Trade Staal for 1st rounder (2013) and top 6 fwd prospect or a top 6 fwd or straight up for B Ryan

Trade Stralman for a 2nd rounder

Buy out Richards

Hope Kreider has a kick ass season

Fire Torts give Gernander his job,if not give Ruff a chance

Acquire (2 defenseman) a big nasty crease clearing d man and a PP quarter back.

Get rid of Asham and Pyatt.

Go after Clarkson

Boyle is a 4th liner and plays as a 4th liner

Problem is solved

Your suggestions above are creative but not well thought through in general.

Trade Staal? He is coming off two injury riddled seasons and it is unclear at this point in time how his eyesight will be affected going forward.

Trade Stralman? He has been an effective 2nd pairing guy for us on a reasonable contract. I'm not sure if this makes any sense right now.

Buyout Richards? That's probably an easy choice but we don't have a true #1C to replace him going forward so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in training camp in much better shape than last year.

Hope for Kreider? Tort's yo yo-ing of him looks to have been a good thing as he was clearly our best forward in the last 2 games. My gut instinct tells me he'll be just fine after a full training camp and he will develop into the goal scorer we so sorely lack.

Fire Torts/replacements? Torts is going no-where right now but in the event he gets dismissed sometime during next season, Ken Gernander is the last guy who should ever replace him and Lindy Ruff is also a lousy choice!

Get 2 defensemen? Hopefully, Dylan McIIrath will fill the first need; not sure about the 2nd one(pp quarterback) but I think if we get a pp coach, we can manage with what w have on the roster.

Dump Asham & Pyatt? Pyatt looked ok in the playoffs as did Asham so I'm not sure they couldn't be a plus if used on the 4th line going forward.

Clarkson? I like his boardwork but he won't be cost effective for us and he had a lousy finish to his season.

Boyle? I agree 100%; he would be terrific on the 4th line with Pyatt and Dorsett.

[QUOTEalieGuy;66625879]That is one of the worst trades for the Rangers I have seen in a long time.[/QUOTE]

It sure is!

Torts is not the guy for this organization. He is poor handling the personalities on the team. He could not fix the power play...all year. he changes lines to frequently not allowing players to develop chemistry. He is a ********. Sather also needs to go away. he is does not have a good grasp for talent. We need a Gm and coach who are on the same page. I think Staal is one hit away from retirement and we shouldn't expect much from him for the future. The team played tight all year. Some new management would do wonders for the organization.

Bulls-eye! Love it when a Rangers fan cuts right to the chase.

Del Zotto has been getting a lot of hate the part few days here, and he does deserve it. What I saw in the Boston series was a young defenseman afraid to make mistakes. He had a 41 point season last year playing with confidence and swagger on the offensive and defensive end. If he gets his head out of his ass, he's easily a great middle pairing defenseman.

You're all fooling yourselves if you think there wouldn't be at least 15 GM's in this league calling for his services if Sather makes it known he's available.

None of them would be Nill offering Loui Eriksson however. Or Edmoton offering Yapukov as suggested earlier by someone. Of course he has a value. But since he isn't elite offensively and below average defensively, I wouldn't expect anything to thrilling.

But as mentioned earlier, he sure has the potential. Problem is that he isn't developing as expected. If so, we wouldn't have this discussion. And that effects his value.

Your assessment of Stralman is pretty off in my opinion. Defensively solid TWD at points he was our best d-man these playoffs.

I like Stralman a lot but:

-he has a propensity to get beat to the outside often.
-he wasn't our best d-man by a longshot in the playoffs(McD was!)
-he's definitely a keeper though.

Stralman, Boyle, and Asham are no-brainers at a combined 4.3 million between them.

Dorsett is signed at 1.6 for the forseeable future. This, to me, means Pyatt is on his way out.

And
- he gets caught out of position.
- Needs to learn to take away the shot OR the pass on a 2-1.

Agreed, he is a keeper though.

Stralman is signed to a great contract and people want to trade him? Been advocating him for years. Check my post history on the main boards. Even created a thread asking what he would cost from C-bus. He is an outstanding 5th D. I think he can handle top 4 as well. He is better than DZ at this point. Getting a physical guy who can play 13-15 minutes as a 5 and PK would be great. IDK if Moore is ready for that. Having him compliment someone on that bottom pairing is ideal. McIlrath is not ready. Needs some time in the AHL. Still think trade DZ and getting another forward option would be best.

What kind of value does Pyatt have though? Same with Asham? Powe doesn't have very much.

I like Asham but if he blocks rookies he gotta go. Can you get a 6th or 7th for either?

Or would they trade the two along with a pick like a 4th and take back a better player with a worse contract (like a Dubinsky) plus a lower pick?

I'd trade Pyattt + B prospect + late pick for McBain.

For those who say it's not enough, Canes fans were selling McBain + 4th for Boyle + Eminger. I am going by that kind of value.

Sold. Although now that the Canes are in the same division with the Rangers because of this stupid realignment, that might change things.

would it be a a do-able thing to buyout richards and suggest that he stay available in 2014? (ie sign a 1-year deal elsewhere and listen to offers of pennies after that to play with tortorella/be a ranger)-- is it something that we're even allowed to do?

Staal for Burmistrov and Bogosian?

This is the first proposal I've seen with Staal that would actually be a good deal near and long term.

No way the Jets would touch that though I'd suspect. Burmistrov and Bogosian would be tremendous additions.

I don't see the Jets trading us Burmistrov/Bogosian. Ugh, it'd be awesome to have Bogo though...

Edit: Though I guess Burmi's value is lower because he's in the open with wanting out in the Peg.

