Bobby Ryan would look great in that slot :D

I have no idea what the hell happened to Bobby Ryan. In 2009-10 he was a budding elite player as he had the most effective shot differential on the ice for the Ducks. The Ducks players' shot differentials went up substantially with Ryan on the ice that year. The next season, his 60 ESPs were 4th in the NHL and didn't receive sufficient PP time due to Selanne, the GOAT PP winger, sans Jagr being on there. Then his game took a steep decline last year and even worse this season.

Speaking of Ryan, didn't he called out for a trade during the trade deadline last year?

Any reports if he still wants out or has he changed his mind perhaps? Obviously I'd all for him.

He's not an elite player. He is a first line winger in the mold of Horton, maybe a little better.

He's got great hands, a good shot, and size, but honestly, he lacks IQ and doesn't use his size very much. Not a great passer, either.

Still, he's a very, very solid player, one who would be a perfect linemate for Brassard.

He also is pretty one dimensional offensively. He gets a lot of his goals streaking to the net.

He had all the making of an elite caliber player after his 10-11 season and then just took a steep decline in possession numbers and production numbers point wise. I am very weary of adding him at the Ducks' asking price. And the Ducks fans are saying IIRC are looking for a 2C anyways, which we can't really part with.

Ducks fans seemed to be pretty welcome to a Staal for Ryan deal.

They need another legit, big top-4 D or a 2nd line C. Staal is the latter.

Even if we can't get Ryan, there are options out there. Eriksson is apparently going to be shopped. He'd be a great fit.

I'd like Eriksson as well although I am a Bobby Ryan fan and wanted him since rumors first popped up last november.

This isn't the offseason to have money burning a hole in your pocket. There are no elite players in free agency. I'd rather not waste money and commit to players who aren't worth it. I'd keep my wallet ready in the event Malkin makes it to free agency in the summer of 2014. I don't know that you can realistically expect to find an elite player in a trade either but I do think Slats should be looking to make trades in order to improve the talent on this team.

Forwards: I'd keep Stepan, Brassard, Nash, Cally and Kreider. I wouldn't mind keeping Hagelin and Boyle but if they need to get moved in order to improve the team, no problem.

Defense: I keep McD and although I think we'd have a fine D with Girardi, Staal, Stralman, DZ and Moore, I would include any one of them in the right deal...and as much as I love Staal, the injuries scare me. This team needs an elite offensive Dman and I don't think I'm exagerrating when I say we needed one since we traded Zubov!

I think the Rangers need to find young players who can blossom. This team needs talent and we can't afford to pay thru the nose on long contracts for it...especially if Lundqvist will want top dollar after next season.

Oh yeah...and fire Torts!

He is much better than Horton IMO, even if you just look at the goal totals. Also, keep in mind with Ryan that some power forwards really bloom later in their career. He might still have another level he can get to if he can figure out how to be a little more effective with his size like you mentioned. Also, I am not sure what you mean by "lacks IQ", I think he finds places to score from very effectively. Did you mean defensively or just his playmaking ability? All in all he is a finisher, this team needs more finishers.

Ryan doesn't really play like a power forward.

Ryan Murphy - Carolina
Morgan Rielly - Toronto
Ryan Sproul - Detroit
Cody Ceci - Ottawa
Adam Clendening - Chicago
Mathew Dumba - Minnesota

One of these guys would be the ideal addition this summer. This team has sorely lacked and needed a puck carrying, tempo controlling, creative, dynamic, fast, offensive defenseman since post-trade deadline 2004 after the Leetch trade.

Our inability to gain control of the puck, transition, skate the puck through the neutral zone, acquire the offensive zone, set up and create, consistently, has absolutely killed this team for years on end. Has been a major crux to the power play.

Someone young and contractually controllable, that can grow with the core of the team.

Loui Eriksson the Dallas center man? Yes please.

He's a winger.

He's an amazing player, either way. Would give us a different look in the top-9. Perhaps:

Eriksson-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Brassard-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Boyle-Callahan

Or flip flop Eriksson/Kreider.

Eriksson id love to have but NYR would have to give up a good amount..

Whoops. Thought he was at center. Even better that he's a winger though, and a left one at that.

It's been a small sample size. Not sure if he was really 100% either.

He had some very good playoff games, could have easily had a few goals. I think he'll look a lot better when he gets settled in.

CBJ fans said he didn't look like himself this series.

He plays either wing, but I believe he's a natural LW.

He and Stepan would be the best two-way duo in the league.

That would be an excellent pairing indeed.

I kind of wish Callahan's numbers stay low. I'd love to be able to keep him in his later years as a third line energy guy, but not have to pay him with a huge salary.

If Sullivan doesn't get fired, then I'm going to go **** myself,

Keep torts, but fire Sullivan. The PP was our biggest weakness this year.

Agreed. Sullivan's time has come and gone. His inability to formulate successful power play tactics has been a substantial issue, putting it mildly.

Why he has been allowed to continue to run the power play is a mystery. Tortorella as head coach should have intervened a long time ago. The situation is a mess that needs to be rectified this summer. If Sullivan wants to stick around to coach the defense and penalty kill thats fine. He has been successful in that regard. But a new power play coach needs to be brought in.

Sullivan is a big reason why our young D have been able to slide into the lineup so easily.

I'd definitely keep him as an assistant. Hire one more. Hire a new head. Then we're good.

I've said it a million times: The Rangers need a triggerman from the points. They get a guy who can effectively shoot bombs from the point, that will completely change their PP.
