I think Drew Stafford could regain his mojo here. I don't think the CBJ would be willing to pay what it would take to get him.

If Buffalo blows it up I would take a real hard look at Pominville and/or Tyler Myers (Though any Myers deal would probably require Buffalo keeps some salary, kid needs a change of scenery badly)

If somehow a teamm like Philly gets it together, I have to believe they give more than a 7th. Maybe a 3rd or possibly a 2nd if they are truly desperate.

a second round pick for a soon to be retired 39 year old 6th Defensman who can barely stay on the ice? You're joking right?

To give you some context, a 30 year old, under contract 2nd line center in Antoine Vermette fetched a second rounder and a conditional pick last year.

I'd take any pick that sends him packing at this point. He's useless, we have future young dmen that deserve the playing time. Both for ours and their benefit.

Obligatory reminder post that Aucoin has a no-movement clause.

So, his trade value depends on how big his list of acceptable teams are. It may be that the list is 'none' and he is content to ride it out and see where the CBJ run this year leads to.

I'm afraid that trading Brassard may send him the same route that we're seeing with Jakub Voracek ... and he becomes a legit top-6 forward. For that reason, I wouldn't trade him just to do it, as he's one of the few natural offensive forwards on this team. Someone has to act as a fill-gap until the talented forwards we're about to draft are actually ready to step in.

I'm not fully against trading him, but seller beware ...

I think he might do better somewhere else, but I don't think he would improve as much as Voracek. Voracek had a ton of talent, but needed to be on a team that would push him and get the most out of him. I just don't think Brassard is that good. He is good, and would put up more points with more skill around him, but I don't think he is as good as Voracek.

Jake was never going to be the player we're seeing now in our system. He needed the discipline, structure and pressure to perform the Flyers system provided him. More than anything though, he needed the wake-up call.

If Brass can't score on the wing, the CBJ have a glut of centers, especially if Jenner turns out to be NHL worthy.

Agree, I doubt the Sabres would trade either but anything is possible... The Sabres are in complete disarray, I can see them being sellers at the deadline, they need defense badly... not to mention a new HC and GM.

Apologies if this has been asked/answered already...I simply haven't had time to catch up on the entire thread.

One alternative to trading for some offensive talent and mortgaging our future (which we all know JD and JK won't be doing) is to sign a college player. Are there any high end offensive collegiate free agents available right now? I know the price for trading for high end offensive talent at the deadline will be too high so this could be an alternative that would allow us to retain our current lineup, not trade any players (that were not already looking to move) and draft picks. Seems like a suitable option to me.

Are there any college free agents with offensive ability that we would be interested in?

If you are a free agent with any skill at all I would actually think that the CBJ could be on your list. A lot of upside on this team with the front office we have in place now as well as having a young and hungry hockey team. In the past free agents might not have given us a sniff (Tyler Bozak comes to mind), but I think the tide has turned.

The "collegiate class" this year isn't as good as it's been in years' past, but there are a few guys. To put that into perspective, three of the guys I would consider top-5 in the country probably project as third liners at best. There is no Justin Schultz-type player this year, and even the guys that are available this year would probably have Columbus way towards the bottom of their lists.

In essence, don't get our hopes up!

If the CBJ are still competing in early April, its necessary to keep Aucoin. They will need the depth at defense.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the youngsters in Springfield haven't looked a bit out of place during their callups.

I agree.

As has been mentioned several times before on the one hand that is excellent; on the other are they that good or are the others just not as good as some think?

I think the answer suggests that we have a lot of interchangeable parts and that no one should be considered untouchable, although there are a few I would rate as close to.

You don't have to mortgage the long term to add a piece or two at the deadline. It is possible to make trades that don't include prospects or picks. When we traded Klesla for Upshall, we got out of a long term deal for a guy who could help the team now who we wouldn't be tied to long term.

Chances are, as AP as said, JD and his Finnish henchman have evaluated the team, and now know who they view as long term "bricks" and who they don't. We also know that no one is safe, this regime isn't tied to certain players, and they may want to move long term-contracts they don't want to be tied to for future flexibility.

RJ, Jack, Brassard, Tyutin - A contending team who spends to the cap could have interest in these types of guys. We'd have to obviously take money back, but we could take a guy back who could still help now but who has a shorter contract along with a pick or prospect.

Let's say the Flyers want Umberger or Tyutin. We could take back a contract like Meszaros to make the money work if they threw in a prospect, young player, or pick the regime thought would help the building process. Wouldn't be "mortgaging the future" but would still be a type of trade that works for the now and adds for the later.

Keep in mind that next year the cap goes down 10% meaning every budget gets tighter. Moving the pieces you suggested (aside from Brass who's contract runs out next year) will require taking on a bad contract. What's the point of trading dollars for dollars?

Also, I don't see JJ in that equation as a piece to get moved. That's the best contract of the bunch and he seems to be a part of the solution in Columbus.

I get what you are saying and agree in principle. It will be interesting to see. The problem for me is that we don't have a lot of "under performing assets" right now. RJ, Brass and Toots have all improved their play to where they aren't viewed, by me, as negatives. We need to upgrade the offense and move some players to do that but I think that's going to be difficult at the deadline. Maybe not....

Yes. As I have said I love Jack and don't understand why he isn't wearing a C and don't think he should go anywhere.

That said, when it comes to guys who could fetch value in a trade, a guy like Jack certainly does as opposed to guys like Aucoin who would fetch a condition 7th Freddy Modin stye

If Aucoin is moved he will garner much higher than a conditional 7th. Modin was injured when traded and much further on the decline than Aucoin.

No, he won't.

This is where betting might get you to eventually not make such statements. If Aucoin were to get traded, and they may not even try, you would be taken to the cleaners.

Some team in a playoff race will need a veteran d-man for the push, especially if they have injury issues.