I think we need to be realistic about what kind of changes this off season will bring. It's easy to say we need to trade this guy and dump that guy, but if often can't be done. I really think we can improve by using our internal assets. We will never be the Pens with their high-end talent but we can be the Bruins with perhaps the best 1-12 set of forwards in the league.

Torts is not going anywhere. The Gaborik trade showed that he wields tremendous power in the organization. Heck, Sather is a "Torts guy." Only a disasterously poor start will cost him his job.

What Sather need to tell him however is that he needs another assistant coach. The Rangers need to identity a bright, young, offensive-minded assistant coach and give him responsibility for the PP. We can't go through another season like this. There has got to be someone that Torts can work with.

Richards needs to be bought out. Period.

Commit to developing Kreider as an offensive winger. That means he must be put in a position where he can succeed. He can not be playing 3rd or 4th line with guys with little skill or skating ability. He must play with some of the teams best offensive talent full time.

Commit to developing JT Miller as a third line center. We needs his intensity and competitive drive. I think he can be developed with the big club w/o more time in the AHL.

Commit to becoming younger and faster. Give Lindberg and Fasth real, legit. chances to make the team out of training camp. Give Hrvik and Thomas solid looks also. To be the Bruins, we need to have more skill up and down the lineup.

Resign Zuke. He will always have deficiencies in his game (size, skating) but if we want to use his assets (creativity, play-making ability) we need to live with what he lacks. I have never been a big fan but he has gone a long way to convincing me he deserves to stay.

Do not resign Clowe. Yes, we need a Clowe-like player but here is another guy around 30 years of age who is already slowing down. What will he be like in 2 or 3 years? Do we want to replay Redden, Drury, Richards again? Most I would do is 2 years and 3 million per year. If he doesn't want that, let him walk.

Commit to pushing McI into the lineup. All of our D fit the modern NHL template of the all around Dman. We need a physical, creasing-clearing Dman (and I'm not talking about fighting here: the last thing I want is one of our regularly spending long stretches in the penalty box). We had that with Sauer. We tried a Sauer-lite with Bickel and although that worked for a brief period of time, Bickel simply doesn't have the skill to stick in the NHL long-term. We need McI badly.

There is a lot of dead wood here (Pyatt, Boyle, Asham, Haley) that can't be given positions just because they have been here or have NHL contracts. If these guys can't cut it, they need to be sent to the AHL.

If the Rangers are convinced Stall will be OK, explore the possibility of trading MDZ but do not give him away for a draft pick. Either you get a legit 2nd line winger for him or you keep him.

I'm kind of excited by the possibility of us becoming younger and faster. I don't know if there is anything we can do short term to elevate us to being a legit Cup contender. But we can be a competitive, middle of the playoff seed team easily capable of winning a round, and perhaps pulling an upset in the second round. Once you get to round 3, anything is possible. But we need to be realistic. Every year a team finishes with a disappointing elimination the first reaction is to say there will be drastic changes. But the cap severely limits what can and cannot be done. It is very possible that once all of our guys coming off of entry level contracts are resigned that, even if we jettison Richards, they will not be any money to sign anyone but perhaps a third liner for depth. I know we're all harboring the hope that Sather can pull off one of this trades and land a diamond in the rough. But that is unlikely. Not having a 1st or 2nd round pick puts a bummer of the draft and I don't see how we move up into the 1st round without surrendering something valuable. Once a decision is reached, hopefully quickly on BR, it might be a slow summer for Ranger news. Negotiations with our own guys may extend into late August or early September of even training camp. I'm not really expecting earth-shattering news. How many days to Traverse City?

About Tortorella, Del Zotto and Richards.

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/nyr130527.html

With one-year remaining on his contract, the New York Rangers aren't expected to relieve John Tortorella of his coaching duties this summer.

But according to Katie Strang of ESPNNewYork.com, Tortorella will be under the microscope next season. If the team fails to come out of the gate strong, it's possible the Rangers could make a mid-season coaching change.

As I guesses, yeah. Tortorella gets let go if things aren't going well next year.

"Fits."

I think they give Broadway Brad the one more year, as well.

I think he'll rebound strongly next season, but if he were to get injured, it would be a disaster.

Would I be deemed crazy if I say lets keep the same team and see what happens?
Hopefully a healthy Staal and Clowe, a rebound from Richards, a full season of Brassard/Zucc.
I don't think this team is as Torts ready as the 2011/12 team, but with a full training camp we should be better than this season. No point in harping about Torts since most things I've read on twitter said he's not being fired.

I would keep the majority of the same team and have just a few tweaks. like actually play Kreider, get rid of Sullivan, add another winger, and a triggerman. 2 Free agents/trades (winger, triggerman), a new pp coach and let Kreider play.

staal has very little value when he stated his eye is never going to be 100%. Serious injury is serious.

It depends on how he plays when he returns. If he returns to a dominant form, the eye will be an afterthought.

what i would try to do:

trade Staal+MDZ for pietro, trade Girardi+1st rounder next year for hamilton

pietro-hamilton
mcd-stralman
moore-mcilrath

however that is completely unlikely and more of a dream than an expectation.

more realistically speaking, i would resign clowe and go after bickell along with keeping the defense together. i would also buyout beaver.

kreider-step-nash
clowe-brass-zucc
hags-lindberg-cally
bickell-boyle-dorsett

mcd-girardi
moore-stralman
staal-dz

hank
biron

what will likely happen:

nash-richards-callahan
hags-step-clowe
zucc-boyle-brassard
asham-miller/lindberg/newbury-dorsett
extra:kreider

dz-girardi
mcd-stralman
