Regardless, Yakupov and MacKinnon are comparable players. And I would move anyone not named Lundqvist for either of those two players.

don't mean to be rude but seems you don't care for any Ranger but him. like the rest suck w some of ur comments

We have had 8 seasons since the lockout with Henrik in net. Each year we have been in the top 10 in goals against, and 6 of the 9 years we have been in the top 5.

Why, then, is it so terrifying a prospect to have a less than big-name defender on the third doggone pairing if there is an injury? Why is everyone so scared to deal a defenseman? We were top 5 in goals against with Rozsival and Malik as our top pairing.

Since the lockout, the Rangers have been in the top 10 in goals for... 0 times out of 8.

NYR could trot out

McD-Giardi
Moore-Eminger
Hamrlik-Bickel

On D next season and still probably finish top 10 in defense because of Henrik. That's not far off from

Malik-Rozsival
Poti-Kasparitus
Strudwick-Tyutin

Stop frightening yourselves over the prospect of dealing D for forwards. It HAS to be done.

not mcdonagh.. staal, maybe. anyone else yes

That's because he is a superstar player. And definitely not true, I like many players on the Rangers, but I won't try to convince myself they're superstar players.

McDonagh has never been on the open market. Regardless, Garrioch is a very hit and miss type source. I believe he is throwing **** at the wall to get ratings.

Pretty much, Yakupov in reality is a pipe dream, but if he is indeed available it would be very shocking.

Easier said than done. Do you mean add 30 points to his current production level? Well yeah, he'd be a 60 point all around defender. But it's pretty unrealistic to expect a 30 pt jump in production.

Nah, 30 points in the entire season. There aren't too many defensemen in this league that play as smartly as him, can skate like him, and add 6-8 goals and 20-30 assists. If he gets power play time, I can see him perenially putting up 40 point seasons.

If McDonagh consistently put up 60 point seasons he'd be in the same sentence as Leetch and Park when talking about all time greats on the blue line for the franchise.

u called Nash overrated when in a full season he was on a 40/40 pace

Nash is a star. Definitely not a super-duper star but a star nevertheless and yes im counting the small playoff sample of "he looks dangerous every shift but cant put up thr points". We have two more stars in waiting i believein Stepan and McD. As the Pens will show, super-duper stars are nice but Boston will show them what a bunch of really decent players playing on edge can do i think.

I've been calling overrated well before he joined the Rangers and all throughout the offseason where I was STRONGLY opposed to getting him. He is simply not a 7.8m player. Far too many better players make much less than he does. The 8mil range is superstar player territory.

Look at the date of the post made. I was never a fan.

Rick Nash is a pretty good 1st line player and possibly a star player, but I don't think he's worth 7.8m on the cap. He's like the Amare Stoudemire of the NHL.

Don't really see the Bruin comparision tbh.

Losing guys like Staal, Del Zotto, and Stralman would actually hurt our offense. Think about it, good defensive defensemen help your offense because you don't get pinned in your zone as much. Also those defensemen are pretty good at moving the puck up the ice. That Hamrlik-Bickel would get burned every time they're on the ice and even if Henrik is there to cover up their mistakes the opposing team will still be spending time outside of their zone.

fair enough but a ppg is a superstar player.. If he went 40/40 he's worth his contract. we will see what he does over 82 next season

It would, yes. I'm simply making the point that people are being far too flighty about dealing defensemen.

We've shown, and its well known that when you have a goaltender like Henrik, who has been good enough to have NYR in the top 5 in goals against even with patchwork defenses, it would be a good allocation of resources to deal defenders for scoring forwards on an offensively starved team.

When a Yakupov, or a Vanek, or a Bobby Ryan becomes available, I'm not balking because of the horrifying prospect that we're one injury away from having Eminger in the lineup. It's silly.

Great post. On the ball, 100%.

That second defense is frightening.

If the Rangers could even give Hank 2.5 goals per game he will win 95% of his games. That's an adv, we don't have to have a pitts or chi offense, just a decent one and still be a top contender

Completely disagree, point totals don't really tell the whole story. A one-dimensional winger with a PPG season is found pretty much every season. (Bobby Ryan, Jakub Voracek, Max Paccioretty, Ray Whitney).

That's like wanting Tavares for Del Zotto. Ridiculous

Not really. Yakupov was a first overall pick just last year and has far from disappointed.

Love McD, but it's fair to ask for Edmonton. If they honestly would trade Yak for DZ, I'd laugh in their face. Wouldn't surprise me with the level of incompetency they display on a regular basis, like essentially ruining Justin Schultz.

How is Schultz essentially ruined?

I'm exaggerating, to be honest. I do think how they handled Schultz, though, was really, really poor. They threw him right to the wolves.

He obviously has the chance to rebound, but with how they handled him, I wouldn't be surprised if he continued struggling next year.

I don't think he was rushed. He was groomed for this role in college hockey for years. He is already a 20 MPG dman and top 10 PPQBs in the league. Ken Holland, notorious for ripening his prospects, was guaranteeing him a roster spot during the sweepstakes.

I don't think he was rushed...but I think they overplayed him at ES. Big reason why his +/- was so bad this year.

I think he has the potential to be a very, very good player. He just needs to be developed properly. I'm concerned about that considering he's with Edmonton, and their coaching staff doesn't seem very competent in that sense.
