So we have what...?

Staal is better than MDZ. But he has vision problems, and Carolina being in the situation that they are, Sather might be in line to either get extra value/ be forced to trade him or else lose him for nothing.

For MDZ, you trade him, you'll miss him a lot less than Marc Staal. But what can you get for him? We've discussed Yakupov. Hall. I don't think he gets us there. I don't want to trade MDZ for some middling 15 goal winger, either.

MDZ definitely does not get Hall. Not sure how Edmonton feels about Yakupov. I'd trade MDZ+ for Yakupov. In the past few years young PMD have retured a lot of value.

I, as well, would be interested in MDZ+ for Yakupov. This team needs offense.

#1 picks are worth more than anyone on this roster.

Would be closer to Staal for Yakpuov.

Yakupov is going nowhere.

Only realistic trade with Edmonton is Del Zotto for Gagner. But the Rangers don't need another smallish, playmaking center.

Why exactly are people saying to trade Staal? How exactly is that a good idea?

I don't want to speak for others, but I believe it mostly has to do with his vision. Its a possibility that his vision will never be the same, causing him to never be the same player again. If that isn't an issue in training camp in September, then no way should we consider trading him. IMO you have to wait it out this summer and see how he does in camp.

Just to play along, if we were to deal him to Carolina, the return package I'd personally want is Ryan Murphy, Zac Dalpe, and a 1st round pick.

Del Zotto would be the one to trade IMO.

McDonagh
Staal
Moore

Down the left side is very good. Del Zotto isn't good on the right side.

Girardi
Stralman
McIlrath

Would be good on the right.

The only other thing I'd like is that real dynamic offensive defenseman. But if it isn't possible, so be it. Tortorella will have to start utilizing his defensemen on the attack more consistently. Those guys above can skate. Allow them to attack as well.

I'm rambling now, but back to Staal, they have to be patient and see how his vision is in camp.

IMO, these are some realistic players to target, scoring-wise:

Loui Eriksson (DAL), Bobby Ryan (ANA), Thomas Vanek (BUF), Teddy Purcell (TB), Chris Stewart (STL)

What about Paajarvi? Getting our hands on him before he breaks out could be a big get for this club.

I definitely wouldn't move Del Zotto for Paajarvi straight-up.

MPS+Gagner for DZ is something I would seriously consider, though, smallish centers be damned.

The 3 boldface are the ones I would be most interested in.

In order of preference:

Eriksson
Vanek/Ryan

I think that may be too steep of a return.

I was thinking Paajarvi, #37, and a project prospect. And use #37 to take the local kid Brett Pesce (wouldn't be a reach) dynamic offensive defenseman.

You have to at least put a call in. Does Edmonton needs an offensive defensmen? MDZ is young and he has the potential to be one.

Edmonton already has Schultz as their offensive dman. They aren't trading a player projected for greatness for a very inconsistent dman like MDZ.

MDZ alone wouldn't do it, I agree. Teams can have more than 1 offensive dman. All I'm saying is put a call in. At least you can get an idea of what it would take.

Magnus is pretty nice, I always had good feels about him when watching Edmonton. I'd think about this deal

What about a trade with Staal / J. Faulk (CAR) as the main pieces? a Righty offensive-defensemen would do a lot of this team, especially a young one. If not, McBain would 100% have to be in the deal.

Sad to see so many people ready to deal Del Zotto for a downgrade. Makes no sense at all.

I think a lot of us are still in the insta trade mode now after his series of crap and mental weakness regarding his weak play. Give it a while I think stuff will straighten out here and all. I just dont want DZ to turn into a mental midget sort of player

I agree.

Paajarvi and 37th pick is a horrendous offer. Gagner does nothing for this hockey club that it doesn't already have.

Eriksson is a perfect fit. I just refuse to think he's available. Does Del Zotto straight up get it done? Dallas' needs are up the middle and on D
