is good for us right now.

Yep. I think that if they don't move one of them this off-season, it will be a missed opportunity.

Just typed up a monster of a post for Howlings.net. Not sure if it will be posted there or not, but here's where I ended up:

Coach: Lindy Ruff

Chris Kreider – Derek Stepan – Rick Nash
Carl Hagelin – Derrick Brassard – Ryan Callahan
Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson – Oscar Lindberg – Mats Zuccarello
Derek Dorsett – Brian Boyle – Arron Asham

Marc Staal – Dan Girardi
Ryan McDonagh – Anton Stralman
John Moore – Rob Scuderi/Michal Rozsival
Steve Eminger

The King – Henrik Lundqvist
Martin Biron

I think a Del Zotto for Couturier or Scheen swap is a bit far-fetched. A deal like that going down within the division?

I dont particularly agree that we have to move them.

Ill never forget reading in a 30 thoughts post that a GM was quoted saying "If you have Defense to Trade, you are in position A"

like what forwards?

Most specifically Schenn and Couturier, who I'm very high on. If Couturier developed more offense he could be a Selke trophy candidate; kid reminds me a lot of Jordan Staal.

Rumor has it Oilers would be willing to move Yakupov, of course that is a huge opportunity and IMO the #1 think Sather should be looking into once a new coach is named. The Rangers haven't had a top scoring forward in his early 20's in as long as I can remember.

The Ducks fanbase also is insistent that Bobby Ryan could be moved for a good defenseman. Staal for Ryan, with minor variations has been bandied about on this board for years.

If you trade Staal or Del Zotto, they'll have to be replaced - by a mystery player or a prospect. This team doesnt exactly have an embarrassment of riches on the blueline.

Would I dangle them? Sure. But I dont think trading either one of them is a sure thing by any means.

schenn and couturier are not happeing we wont trade with flyers. would love ryan but they need forwards and are looking to improve their 2nd line. also love yakupov but they are gonna ask for a ton in return

As does Boyle and Clowe. Also, Boyle and Clowe immediately make them bigger and tougher to play against up front which they lack.

MDZ adds a puck-mover who can grow with their core and play 20+ minutes a night in all situations. He is a physical player as well.

I think it makes sense. I would hope for a conditional 2nd, condition being if Clowe signs.

Don't the Rangers also lack that same exact thing? I'm wary of anything that makes NYR easier to play against. The Bruins showed how soft they were even with Boyle.

Yakupov would be expensive, for sure.

The Flyers traded us Lindros. Injury issues aside, that was a pretty big deal. With divisions now 7-8 teams wide, people aren't going to be able to afford cutting an entire quarter of the league out of trade dealings.

i agree btw not a fan of realignment, but honestly what do you think it takes to get yakupov?

Yes. They have to be able to replace that type of player if they are dealt. If they don't plan on extending Clowe then that's not a problem. Boyle would be a loss but to add a top-6 18 year old winger who is 6'3 like Nichuskin, it's a no brainer. Replace him via another trade or UFA with someone like Gordon or Moore.

Good points. I'm not against the idea, but like I said, I'm wary of giving up size. If there's a plan to replace it, then all is well.

Del Zotto
Zuccarello
Skjei/McIlrath

Might be what they ask for, and you work it from there. I think Zucc would be a perfect fit in their system, he's cheap, and does a lot of the sort of things that made their fans overvalue Hemsky so much, so that could be a good pitch. We only have 2 good dman prospects, so I included them as an either/or.

BTW guys, Dominic Moore is not a Boyle replacement. Totally different players. Moore might be more of a Matt Cullen replacement.

The Rangers have traded with Philly. Malakhov for a 2nd and Kozak. Lindros trade. Froese for Seaweed. It was a while ago but the teams have made trades. You can't limit yourselves to teams outside your division because it eliminates 25% of the NHL in the new NHL. No trades with Jersey or the Islanders. That's it. The Flyers need a D. Their fans want Shattenkirk or Petro from the Blues. Is that all? The Rangers have traded with Pitt too. Zubov and Nedved for Robitaille and Ulf. Kovalev for Nedved. Then Mikael Samuelsson and others for Kovalev.

The Oilers don't really lack for dman prospects, though. They're actually shorter on forward prospects. They have a crappy blueline in the NHL, but their pipeline is fairly decent.
