(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL: $55,740,000 BONUSES: $762,500
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $9,322,500

My Fear:
Putting $9,322,500 in cap space in front of Glenn Sather is like putting a flamethrower in front of a pyromaniac.

Sorry didn't mean that, edited original post lol. Meant special teams, because yes he is solid down low on the PP.

MAB wouldn't be a terrible pick up, he's pretty pedestrian outside of the PP though. Have to carry seven D just to use him on the special teams, or six and rotate five which with our D is fine during the regular season but they get worn own in the PO's. Would like someone who can take a regular shift.

Oh, okay. I think Callahan would flourish on a good 3rd line like Pominville in Minnesota.

We could try pairing MAB with Staal 7-8 minutes a night or use him as a winger at ES.

They haven't had thirteen round in a while. ;)

I've picked out three UFA that I think would be good fits.

Mark Streit
Powerplay pointman team has been desperately lacking.

PPP/60 last three years:
3.29, 4.34, Inj.

Michael Ryder
Has shown an ability to put the puck in the net, especially on the powerplay.

PPP/60 last three years:
7.75, 3.07, 4.74

Raffi Torres
Will be suspended for at least half the games next season, but provides snarl, and is a great even strength producer. Likely could be had for far below his fair value.

ESP/60 last three years:
2.15, 1.81, 1.62

you would pick these. I think I disagree with every single thing you've ever posted.

Torres? Really? Do I need to say anything? He's a dirty player. We don't need a guy like that, here.

We also don't need a washed up Islander Captain. He looked absolutely horrific vs. Pittsburgh.

Ryder is meh... indifferent.

I agree, as do many around here that Callahan is the ideal 3rd line wing for this team, it's one of those cases where I think reducing overall minutes from 2nd to 3rd line would translate to higher production.

If the team could get Brian Leetch to work with the D group, especially Moore and DelZotto we'd see some benefits on the PP and in all around play. Also a solid veteran D man as a stabilizing influence, as we saw with Hamrlik picking up another team's cast off isn't generally an effective way to add depth.

I've seen Streit's name mentioned before, he would be a quality addition to the group.

Now that the Rangers are eliminated and are actually in the offseason, here's what I'd do.

-Re-sign Clowe, but only for no more than 3 years and for 3.75 million/season or less. Otherwise, he can take a hike.

-At the beginning of the season I always thought the Rangers would buy Richards out next summer. The more I think about it, the more I think they should do it this summer. Why risk Richards getting hurt next season and be stuck with him past next summer when we're trying to re-sign Hank, Callahan, and Girardi?

-Subnote: Lindberg or Miller is the 3rd line center on opening night. They will impress and thrive at it too. My money's on Lindberg.

-Obviously bring back all of Stepan, McD, Hagelin. Qualify Sauer, sign him to a two way deal to see if he'll ever play hockey again.

-Let Pyatt walk. He impressed me this playoffs, but we have kids in the system that can do what he does for half the cap hit.

-Bring Eminger back to be the 7th defenseman.

-Depending on the health of Staal, entertain offers for Del Zotto. Loui Eriksson should be the top target if he indeed is being shopped as rumored. I wouldn't trade Staal, he either plays or goes on the LTIR list.

-Stay away from Ribeiro and Roy. You just know that Sather will do something stupid if Richards is bought out, though. Would take Weiss on a one year deal, though I think someone overpays for him, both in term and money.

-Stay away from the UFA market outside of Clowe entirely. There may be some interesting names that get amnestied that would be worth a look on a one year deal. Save money for 2014.

-Give Kreider top 6 minutes. Him and Stepan have good chemistry from the 2010 WJC's, it may be time to re-visit that. Hagelin should be a part of a vicous forechecking 3rd line, not going up against the Charas and Orpiks of the league.

-Give McIlrath a long look in camp. A mean crease clearer is something we've been missing since Sauer got concussed. Deal with the growing pains as time goes on.

