I would take Patrik anyday in any situation (aside from the shootout) over Quitterchuk.

I'm pretty sure Patrik is better in the shootout over their careers. Kovalchuk was like between 20%-25% in the shootout before the 11-12 season. Being 78% that season really boosted his career percentage, especially with how many times we went to the shootout that year. Really skews his numbers too.

How was Kovy 6-3" 230? heavy bones and lower trunk? I was always shocked when they read out his bios. Not that I didn't believe it but 230 would be kinda chunky for his build.

Yea he had a massive lower body. The legs are the biggest muscle group on the body so I guess he hd it all there.

There's already been like 5 threads about him since the bomb dropped Thursday. It's been beaten to death already and its just ending up with everyone arguing with each other. I hear ya about the drinking part though, thank god this is happening over a weekend

Brunner is signing here unless that Swiss reporter and TG are trolling us which would be almost criminal after what we've been put through these last 2 days.

Can you post some of those tweets? I've totally missed we have been in on Brunner.

Ok then scratch Jagr for Brunner. I still want Grabo. It would take the crazy task of dumping Volch to get both, BUT we knew Lou was working on that before this Kovy mess when he resigned Zids.

TGfireandice: Devils pursuing Red Wings’ Damien Brunner?: The Devils appear to be closing in on signing unrestricted free ag... http://t.co/AmnwBFRh4s

BergerNeueLZ: Also, @damien_brunner appears to be headed to the #NJDevils. They're doing a lot of background work on him right now.

I find it hard to believe three different coaches, 2 who are famous for rolling lines all come to the conclusion that Kovalchuk should play the full pp and mid-20 minutes on a nightly basis independently.

Not to mention this guy immediately playing in the World's pretty much the day his season ended every year of his career. The guy flat out loves the game of hockey and would play the full 60 minutes every night if his body could handle it.

just because he scored on the PK does not mean he was good defensively.

It's more of an indication of breakaway speed and finish more than anything. Short handed goals are a combination of good defense, speed, anticipation, and blind luck. You don't necessarily need to have all 4 to score shorties.

A little fatalistic, I think.

Even minus Quitterchuk I doubt we are worse than last season.

Nice ring to it:laugh:

So we never got Satan, but we'll get a Damien? It must be an omen...

This didn't get enough love:laugh:

99% of the posters probably thought the U.S. fought the Russians in WW2. So no water off my back.

That was a needless generalisation. You want to defend your guy, do so without ignorant assumptions. You're trying to defend a goal scorer who just days ago quit on his team for whatever unjustified/justified reason versus a probable HOFer lifer with 2 cups, top 50 in PO scoring and a pro's pro. And your only argument is how much more a dynamic scorer he is compared to the Elias's overall game. Don't expect a smoke and a pancake.

Also, why do you guys argue with Tundra? If you haven't figured out going against the popular, accepted truth is his shtick, then you will soon.

I wasn't defending "my guy." I was just pointing out a questionable assumption (especially with two players at starkly different stages of their career). It should be noted that I believe this team will be better off going forward without a more injury prone Kovalchuk and his burdensome contract.

A week ago it wasn't widely accepted here that Patty was better than Kovy. That is pure bull****. There's a poll on the main board that has 60 some percent of the people saying Kovy is better than pat Kane..and if it was Kane v patty it would be a landslide in Kane direction. Get outta here saying that its widely accepted that patty is better than Kovy. We're mad at him so we say he's not that good. Nothing new here happens all the time

Just give me a pancake. I don't smoke. :sarcasm:

And semak, I really don't understand why some people still try to defend what Traitorchuk did. It's mind-boggling....

Fans are emotional by nature and they tend to throw objectivity out the window, especially when a player of Kovalchuk's importance leaves this team high and dry at a critical time. That's the beauty of sport fandom in that it carves out little cults.

Guess I'll come back when there is actual discussion about the New Jersey Devils 2013 team, and not this continued argument over Kovalchuk and other nonsense which really means nothing. I understand it is shocking and needs to be talked about, but this is not discussion, it's shear debate. Can't it be held in the Kovalchuk Quit thread?

Really now, come on...

Good point.

So has Brunner been signed yet?

I have a feeling he has.

I feel he has probably been signed, and Lou is pulling the usual, keeping it to himself.

Maybe he is not talking due to other moves/signings? Who knows. In Lou we trust.

I'm no big fan of throwing tons of money on unproven players. Not that big of a fan of Brunner. I guess he's ok since we need help and we're not giving up assets for him, but I would still like us to go after Vanek or someone similar.

Wouldn't mind a Henrique+ for a Vanek+extension, but I don't really know if it'll prove to be the Vanek of last year's season start. I am opting to stay away from the thoughts of Hemsky or Grabovski, just because we have cash doesn't mean we should overspend. I feel Brunner is worth the money he'll receive.

Maybe Heatley for some scraps?

there is no way we can afford to go after a guy with 1 year left on his contract and give up assets to get him

the organization is in no position to do that.

Depends on the term/money but I'd still be really happy signing Brunner. Especially given the Traitorchuk saga, he'll come in handy. Plus, he has a real nose for the net.

Yeah I have definitely liked what I've seen from Brunner, especially his playoff showing.

And as for Henrique, I am willing to deal him for the right return.

and I wouldnt trade Henrique in any deal involving Vanek, signed or not.

Exactly, it fills one hole by creating another. It isn't the way. If you could somehow pull him away and get an extension with JJ,or Fayne as the NHL player we can talk.

We need Henrique and Vanek, not just one.

Wow totally missed we were so close to signing Brunner. Hmm see what the term is, but this could definitely be good.

Please dump Volch and get Grabo too.

People need to realize that Detroit is letting Brunner go because they wanted Elias or Alfie. Then they also loaded up on Weiss. There was just no space left to give him the money he wanted. They only have 2.3M cap space left.

We have the money, sign him 3 years, 3.5M AAV. Low risk, high reward. Would love to see what he could do in a top six here. I know he did really well because of the players on Detroit but our players are no scrubs either.
