No interest at all in a deal involving Grabovsky ... IMO, a higher paid, slightly more skilled version of Derick Brassard, known for taking shifts and entire games off. To be honest, I wouldn't even have that much interest in Jake Gardiner, because we would have to overpay for him - and we have at least 572 guys competing for spots on our defense next year.

Okay, maybe only 571...

John Davidson in the box here in Pittsburgh. Short drive from Columbus to see his old Rangers face the Penguins.

Looks like we are in some discussions with the Pens, the question is about who? Still can't see it being JJ, maybe Tyutin?

Why does it have to be D? They have the best D prospect pool in NHL. If they were to trade for one, they would be looking for stopgaps.

I think they want wingers now.. Foligno and Dubi would fit there but I don't want to move them. Maybe R.J, but Pens have better options.

We will be division rivals also starting next year.. that will limit some trading.

I'm not seeing "trade" there. It's JD, not JK. More likely it's a chance to see two of our future division opponents and thus get a handle for what the team should be prepared to handle.

Depends on how big a role you perceive JD to have. Is he the highest man on the totem poll in all aspects like an NFL president (think Holmgren for Browns last few years) or is he something else?

His role is probably as big as he wants it to be.

I believe he reports to Mr. McConnell.

Well there were the reports that JK was watching some Pens game a few weeks ago.

But the man himself stated that he was just hanging out with he's old buddy Shero.

how has Brassard looked playing wing? is he better suited at LW or RW? do you think adopting the role of a playmaking winger along with lessened defensive responsibilities would improve his overall game?

We tried it and saw no improvement in his game, in fact I would say he was worse on the wing than at center.

Yeah...

Remember when Holmgren told Jeff Carter and the media that he absolutely wasn't trading him. About those sort of things...

As of right now, we have every reason to believe Jarmo and what he says. But it's not like he's going to come out and say "Yeah, we were talking to them about trading away..."

Seriously, be realistic. Anything is possible. It's very possible that it was just a friendly visit. But it's also very possible that something is in the works. We just don't know.

Should the CBJ sweep Nashville next week and climb into serious playoff contention, will Jarmo trade for a goal scorer? (not a rental, a long term contributor)

I wouldn't. In fact, I would still want us to trade players who we don't think are part of our future. It is going to be a sellers market with all of the teams who are still in it.

At this point I think that this is going to be the only trade we will see. If we are in a playoff position at the deadline I think we will package assets to add a scorer to the "core". Possibly something like Tyutin for Matt Read+.

We need a top line scorer, so maybe, but it'll be much easier (i.e. lower price) to get a long term contributor in the summer, especially with the cap coming down. I bet that is when Jarmo will do his shopping.

Read's a valuable guy, but he's like a lot of versatile guys we have, not really giving us the top line goal scorer we need. But if Philly wants Tyutin enough (And they should! All that talent wasted playing in front of Philly's defense!), then we might get more...

I think we're either selling, or staying pat. No sense in breaking up the chemistry this team has built ...not to mention we would just have to trade away future assets.

True, but the problem with any Philly Deal is the lack of "available" guys. Giroux, Brayden Schenn, Couturier, Simmonds and ironically Jake are all "untouchables", while any other player other than possibly Read isn't someone that fills a need. (Don't even bring up Briere).

I agree that I don't think we'll see any sort of "rental" trade. I can see one of the rare "hockey trades" such as the Methot for Foligno deal or movement of a package to get a piece that management believes will can help long term. (Something like Brassard+Nikitin for a Paul Stastny or a scoring winger like Pominville)

The thing I wonder about with acquiring a guy like Stastny is would our ownership mind picking up the tab for a guy like that? Because ignoring salary for a moment, that deal might work out great for us. (Although I suspect Colorado would look for a different package: they have little interest in another center and would want Tyutin).

We aren't going to be a cap team in the next couple years, so the only question is how much is our ownership willing to pay to take a chance on a player? I think in the past they've been remarkably flexible for a team with our revenue.

Do you think we should have interest in any of this summer's bought-out free agents? I haven't done a full inventory, but just looking at Minnesota and the Rangers' cap situations you can tell Heatley is getting bought out as well as Brad Richards unless there is a huge salary dump trade. I'd say no to Heatley, probably no to Richards... who else might be available?

In all honesty, I think the Rangers trade Gabby regardless, and if this season gets any further out of hand they may move MDZ as well. I think Richards gets bought out as you said. With that much cap room I think the Rangers after a disappointing year become major players for Perry. They have more than enough real $ to throw around and are one of the few franchises who like the wings doesn't rebuild they just reload.

And on a side not if my doomsday prediction does happen all the TV revenue in the world isn't gonna help against our new division's top guys...

NYR: Nash+ Perry
Pitt: Crosby + Malkin
Carolina: The Staals
Philly: Giroux
Islanders: Tavares
NJ: Kovalchuk
Wash: Ovi + Backstorm:sarcasm:

Yes, I know that. I didn't say that there isn't a trade coming between them or I know what JK is up to or whatever, just posted what JK had said ( He actually said ''It's silly. I don't usually repond to this kind of stuff, but this is just silly. I went to watch a game. (Pens GM) Ray Shero is a friend of mine.").

Wanted to update with Jackets top 2- but couldn't figure out who they are

While we need a top scorer or two, I don't see one becoming available at the deadline. If one does it probably will be a UFA who may not be part of the long term or an aging veteran who once again won't be part of the LT. If we are close I think we dance with who brung us .

Agree, Doubt there's a ton of interest for the pending UFA's, which I believe are Aucoin and DMac only (and I guess Prospal if you want to include him given the up in the air status of his Gentlemen's Agreement with the previous regime). With the forward corps pretty much almost entirely being 30 or under (with the exception of DMac and Prospal), Unless they move a LTC Defenseman (JJ, Tyutin, Wiz) the only thing we have to give up is future, or current/future assets.
