SALARY CAP: $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL: $55,740,000 BONUSES: $762,500
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $9,322,500

I am going to say add Clowe and Weiss to that list and there are the moves. Eminger maybe a spare again too. They likely move a body like Pyatt and Haley spares as a forward

So a mil a year is fine by you, but 1.5 mil is way too expensive?

Always find it interesting how this board wants to be so cheap on the 3/4th line. Those guys can win you plenty of games. Id rather spend more money and improve the bottom 6 than cut corners

And Pyatt had twice the points of Asham in the playoffs. So not sure your point

First off, I wasn't comparing production between the two players, since Pyatt played double the minutes than Asham, although I know they both had 2 goals...

Secondly, I wasn't looking at salary alone. I prefer a player SUCH as Asham over Pyatt on THIS Rangers team 10 times out of 10. You mention he was fifth on the team in hits, but I'm sure his hits are the game changing and momentum changing ones we needed...salaries are a wash.

I want someone on the 4th line who can hit hard and intimidate, not throw "soft" hits, especially since Boyle would be in the same category as Pyatt when it comes to hitting and making defenders pay the price (BTW, I really like Boyle and have always defended him, but his physical play is not one of his strong points).

All I'm saying is, take a look at the 4th lines of the remaining teams in the playoffs, and look at ours, and you'll see that we are way, way back in all aspects (scoring, speed-which creates turnovers, physically/momentumum changing). Having Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett as a 4th line isn't terrible, but please let's not say it's top 5 in the league!

I hope there's no crazy overhauls. That just never works out.

This will be key. The Rangers last season were a product of excellent chemistry, great goaltending, and frankly, great luck. The Rangers this year looked terrible to most of us for extended stretches yet they managed to get to the second round of the playoffs. Fix what's wrong, leave the rest alone, keep moving forward.

This season was a serious missed opportunity though. They managed to do what they did with Richards being literally useless, and Gaborik underperforming big time (even though he did turn fetch us two players who contributed big time). What this tells me is that the hype around this team at the beginning of the season was legitimate, if only the big boys came to play when it counted. Frustrating, for sure, but a reason to believe that another major overhaul is not necessary.

I dont really like that as a line either. And I never said it would be a top unit.

In fact earlier in this thread I said I would prefer to trade for Ryan Reaves to play on the 4th line. I prefer guys who can skate. And for that reason I dont really like Asham, either.

Though Asham does have a great shot.

But the Blues 4th line is exactly what I want. Good size, good skating, and like to impose pain

Now your talking! I really like that Blues 4th line!!

Our 4th line this year was a mix and match, with players coming in and out, and we never established an identity, like the team actually.

The Bruins 4th line is the ideal one, and in my opinion the best in the league. They can skate, hit, make plays and are not a detriment when playing 8-10 mins a game. On top of it, Paille and Campbell can kill penalties, wow!!

And you know this because? You act like he might not be frustrated and chose not to resign with the Rangers. I know if I was in his shoes I would be thinking differently.

Yes, you're frustrated about this team, so you leave it for one who hadn't made the PS in years, barely made it in by the hair on it's nuts this year, then got those nuts kicked into their throats by Chicago.

Yea, thats not going to be easy to replicate though.

The blues line is more possible, Id love a 4th line who was good enough to play against any line and not be dismantled.

Trade Staal to Carolina . Kid is cursed here in ny. Hank I said 2 yrs ago to the kings for deal around quick and Simmons and people here told me quick would never win . Guess you were wrong he won a cup and Simmons is a great power forward .. King is not going to win under torts ever .. Change coaches and there is a great chance .. Mdz to Edmonton makes sense

One or the other, I think. I can see one of Staal or MDZ getting traded but not both.

Staal to Carolina should land us a dman back like McBain...

i dont want Skinner in a deal for Staal. i wouldnt mind Ruutu and McBain... Rangers can use another pesky skilled forward...

Ruutu's contract

2013-14 $4,750,000
2014-15 $4,750,000
2015-16 $4,750,000

Really hope you meant Faulk. If McBain is the center piece for a Staal trade I would have to seriously re-evaluate if I want to be a fan of this franchise. That move would make me want to punt a box of kittens off the Empire State Building.

Edit: Should clarify that if you meant McBain as a secondary/tertiary piece of the trade, he's fine, but he CANNOT be the main piece

Rangers get Ruutu, McBain, Brock McGinn, 1st round to pick
Canes get Boyle and Staal.

Correct. I saw a proposal of Tlusty+McBain+1st. I would take that. I would take Skinner+McBain as well. McBain is better than Eminger. He'd make Steve E (Who I like, fwiw) a 7th dman again, as we'd run McD-Moore-MDZ down the left and Girardi-Stralman-McBain down the right.

I don't think the D works if we deal both MDZ and Staal.
