Even if the org was considering trading Staal (which I don't believe is the case for a second) his value is diminished right now due to injury.

how about Lee Stempniak from the Flames as a stop gap.. would add more skill to the bottom lines and let Boyle play the wing?? will be UFA after 2013-2014 season. im sure it wouldnt take much to get him...

Since discussion has moved here, I think Krug is far more than a great shot. He is quick, smart, and sees the ice.

I don't see the Jets trading us Burmistrov/Bogosian. Ugh, it'd be awesome to have Bogo though...

Edit: Though I guess Burmi's value is lower because he's in the open with wanting out in the Peg.

Yeah, Burmistrovs value isn't high. Sub-Turris and even sub-Hodgeson value. Winnipeg wouldn't give him away, but often you have to settle for a suspect for suspect type of deal.

I think Bogosian is decent. He is kind of in Stralman mold offensively, ie talented but doesn't quit get the job done. But he has potential.

Personally, and while timing might be questioned, Del Zotto are darn valuble pieces to trade. Burmistrov is nothing in that equation. Bogosian? Maybe. I think he would thrive 2-ways under Torts, but I am still not sold on his offense.

On Marc Staal, we are underrating just how good he is. It looks so easy for him to defend. He doesn't have all that many limitations in his game either. But he must be healthy.

Where is Marc Staal today if he has been healthy for the last 2.5 seasons? There are few limits...

Bogosian is a good D too though, and he definitely makes sense in terms of being a right D with a right shot.

Clowe said he loved being a Ranger. Hopes to return. Open to negotiating to find a way to stay. "We'll see what happens."

Tremendous news if we can keep Clowe AND he can stay healthy.

In a capped environment, you need your tough players to be tough and your skilled players to be skilled. You cannot fit 12 all around forward under a cap.

I just picture the thought of Staal getting back to form regardless of this injury, trading MDZ for a roster player and mid round pick, and drafting Ristolainen to play with Staal for the foreseeable future. Now that is a D Corp to enjoy watching.

Where are the Rangers acquiring this righty shot from? Who can QB the PP or has a big shot and can play in the top 4. Someone who doesn't have a crazy contract or requires a crazy contract or isn't near 40. McBain? Christian Thomas for McBain. Rutherford likes the Ontario boys. CHL. OHL. McBain isn't a top 4 D but he gives the Rangers more depth and is a righty. McBain is in the Carolina dog house every month.

How big is that kid for Boston? 5'8? You can play D in this league if you have skill. Especially on a team with room for you. We have that.

I'd hold out untill we can get someone who really go SKILL. We need the whole package, just not a shot. Kotalik had that shot. McCabe had that shot. Heck, Derek Morris has a good shot. It's not about the shot. We need SKILL.

Rundblad?

Would Carolina trade MDZ for Ryan Murphy. I am not telling you that it can be done, but I am very certain that Ryan Murphy is becoming a star, top 5-10 offensive D, in this league.

Whatever moves the Rangers might make in the off season will be based on the idea of winning soon.

The major thought has to be :

How many years can your best player perform at the top of his game and what are the odds the team will be able to pickup an able substitute?

Trade youth for age? No. Been there done that.

How many years can the team wait for projects to pan out? That's what the debate will be about.

So, just to summarize, here's what's been discussed so far:

Nail Yakupov: Would be fantastic to get him, but is most definitely a pipe dream.
Bobby Ryan: A good goal-scoring forward, but I'd be more interested in the next 2 options...
Tomas Vanek: Solid player, 41 points in 38 games this year. Plays LW.
Loui Eriksson: My favorite option; LW/RW who is young and can put up points.
Alexander Burmistrov: 2nd best option. Another young forward.

Of these players, who is really available?

Burmistrov would be my choice. Eriksson will cost a lot. Same as Ryan. Yakupov is a pipe dream. Vanek is a rental, no thanks.

I can't see the Rangers trading Del Zotto this offseason without knowing what condition Staal is going to be in at training camp. If Staal was healthy I think Del Zotto would 10000000% get traded this summer. Now I can't see the Rangers doing it.

I think the right thing to do is wait until next season to trade Del Zotto. Not because I'm a huge Del Zotto fan but because the depth on the Rangers defense is very thin. They can't afford to subtract from it right NOW.

you think MDZ+ could be traded for Burm and big buff? i think burm can help the center position out and wing.. and buff well we all know what he brings.. toughness from the back end and a PP dman.. with that crazy hard shot he has..

I would like Eberle here as well.. guy is a goal scorer and he has a sick one timmer.. they need help on D and MDZ could help them

The + would have to be pretty significant.

I have heard Matt Hendricks from multiple sources but the player who would fit VERY well in their system is Eric Nystrom. He is the perfect 4th liner in the same mold as Gregory Campbell who just helped down the Rangers. Great skater. Great PKer. Will fight. Has some offense in him. Can play center.

Curtis Glencross is another name we all heard around the deadline. Another player who would fit the Ranger 'mold'. Not sure what it would cost.

Eriksson would be the ideal target as he is the most sure fire top6 LWer. He would push either Kreider or Hagelin down.

MDZ to Dallas for Eriksson.

Buyout Richards.

Trade Pyatt and Powe.

Sign Nystrom and Murray. The team is now 4 lines deep.

Eriksson-Brassard-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Lindberg/Miller-Dorsett
Nystrom-Boyle-Asham/Haley

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-Murray
Eminger

If Staal does not want to re-sign this off-season, trade him instead of MDZ.

Staal for McBain and Skinner or Staal for Ryan. Skinner or Ryan replace Eriksson above. Maybe Dallas adds to Eriksson for Staal as well.

A dman needs to be moved, they need offense.

Where is Zuke?
I am actually going through some scenarios and I also have problems fitting Zuke in. Even worse, I can't fit Hagelin either :madfire:

I have problems with MZA because he isn't quite a top 6 forward and this teams bottom-6 with a rookie 3rd or 4th line center and the need to supplement toughness and grit due to the soft nature of the top-6.

Kreider's done absolutely nothing to warrant a top 6 roster spot, let alone take one away from Zuccarello, one of the most consistent forward for the team since his arrival.

Ok. So what about Hagelin? Switch those 2. I had it my way because I wouldn't put Kreider with a rookie center. Hagelin is the better defensive forward. Kreider adds size and speed.

Put Hags on the third line, with Callahan (if the Rangers acquire a winger, something I expect to happen) and Boyle/Lindberg/Miller/Acquisition. Great third line right there. Keep both Zuccs and Kreider in the top-6.

I don't see why Zuccarello is getting the boot when he was a top 3 forward down the stretch for the team. Size be damned, he can play the game of hockey at a high level. I don't care much for Kreider's size/speed if he doesn't do anything with the puck. I'd much rather see a slow skating smurf like Zuccarello if he can constantly create scoring chances.

Kreider-Lindberg-Miller, three rookie players are shaping up to be a disaster line. A big reason why the Rangers were so ineffective earlier in the season was because they were relying too much on Miller to fulfill the 3C, and he kept failing and failing. Relying on 3 rookies altogether in a line and provide secondary scoring production is a too much to ask for.