-Now comes the coaching situation. From within, call up Brian Leetch and see if he wants to coach the team. From the outside, call up Scott Gordon and see if he wants to be a head coach again. If both say no, keep Torts. There's really no one better out there that wouldn't be a lateral move and be a change for the sake of making a change otherwise. Torts gets one more year if he's still the coach come training camp. If he keeps playing stone age hockey and refuses to open up the offensive scheme, he's gone.

-Find another goal scorer somehow. If Del Zotto isn't traded for one, give Christian Thomas a long look in camp. His ability to rip one timers from the left circle should give him consideration alone. That ability would improve the team's power play immensely.

Otherwise, no changes. As much as it sucks to lose in the second round, we really were decimated by injuries and bad luck. The Gaborik trade was a good one, it gave us pieces to work with for the future, rather than be stuck with nothing but cap space, which is a terrifying proposition.

I'd roll with

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe/Scorer acquired in trade-Brassard-Callahan
Hagelin-Miller/Lindberg-Zuccarello
Haley-Boyle-Dorsett

Fast starts in the minors, is the first call up

Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-Stralman
Moore-Eminger/McIlrath

Del Zotto is paired with Staal and McDonagh and Girardi together if not traded.

Lundqvist
Biron/Talbot

Where are we letting Pyatt walk? Into the second year of his contract?

and why, even if he gets put on the 3rd/4th line he fits that role well.

And what young kids do the rangers have that are 6'4 240 and play like Pyatt in front of the net and along the boards? Yes he is no superstar, but they need more of those guys, not less

Anyone know if McD has intentions of resigning with the Rangers? I know his fiance is in Minnesota planning their wedding.

Imagine if he took off to go play with Parise and Suter? You'd have to think him playing with Suter would greatly increase their chances for next year, and you know all the hometown crowd would love it.

Agreed.

Pyatt is such a scapegoat. He is experienced, played very well in the playoffs, and adds an element of size/strength along the wall that works well with Boyle. Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett will be one of the better fourth lines in the league next seasob,

6'4 who got abused by 5'8 Krug last night. Pyatt the Pylon as others have dubbed him should go.

McD isn't going anywhere.

yes, getting hit from behind into a goalie on one play defines a career.

If someone can tell me who the rangers are going to play instead of Pyatt, Id love to hear it.

And you know this because? You act like he might not be frustrated and chose not to resign with the Rangers. I know if I was in his shoes I would be thinking differently.

frustrated about what? Not winning the cup?

And hes going to choose to go play for the wild instead?

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

That's pretty ridiculous. Why would he be frustrated? Because the Rangers were eliminated in the 2nd round? Yeah, he'd definitely run off to Minnesota, who was embarrassed by Chicago in the first round (when Chicago was running at about 50%).

Maybe as a UFA he'd go there because it's his home town. But he's a RFA. I know he's not going anywhere because there is no indication that he won't re-sign.

Finding someone that can score 5 goals a year, actually hit once in a while and cost under $1.5Mn a year, is not very hard to find. Don't let the 6'4" frame and board play fool you, he's a 4th liner at best.

Pyatt was 5th on the team in hits in the playoffs.

If he is easy to find, then surely you can name an easy inexpensive replacement for him.

Oh man, that will be such a grinder of a line if that does happen.

That's a 4th line that we need, that will chip away at opposing teams.

Asham, there ya go;)
Oh, and btw how many goals/pts did he have in the playoffs??
He's a 4th liner...not hard to find

That was a pretty decent third line for us. If that's our fourth line, we have depth.

Fill the 3rd line center and top-6 wing spot, and the team is up and running.

So a mil a year is fine by you, but 1.5 mil is way too expensive?

Always find it interesting how this board wants to be so cheap on the 3/4th line. Those guys can win you plenty of games. Id rather spend more money and improve the bottom 6 than cut corners

And Pyatt had twice the points of Asham in the playoffs. So not sure your point
