I don't see Danny as a core player. PP and playoff specialist. It's a two-year deal.

He's such a stand-up guy, I think the fans will really like him!

People here are funny.

The only team who got SIGNIFICANTLY better is Detroit, adding Weiss AND Alfredsson.

Boston lost Jagr, Seguin, Peverley and Horton. Added Eriksson.
Ottawa lost Alfredsson and Silfverberg. Added Ryan and MacArthur.
Toronto lost MacArthur and Grabovski. Added Clarkson, Bolland and Bernier.
Buffalo did **** all.
TB added Filpulla, lost Lecavalier.
Florida did **** all.

We lost Ryder. Added Briere.

All in all, nobody got SIGNIFICANTLY better.

Ottawa got better offensively, but not all that dramatically.
Toronto lost some offense in detriment to physicality.
Boston lost TONS of depth.
TB might have lost offense.
Ottawa is much better.
Toronto is better.
Boston is probably better in the short term, though Horton is a loss he's never healthy anyway.

Who cares about the others?

Too much.

Excuse me for posting on a hockey forum during the number 1 activity day in the NHL.

Wasn't 100% directed at you, but your whining is more comical than anything, especially based on the assumption you've ACTUALLY worked yourself up to get that angry. Unless this is all a facade and you're just pretending to be this angry. Lighten up pal. This has nothing to do with you. Let's wait until hockey is played. Our place as fans is to watch it. We can discuss trades and moves, yeah, but guys like you getting this upset are hilarious.

Sounds like Bergy is standing pat.

I actually like MBs answer about the price to pay for size. It's tough. Obviously other GMs know we need it, it's pretty hard not to get bent over. Not too mention it's also hard to find a team willing to trade a reliable top6 player with size.

"we need to trade half our team for big skilled players" -Bergevin

I didn't know Ottawa gutted half their team for talent.

It's like a carbon copy of a Bob Gainey presser

Same **** every year. The price is always too high to get big players and we had to go for leftovers midget. Yet other team still pay those price and remain competitive years after year. With our current line up, no way we could be dreaming at a cup for the next 3-4 years.

When are we gonna be a good team, with a good core and a good balanced of skill, grit and size? In the last 10-15 years, the management refuses to address that need like the Flyers refusing to build their team from the back-end.

Apparently Bergevin thinks Parros is a "gars d'karactere". I'm sure DAChampion feels reassured about this move...

So he goes for players with no size and no skill left like Briere and Parros.

I don't believe a second of it. 9/3 is an awful contract offer.

There has been more evidence to suggest the 'external factors' side of the story than the one that says we didn't offer enough. If you choose to believe that, it's your prerogative, but the rest of us are going to go with what is far more likely to be the truth.

Here
Stats in playoffs important while considering Briere. Again, really focused on the fact he's respected and loved in Philly.

Scott Gomez was a playoffs beast too... Still not loving this Brière signing.

Probably, although we would save 4 millions in cap space for the trade deadline and if Latendresse could stay healthy, it wouldn't be such a downgrade.

I just think Gionta's the odd man out with the Brière signing. I'm ready to give a second chance to DD, and Gallagher is awesome.

With the current team.. and having Tender instead of Gio, we don't need cap space at the trade deadline because its very unlikely that we would make the playoffs.

Toronto is competitive years after years?

It has to come within the organization for us. These FA signings you moan about us not getting aren't what win you cups. It's development of players. And the off-season isn't over yet. I recall a year ago the same whining and we won the division. Yes the playoffs were our demise early but this team thrives when fans and media overlook it. It'll be tough to get 4th in our division or that crossover but I'm confident we can finish ahead of any team in the division except maybe Detroit or Boston.

That News conference was not reassuring. Saw nothing that hinted he wasn't ready to move forward with DD- Gionta-Briere-Plex- Gallagher in the Top-9 with Thomas as first offensive callup in Hamilton.

I'm in a great mood, I just like posting here with my e-friends and commiserating in the agony of being a Habs fan.

Must've missed the "the term and contract weren't the issue" and it was because of "external factors" he signed in Philly.

Meaning he DIDN'T WANT TO COME HERE.
It's far more likely that the agent says that than go out and admit that his client just wanted more money right after he got 30mil in buyout cash. I remain convinced that the Habs should've aggressively targeted Lecavalier and gave him a competitive offer.

Maybe he gets injured and plays like crap for Philly and we all look silly, maybe not. But the Habs need size in their top6 and don't have any.
