Still a high risk to injury. Getting hit with puck in the eye is serious. Look at Pronger, his career is done. He also had strings of concussions before and after the stick to the eye.

Puck to face is a freak accident. Strings of concussions? No.

Puck to the eye is freak accident, but very serious nonetheless. He has only laced up in one game since. He is a player who is looks to be very prone to injury in the future.

This is a shortened season. Today's game would be #60. The fact that he's only played 1 game since the injury doesn't bother me. Let's not make it out to be like he's been out for a year.

1. I like Torts.

2. I was always against signing the Beaver. Didn't think he'd collapse that quickly, but I knew we'd see this sooner or later. That said, I think with better conditioning, he can be a good second liner next year.

3. Either Miller or Lindberg will be a quality bottom-6 center next year. This will make Boyle expendable. Trade Boyle+Pyatt for a good third line winger.

4. Clowe is a judgment call, depending on money and years. Would prefer to keep him.

5. Defense is fine, assuming we keep our top-7. Give an NHL contract to Sam Klassen as an emergency call up. McIlrath may join the team later in the season if he shows progress in his short step skating.

6. If we keep Clowe and Beaver, the team will have significantly more depth with the addition of MZA, Kreider, Miller/Lindberg and likely one of Fast/Thomas/Hrivik. The lack of depth was the main issue for this team this year.

7. A power play slap shot is missing, but lets see if Thomas can crack the team at some point. He has the best slap shot in the system, both at the NHL and farm level. If he he wont make it, then we can acquire someone in February.

8. The Gabby trade is huge for the future. Really set us up nicely. Had we just let him walk after next year, we would have gaping holes with no way to fix them.

9. We need to crap or get off the pot at some point. Lundqvist is already 31. Our window is the next 5 years. I actually feel that our window extended several years because of the Gabby trade, since losing him for nothing wouldve meant a couple more years of offensive struggles, as Hank aged. Either way, we need to consider making some tough choices in trading away top youth to rent star vets to win the Cup.

Are u worried about the D? I mean isn't girardi the oldest at still under 30. Mcd, staal? Dz, Moore are young and as u mention mcilrath is in the system. They could just sign a vet to add to the D

The Rangers need depth on D. Hamrlik and Eminger are playing as the 3rd pair with Staal and Stralman out.

Don't add major pieces. Keep what we have. Buyout Richards if you must. Lindberg/Miller will fill in on the 3rd or 4th line. Add a 4th line C for insurance if you must. Give Fasth/Hrivik/Thomas a chance out of training camp. I'm not sold on Thomas but from what I heard he looked decent in the one game he played this year and shot a lot (which we need). Hrivik will probably slot in on the 3rd line IF he can stay healthy. Good two way player.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-Kreider/Hrivik
(This line is risk/reward if Kreider is slotted in here)
Callahan-Lindberg-Kreider/Hrivik
Asham-Boyle-Dorsett
Fasth-Miller-Thomas/Pyatt
can slot in pretty much anywhere depending on how training camp goes and/or injuries.

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
Stralman-Moore
McIlrath-Eminger
for injuries.

I want this look on the PP
Moore
Zuccarello Brassard
Stepan Callahan

(You can switch Moore and Zuccarello if you must.)

Del Zotto McDonagh
Nash Lindberg/Hrivik/Thomas (If he makes the team)
Boyle (parked in front and fishing pucks down low)

Stick Kreider in the high slot if Lindberg/Hrivik/Thomas don't work out. Maybe Fasth if he makes the team, but I think he will need half a year in the AHL much like Hagelin.

Re-evaluate where we are half way through the year. I don't think Torts is the coach for a team like this, and would like to see him gone, but might as well give him half the year and see if he can adjust with all the youth and skill on this roster.

im not sure we can complain about that though. I mean they have McD, Girardi, Staal, DZ, Moore,Stralman, thats a good 6 when healthy.......Eminger is not a terrible spare, they got Hamrlik on waivers, gave Gilroy another shot, had Bickel too, thats 10 Dmen, then McIlrath and a few guys in CT have played some NHL games, Vernance, Pyett, Collins...........they drafted Skjei with their first rounder last yr.........aaaand Sauer who would be a top 6 if healthy.

Injuries happen but thats not terrible D depth. I rather use assets for a scoring F

This team is not that off. Here would be the lines if everyone and Clowe would be resigned and Richards would be bought out.

Nash-Stepan-Kreider
Clowe-Brassard-Zuc
Hagelin - xxxxxx - Callahan
Pyatt - Boyle - Dorsett

Extras: Powe, Asham

McD - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Moore - MDZ

It's not a team that is so far off. That 3rd line center spot has to be filled, whether it is Matt Cullen, Manny Malhotra, or someone from within like Miller or Lindberg, that spot will be crucial to determine how far this team gets next year.

I'm a glass half full guy. They were first in the east last yr, this was not a full yr. u just march out the same coach and similar team after a full camp. Richards but out and sign Weiss that's about it. Bring clowe back too

No thanks on Weiss.

Fire Sather. Nothing can go forward until we start at the top. It's time.

