Or wait as Anisimov's goal scoring prowess continues to increase on a year-to-year basis. I don't expect him to be a world-beater, but he's a pretty damn good player and the type that the pundits are wanting. Puck possession hockey player. He is a much better player than Kreider and was also the Rangers top prospect at one point.

For this board being so high on depth down the center, I was one of the very few who said last year to move Kreider instead of Anisimov because Nash was taking the place of Kreider, we MIGHT have been able to keep our 1st rounder, and anisimov would have been a perfect 3c.. Centers would have been Stepan-Anisimov-Brassard-Boyle with Nash taking the place of Kreider, but everyone said I was nuts because Kreider had so much upside.

heart and soul only take you so much. Girardi doesnt have enough offense to justify paying him 5M per season, and its not likely to increase anytime soon.

Girardi shouldn't be payed for his offensive contributions though.

i don't think it was moving too fast, i think he was overthinking everything trying not to make any mistakes.

He did the same thing in college as a freshman early on.

Offensively if he lets himself play, he is fine. His instincts are good. He just needs to trust himself and play through some of the bumps in the road.

seems like sign of low hockey iq. (kreider's biggest knock)

There are legit concerns with Kreider.. Kershaw is right he's not part of the future going forward yet, BUT he has all the skills needed to be just that. He however has to give 100% effort on every shift and in every game and use his speed and size more like Nash does, He's got the speed, skating, passing ability and the ability to finish, everything you want in a top 6 forward, but he does have to put it all together.

edit.. and sorry Kershaw, I thought you were saying he had no shot to be part of the core going forward despite the physical tools he possesses.

Or it could mean he's a rookie player that was a bit overwhelmed with the faster pace of pro hockey.

God forbid.

It could mean that too, possibly.

You can know a lot about a topic and still "over think" it.

Also quite true.

Some players just see the game at a higher level. Which is why you see a guy like Derek Stepan, small, soft, slow, yet is the best defensive player on the team and produces more/on par with 'big and fast' players like Kreider and Nash.

I think from a cap perspective the Rangers will have to choose between keeping Staal or Girardi in 2014/2015> and if they pick up one of the DMen below.
I would buyout Richards 6.7M
I would rather take Iginla than Clowe. (Thinking 4 yrs./16M)
I would sacrifice either Hagelin/MDZ and Stralman/Pyatt/Asham
to get a top 4 DMan who can Quaterback the PP. (Byfuglien/Edler/Yandle/Boyle)

the main board (jets/ranger fans) have discussed a del zotto for Buff swap, which I might be on board with. I don't want Iginla especially at 4 years,

so you want to pay him 5M just to be a shut down defenseman? thats more than Staal is getting who the Rangers consider the "rock" of the defense.

Of course, 5m is the going rate for top defenders like Girardi in today's salary cap. Staal and Girardi's previous contracts were bridge contracts, both are going to be paid.

you probably would not have gotten Brassard if Columbus didn't have Anisimov already.

Thinking about it, honestly wouldn't mind getting Iginla IF he gets a Naslund-like contract (2 years, $4M per).

Zuccarello-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Iginla
Kreider-Miller-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

Probably more of a pipe dream than anything. Some dumbass will give him $5M per for 4 years. Hopefully it isn't out dumbass giving him that.

I agree that he has great speed and a good shot, but I don't think he is overly skilled or has great hands. Maybe they are good, but his speed may be too fast for his hands possibly. Haven't really notice his playmaking ability as much either TBH.

Would rather skip going after Iginla, and address the LW situation, which makes me cringe everytime I look at it.

Forget the cost of getting him, what is your ideal scoring winger missing on this team?
Somebody in the mold of Lucic is what i think is needed. That's why I think Clowe is the next best thing. Would love to hear what others think.

I think investing in Clowe is like trying to put a new paint job on an old, beat-up pickup truck.

Clowe is nowhere near as dominant on the boards or forecheck as Lucic.

To me:

"Core" pieces, or players that the team will build around:

Nash, Stepan, McDonagh, Staal, Callahan, Lundqvist, Brassard (perhaps premature, but his performance down the stretch and in the playoffs was really incredible; either way, I think the team plans to build around him, and that's what I'm listing him here)

Complimentary players to supplement the core:

One of Girardi or Del Zotto, Kreider, Miller, Hagelin, Stralman, Moore, Zuccarello (a couple of these players could transition to "core" based on their performance over the next few years)

Role players:

Boyle and Dorsett

The rest of the players on the team aren't worthy of mention, although I like how Pyatt played in the playoffs.

***

Would like to see a piece added to current core, at wing; perhaps Kreider can become that player. Hopefully, DZ or Girardi can be moved for a player who could cross over into that category (preferably DZ).

I don't dissagree, but the term "role player" can have many meanings. And in a cap world, it seems like the more defined roles you have the easier it is to get a complete product.

The bottom 6 moves would be fine to explore. Overall, I want guys that know and accept their role on the 3rd/4th lines. I want guys that actually enjoy going out there and creating havoc.

I still think its pretty absurd that we cannot cultivate these type of guys from within.

Maybe if AV is hired he can hide Dale Weise in his moving van. Then the Rangers could have a home grown 4th liner again.

Legit concerns? Really? Like scoring 5g in the playoffs last year including 2 gwg, 1 in a must win elimination game? How about his gwg in round 2?

No. The only legit concerns were him being misused in a shortened season by a hard@ss coach.
That's been taken care of.

Put him on a line with talent and you see what he can do. Play him 5m on the 4th line with Asham, bounce him all over the lineup, send him down a couple of times....

Those are legitimate concerns. Problem solved .

Weren't you also open to including Stepan?

I'm not keen on going halfway with a split between a disappointing Paajarvi and a 7th pick that their GM can't wait to be rid of.

If we're trading, it needs to be for a sure thing at forward. Not Sjostrom 2.0.

Not sayin no on MPS just to be contrary, but if we want to undertake an interesting project former first Beach from Chicago would be much cheaper, and he has a roughly similar physical skillset.
