Interesting stuff.

I have to say, that was far from Seth Jones' best game in junior hockey. He was exploited a bit by the speed of the Mooseheads, which I find surprising, as we didn't see that much throughout the WHL season. He's typically able to go step for step with any forward he's matched up against, and his size and strength usually make him an easy winner on any play.

Really, the Hawks as a whole weren't on their game, especially once they gained the lead. They let up - really playing like they were going against second tier talent - and paid the price. The Memorial Cup tourny is a whole different animal, and they found that out last night!

Carruth also did his best Michael Leighton impression.

Carruth also did his best Michael Leighton impression.

Carruth has had some EPIC meltdowns in his WHL career. He's the Kyle Beach of goaltenders ... when he's on his game, he can be a dominant force that can take over a game. When he's in his whiny/it's not fair mode: Maybe more fun to watch. I've seen this guy make 50+ saves and win a game 3-2, and I've seen him throwing blockers into the face of attacking forwards and putting his team in unnecessary shorthanded situations, resulting in blowouts the other way.

In essence, the guy has some serious talent - but he is a complete headcase that is easy to knock off his game.

I got to say I was blown away by Mackinnon's acceleration on his second goal (the one where he burned Jones). He was hardly moving at the blueline, and flying by the hashmarks. Perhaps the most impressive thing, however, is that he is outsmarting people. He did it last night with the change of pace on Jones, and later made a fool of Carruth in Crosby-esque fashion. What that tells me is that even if NHL defenders find ways of getting used to his physical skills, Mackinnon will still find ways to score.

He didn't burn Jones imo, Seth recovered pretty well. That puck should have never went in.

But yeah.. those wheels.

Well i went to the Mooseheads and Blades game yesterday...apparently it was a bad game to go to since the Mooseheads were flat until about 12min left in the game. I'm not to sure whats up but Drouin has been pretty bad through 2 games. He reminds me of Patrick Kane, insane skill but when he isn't scoring you don't even know he's on the ice (one of the reasons i personally rank Barkov higher). MacKinnon had some good shifts and some bad, Blades definitely took any extra shots of him they could but it was good on him to just play through it. I just hope the officiating isn't that bad for the rest of the games in the tournament...

Carruth has had some awesome fights, so Hextall is a good comparison.

I was surprised this season that he was still playing in the WHL. I remember him from Johansen's days with the Winterhawks. It kind of puts Joey's struggles in Springfield in prospective when his teammates are still playing against kids.

Depending on how things work out picking the passer and the shooter would be a great draft imo.

Horvat is making a name for himself in these playoffs. Will it elevate his draft stock? My guess would be one or the other is gone before 14.

Unfortunately I think both are gone before 14. Right now the forwards appear to be more highly thought of and rated than the defensemen(outside of Jones). Guys like Mantha and Gauthier are more likely in the #14 slot as forwards. Granted people could fall in love with Zadorov's size, Ristolainen's skill set and Nurse's upside which could change a few things.

1) Jones
2) McKinnon
3) Barkov/Drouin
4) Drouin/Barkov
5) Lindholm
6) Monahan
7) Nichushkin

Maybe not the exact order but that's likely the top 7 based on skills and rankings. Then throw in the following:

8) Shinkaruk
9) Horvat
10) Domi
11) Wennberg
12) Nurse
13) Ristolainen

Those 6 would be my best guess on who would be next (not sure of the order but probably how I would rank them).

Leaves players like Mantha, Gauthier, Zykov, Lazar and a few others for CBJ to possibly consider. Or they trade down a bit to pick up another pick. If it's my team a a player like Shinkaruk or Domi is there around the Flyers pick (#11) I offer them something to move up. I'll go back to my standard offer of Savard and #14 to move up to #11 if one of those guys is available....

The Flyers might be a good trading partner. Should we offer Nikitin plus 14 to move up to number 11? Not sure Savard would be enough. One of Horvat or Domi would be available at that spot.

I agree, but if you ask Philly fans, they'll tell you they don't need more defencemen, they need better defencemen. That points to something like the 11th for Tyutin and the 19th. I'm not sure I would do it, but it would give us a much better shot at landing both Domi and Horvat.

Whole lot of overpayment going on. Not to mention they need Tyutin, or more specifically; his salary, like they need a bullet in the head.

This is the exact kind of deal that I am not looking for. An 11 pick for a valuable roster player. We aren't desperate to shed salary and the Flyers certainly aren't desperate to take it on.

We seem to get a little excited about players that, odds are, will not be as good as the player you gave up. If you get to picks in the 10-20 area, you might get one to work out in a good year. The odds of knocking out of the park might be 10-20%. Maybe this year will be different, but I'd resist the temptation of giving up too much for that chance.

I would rather hold on to that asset and use it for something truly tangible. Not something that may be valuable 3 or 4 years from now. Now if you want to use a couple of picks to move up, I have less of an issue with that. Like our two later 1st rounders for the #11.

I didn't say I would do it, though I would trade Tyutin straight up for the 11th. And the Flyers like to spend lots of money, even with low marginal returns; they won't mind buying out Bryz and or Briere to fit in the players they need. I might also do the 19th and 20-something picks for the 11th.

flyers are currently at the cap (over before pronger's LTIR) so they wouldn't do straight up w/o sending salary back
