You know, for the hell of it, add Brett Bellemore to the D list.

Only played 8 games for the Canes this year, but I was impressed with him while he was up. He'll only be 25 next year, is a right shot, and is a mean SoB.

This team needs that type of player/personality

someone that is intent on getting after the game. To many passive players, we need guys that are going to initiate contact, dictate pace and tempo. Guys that set the tone.

Torres does that.

Yup I wouldn't mind Torres.

I think Horton is very overrated. He disappears for long stretches of time. Bruins fans will tell you that.

Torres would be a great addition. Too bad the NHL has decided to suspend him for every hit he throws.

Once more w/feeling:
McD + MDZ for 1st overall (=McKinnon) + Duncan Siemens

I see we are giving up McD. The sky will not fall. Siemens could be another Dougie Hamilton, partnered with McIlrath is bone crushing.

And the likelihood of otherwise getting a prospect of McKinnon's potential is very small.
The MDZ question is solved.!

McD isn't going anywhere. He's the future.

Had no idea Filpulla was a UFA this offseason. I want him. Think he re-ups with Detroit though.

Tyler Bozak is interesting. If the money is equal, however, I'd prefer Weiss.

In a perfect world, we could flip Del Zotto for a younger center (or winger) and a depth defenseman. Still think that Edmonton is a fit. We may not be able to pry one of the higher-touted players away, but I think Paajarvi (who I feel will break out soon), Petry, and #37 would be a good return.

Sign one of Bozak or Weiss (depending on terms).

Just for visual:

Hagelin - Weiss - Nash
Kreider - Stepan - Callahan
Paajarvi - Brassard - Zuccarello
Miller - Boyle - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Moore - Petry

Not bad depth.

He had a bad year this year .... could be a mistake or a major home run if he has a bounce back year ... total gamble.

Imagine Ryder and Filppula signing at reasonable contracts. Just dirty. Probably add Torres in there, and we're set.

Nash-Stepan-Ryder
Kreider-Brassard-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Filppula-Callahan
Torres-Boyle-Dorsett

Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-Stralman
Moore-Del Zotto

Miller and Boyle on the same line would keep us in our own zone for entire periods.

I wouldn't touch Bozak with a 10 foot pole. He'll get massively overpaid.

Bozak would be a catastrophic signing. He's going to get paid big time.

Interesting on Filpulla. With the cap coming down, it isn't very wise to give anymore more than a 2 or 3 year deal this offseason. If he hits UFA, he'll want longer term. It's Detroit or a small market team like Phoenix that will pay, IMO.

Any interest in Pascal Dupuis? For some reason the guy is always in the mix with big goals.

He needs quality centers to play with. See: Dupuis in NY, Atlanta, Minnesota. Yes, he had a 20 goal season in Minny but he was being spoonfed quality minutes as the 2nd best forward on a new expansion team.

to be totally honest, if I'm the Rangers GM....i stay out of free agency this year. absolutely nothing really appealing that can't be found from within.

bring back the same team...make your decisions on Clowe and Richards, and go to war with what we have.

Phoenix can barely pay their own players.

Dupuis success being credited to Crosby? I smell Kershaw typing up an essay about how he's better than Callahan

I'm inclined to agree for the most part. If you can buy low on a UFA that can fill a hole, you do it though.

They won't have trouble if the sale is held up and the NHL continues to run the team, but that's aside from the point I'm trying to make.

We need a Ryder or Horton to push Callahan to the 3rd line where he belongs. And so we can actually score for once. Hagelin is a 2nd/3rd line tweener, and Callahan is not a top line player like Torts has played him.

See how much Horton wants and if it's reasonable sign him.
Otherwise, Stafford wants out of buffalo, a change of scenery would do him a world of good. He shouldn't cost much.
Slot either one of them on the 2nd line and move Callahan to the 3rd line.
I also like the idea of Nystrom on the 4th line.
I like the look of this line up.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Brass-Stafford/Horton
Hagelin-Lindberg-Callahan
Nystrom-Boyle-Dorsett
