Curious, why do you think that? A defenseman that can put up 30-40 points should be worth a 25 goal, 60 point winger, no?

Eriksson, prior to this season, had recorded three straight 70 point seasons, and the season before that had 36 goals.

He is also an elite two-way player.

For Eriksson, we're talking Staal — not DZ. And I'd heavily consider making that move.

I'm not disagreeing, but you said it yourself...prior to this season. A Del Zotto-Eriksson swap makes sense since they've both had down years.

Staal may be closer value wise in a vacuum. From what I've gathered though (anyone, feel free to tell me I'm wrong), Del Zotto may fill a need better. Alex Goligoski has looked so bad at times that he's been a healthy scratch. Sather needs to sell DZ to Nieuwendyk as a good puck mover that can play top 4 minutes and be a Goligoski replacement.

Nieuwendyk was fired.

Jim Nill is now the GM of the Stars.

And Nill isn't falling for Sather's sell-job.

Could you imagine all the GMs thirsting for a painfully mediocre d man that can't hit the net like MDZ?

All your top prospects belong to us.

Well when did that happen? That one slipped by me.

Nill will be a tough sell, but he'll be looking to make changes. The Rangers win any trade involving them acquiring Eriksson with either Staal or DZ as the main pieces the other way. I'm just horrified to ship Staal out of town without going out to get a good defensive defenseman like Rob Scuderi to help round out our defensive corps.

Del Zotto has been getting a lot of hate the part few days here, and he does deserve it. What I saw in the Boston series was a young defenseman afraid to make mistakes. He had a 41 point season last year playing with confidence and swagger on the offensive and defensive end. If he gets his head out of his ass, he's easily a great middle pairing defenseman.

You're all fooling yourselves if you think there wouldn't be at least 15 GM's in this league calling for his services if Sather makes it known he's available.

Two reasons.
First +70 points 25-30 goal winger is more what he is. A proven one on a bad team. And while MDZ is no doubt good for 30-40 points, his obvious lack of defensive skill, makes him a 3rd pairing dman, 2nd at best. And that would be alright if he was capable of running a PP or had a lethal shot. But so far we have seen nothing of it.

I'm not saying he'll never become anything more, he is young and still developing. But as a comparison, would you trade away Callahan to get MDZ? And Loui is, imo, worth more.

If the Rangers could get Loui for MDZ plus something not crazy you make that move and don't look back. Him having an off year could lower his value enough to pull off a deal like that. Buy low.

Alright time to play NHL 2013 GM.

Buy out Richards.
Trade Staal for Tlusty, McBain, 5th overall pick.
Trade MDZ and Hagelin for Eriksson and Larsen.
Trade the 5th overall pick, 2014 1st, Fast, and either Larsen or McBain to Avs for 1st overall (probably will take Miller over Fast which I would do but lead with Fast).
Draft Jones.
Sign Streit.
Sign Zubrus and Boyes if can be had cheap to 1 year deals.

Eriksson - Stepan - Nash
Tlusty - Miller - Callahan
Kreider - Zubrus - Boyes
Asham - Boyle - Dorsett

McD - Jones
Streit - Girardi
McBain/Larsen - Stralman

Lundqvist
Biron

....puts rational hat back on...lol

I wouldn't really call Dallas a bad team. They got really unlucky with injuries this year too. I do agree with your assessment on Eriksson otherwise.

Agree to disagree on Del Zotto. I think he can be at least a manageable PPQB if he had someone to pass to that can shoot the puck. He's definitely a #4 right now, he just needs a steady stay at home D paired with him to cover his pinches. I would say he still has potential to be an excellent 2nd pairing guy, he's only 22 and can still improve.

Richards on the point was maddening for two reasons; he would have a shooting lane but would instead look to force a pass to the half boards that would end up being tipped or intercepted, and second, he has an absolute cannon of a slapshot that he simply refused to use with the exception of a couple of occasions.

Back to DZ, his passing and puck movement is good, but the end result would not always add up. As you can tell, I'm in the "it's not the players, it's the scheme" camp.

We've all heard that Burmistrov out of Winnepeg is being shopped. There's been all this talk of acquiring a right handed D with a big shot from the point. Would Zach Bogosian interest anyone?

A mega deal with Winnepeg with Burmistrov and Bogosian coming back around Del Zotto, and say, JT Miller and a B level prospect would be interesting. I think we'd have to add, but there might be enough of interest from both teams to at least start a discussion.

Today is Rangers breakup day. There will be a better idea where things stand injury wise with some players. Torts will talk. Exit interviews with the players. The Richards exit interview will be interesting. The Rangers should tell Richards about the compliance amnesty buyout. After they tell him and before he speaks to the media(if he speaks),put out a press release. Have Cerny tweet it on the NYR twitter account.

Forgets to include Brassard.

1) Get rid of Torts. I tried to stick by him for as long as I could but I'm done.

2) Get rid of Richards. I loved the signing originally. It amazes me how quickly his skills diminished.

3) Try to deal one or both of Staal/Del Zotto for some top end forwards. Maybe try revisiting Staal to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan, or someone of that ilk.

Yes ,yes and yes. Took the words out of my mouth. Feel like I'm reading a post of mine
