I'd do Tlusty/McBain/1st. Tlusty is a goal scorer, and a very good two-way player.

Kreider/Tlusty-Stepan-Nash
Kreider/Tlusty-Brassad-Zuccarello

Good top-6.

We could also pick up a high end center/winger prospect, maybe even move up and pick Drouin.

This I could do. I'd live with this. So long as we dont dump more than 1 of our D men. Then we'd be in a hairy situation.

Id like Tlusty but i bet the Canes keep him. he is on a decent contract right now for them...

I am not high on Tlusty, he is shooting 20%, that is not sustainable. He is a 3rd line player who got hot, he will fall back to earth.

Where is he projected to go?

From Katie Strang;
3. What to do with ailing power play?

Put plainly, the Rangers woeful power-play unit, just 4-for-44 (9.1%) was absolutely dreadful in the playoffs. For much of the regular season, too. In fact, this has been something that has hamstrung the team for years as they have searched, to no avail, for a right-handed defenseman with a big shot to quarterback their power play. That will be one of the team’s top priorities this summer, since the team’s current personnel seems incapable of turning things around themselves. The Rangers are one team that also does not employ a power-play coach – Mike Sullivan is Tortorella’s only assistant – so perhaps a specialist could be brought in to help.

Let the speculation begin.

I get annoyed when reporters get their terminology screwed up. The Rangers don't need a QB, they need a triggerman. What she described was a triggerman not a QB.

uhh..

Anyways, Mark Streit is the only real guy they can buy off as a UFA(he is also a lefty, though I don't think handedness should be the deciding factor) . Otherwise, they will have to make a trade.

Another thing about Streit: Even though he has a very good shot, that isn't his best asset.

You are correct.

I'd hate to move Staal, but Tlusty/McBain/7th overall is a no brainer

edit: 5th. even better

I believe the Canes have the 5th overall. Is there a consensus order as to who will go after Jones/Mackinnon/Drouin?

And would the Rangers want to grab that elusive PP triggerman (who they can find in Ristolainen) or a dynamic, play-making forward with a high ceiling (Barkov/Nichushkin/Lindholm/Monahan)?

I know this was probably talked about earlier but I'll add my two sense and say this, trading Lundqvist or letting him walk after next year is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. It's equivalent to the Yankees trading Jeter. Absolutely ridiculous and you just can't do it.

Jeter won rings.

If Hank won a cup, then he'd easily be a Ranger for life.

But trading Hank is an idea that may be best for both sides. Granted, if the Rangers decide to rebuild the proper way.

Lundqvist may end up being this generation's Eddie Giacomin. Most importantly, it's up to him if he wants to test the market or stay. My money's on him staying.

I have no idea who would be a right handed defenseman with a big shot that we'd go after. Everyone I can think of that'd be available has a glaring deficiency to their game. Example: Anton Babchuk is the only name I can think of. Flaw: He's horrible defensively

Agreed that there is a difference with championships won but he's the heart and soul of the team. The only thing that sucks is that after next year he'll be 33 years old and looking for one more big contract. Do the Rangers give it to him? I think they have to. What can you get in return for him if a trade is brought up. A few if us were discussing all of this today.

Most of us agree there was too much turnover from last year to this one, so why are we looking to do it again?

Stand pat, no way Richards and Nash have a repeat struggle next year. If they do then you have to look at a coaching change which is what so many Ranger fans really want. IMO if the roster stays pretty much the same it's a clear message to Torts to make it work or your out. Obviously minor changes have to be made to keep the cap in order, just no huge sweeping changes, no big signings, no new change of direction.

The Canes do indeed have the 5th overall pick.

I wonder what it would take to get that #1 pick from the Avs if the got the 5th overall.

I'm just gonna say I seriously disagree with you guys and leave it at that.

Counting on MDZ, Stralman, Moore, and McBain to play significant minutes (especially playoff minutes) has the potential to be an absolute trainwreck defensively. I know Hank is Hank but I hope he's ready to face odd man rushes for 82 games.

That's why you flip the 5th overall plus to the Avs and select Jones.

McD - Jones
MDZ - Girardi
Moore - Stralman/McBain

Pipe dreams.

I think we are in a position to trade one of Staal/MDZ for a legit 1st line winger if Sather can make the trade. We just aren't deep enough in attack.

1st LW Stepan Nash
Kreider Brassard Callahan
Hagelin Lindberg/Miller Zuccarello
Asham/Pyatt Boyle Dorsett

McDonagh Girardi
Staal/MDZ Stralman
Moore RHD
Eminger

i think we could handle the loss of one of MDZ or Staal if we can get a legit young 1st line winger.

So we have what...?

Staal is better than MDZ. But he has vision problems, and Carolina being in the situation that they are, Sather might be in line to either get extra value/ be forced to trade him or else lose him for nothing.

For MDZ, you trade him, you'll miss him a lot less than Marc Staal. But what can you get for him? We've discussed Yakupov. Hall. I don't think he gets us there. I don't want to trade MDZ for some middling 15 goal winger, either.