Absolutely! It has to start at the top because Sather has been here 13 years(as of july) and he has had 8 years to build a legit team in front of a franchise goalie and he has failed.
Posters around here except for a select few keep giving this senile old fool a pass when in fact, he should have been gone before the first lockout. My rule of thumb is a GM gets 5 years and 3 coaches and if nothing happens progress wise, that GM needs to be fired.

As far as Tortorella goes, he is the 1st legit coach we've had here in almost 20 years since "Psycho Mike" roamed the sidelines for that one championship season that we've had in 73 years. Keenan gets a mulligan for coaching us to that Stanley Cup even though he was engineering his exit from the team as early as january, '94 and he created a near mutiny when he benched our best player Brian Leetch in the Devils series.

Tortorella like him or not is the one coach we've had here who has exercised accountability with the roster during his time here.

The roster itself? It's still pockmarked with small, finese players on offense and defense and we have little to no depth when compared to the better teams thruout the league.
Tort's has worked wonders with a seriously flawed roster that overachieved last year and is down 3-1 to a much bigger, better and deeper Bruins team.

Nice post but I think our window of opportunity is more like 3 years, not 5!

Would a deal centering around Del Zotto for Yandle interest you guys? There is a chance Maloney could like a few of the Rangers prospects and a Del Zotto who is cheaper and younger. We need someone who can shoot from the point on our power play. This would only work if we amnesty Richards. Just something I was thinking about.

1- With messier, leetch, graves and other greats within the organization, can we please get someone to coach a better PP..

2- Torts only issue is hes got to stop allowing the fwds to collapse so low in the defensive zone.. we make other teams defense look like perennial all-stars.. they score way to many goals against us...

3- buyout richards.. ive seen enough and all said and done hes gone regardless if he bounces back or not.. Allow Miller and Lindberg to battle for 3c..

4-Sign Clowe (if reasonable), If MZA doesn't come back and Clowe doesn't sign, go after Horton and Torres...

5- Keep Status quo if this off-season and wait till 14' FA class. much better with great talent.. Kessel, pavelski, Stasny, Malkin (i know, i know) Phaneof ( bc we need a beast on the backend)

6- we actually need a 3rd pairing dman still.. someone whos nasty (hopefully McIrath/Sauer is ready)..

I go into next year like this...

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Brassard-MZA/Horton
Haglin-Miller/X-Callahan
Haley-Boyle-Dorsett

2 of Asham, Powe, Pyatt stays..

Mcd-Girardi
Staal-MDZ
Moore-McIrath

Eminger, Stralman

any team giving Bickel 3.5 or better per season would regret it within 2-3 months of the season.

Yes, he is big, his skating is being overrated here and overall physicality is also being a bit overstated as well.

slightly better offensively than Brian Boyle, but about on par in the physicality dept.

Would be a HUGE mistake any anything over 2 per

Congrats on your first thread.

It deserves more than I have time to post except as for a minimum commentary. Will try to add over the next 2 wks

As and for overview:
1. No on Torts.
The system he used in TB is apparently different from the one here, which is a losing system, one taking too much physically out of players, more prone to out of position, and injury. We have a big burden vs us because we come into the playoffs tired, we can't finish quick, and are quickly exhausted. No wonder we don't get to finals.

2, Beginning IMMEDIATELY, now this playoffs, give Kreider extra shifts, some at W w/Brassard + Nash, but also as a C with Hagelin + Callahan. I realize there is an argument that his speed is better exploited from W, but my counter is his setup is apparently better than initially realized, and his speed is explosive enough he can often catch up into the play. That is the ONLY hope, w/Hank mastery, of wining this year.

After, we need to not be afraid to trade vets for younger guys, which we need to do anyways because of the cap.
I wanted to trade Girardi over a year ago, when it was top $$, and was vehemently denounced. Of course, once again I was proven correct, in that as a skillful righty D Danny boy remains in demand, but obviously nowhere near what he would have commanded before.

We have a lot of horses, but we need to add more.
We need to develop a powerful offense, even at partial cost to defense, and get time of possession more in our opponents end.

That's it for starters.

Don't think the team needs to do too much. Trading MDZ I'm all for. Maybe a player or two for the 4th line. Big thing they need to do is LET THE KIDS PLAY. Full pre-season and then a full complement of games, they should have a good read on the prospects, and then at the trade deadline moves can be made.

I'm a glass half full guy. They were first in the east last yr, this was not a full yr. u just march out the same coach and similar team after a full camp. Richards but out and sign Weiss that's about it. Bring clowe back too

I'm on board with that if they are willing to bring up a couple of kids and live with their mistakes. Let them play and live with the positives and negatives. And trade MDZ. He may turn out t o be a great player, but not here. He's got to go.

Get a real first line center.
Brassard and Stephan are 2/3s, not consistent enough to be a sure fire 2 let alone a 1.

Get another defenseman, very little depth again.
If Staal and Saur never got hurt, this d would be set aside from needing a PP specialist as the 6th.

Solution!

Fire torts! He´s "grit and speed" will beat anyone doesn´t work. He´s yelling on players that are already with their heads down doesn´t work (Hagelin sucks in PP).

Bring in guys with skills...not just grit and speed!

Also....BETTER scouting! Richards was good because he played with AWSOME players! So goes for Drury....HORRIBLE players on their own...they need AWSOME player around them in order to be good.
