I'm going with this

In all seriousness, Lou's probably going to stand pat at the deadline. There's really nothing he can do to improve the club significantly until the offseason imo.

Not without mortgaging the future for what would be a pretty bad rental player at best. Draft picks are thin, and do we really want to move our prospects for some mediocre rental at this point?

Only think I want and hope he does do is sell Tally or one of the other Dmen not named Larrson, Fayne or Greene. Though he won't do it for low level picks it seems. I'd imagine he would want some kind of return for a NHL defenseman.

I'm doing the defenseman rankings with polls, but what do you guys think of a forward one?

I kind of want to do it, but I don't know how much of a response it will get.

Also, if I do wind up doing it, should I automatically pencil Kovalchuk in at number one, or should I actually do a poll for number 1?

Jim might have another answer for number 1!:sarcasm:

@TGfireandice: DeBoer said Kovalchuk has begun rehabbing his shoulder and he will be back this season but "not in the near future."

Which essentially means nothing, because they still can't put an exact timeline on it. I guess it's good that he's rehabbing it instead of having Clarskson swing at his shoulder with a sledgehammer though.

The thought of trading Elias never even crossed my mind.

If Lou traded him, the fanbase would quite justifiably erupt in riots.

I think we do too many polls

Let's take a poll on that and find out. :sarcasm:

Clarkson would miss anyway.

the problem with all of these rankings/polls is that you could be voting between 2 guys (paty and kovy for example) that each have their own skill sets…and really, you need both. same with offensive defensemen verses more cautious defensemen. so its kinda hard to pick one over the other. imo

but yes, its kovy.

We're always talking about how lost we'll be when Marty retires.

Personally, when Patty's gone, I think we'll be more ****ed.

Ah great, GF says if the Devils trade Clarkson she's done with the team, won't go to any more games, and will sell all her Devils stuff.

I'm open to trading Elias or Greene. There are some desperate orgs out there who can't wait around for equal value.

There are opportunities to cash in on the frenzy of the trade deadline. Secondly, you can't get too emotionally connected to players. This league is a Darwinian jungle.

Who said it was about being emotionally attached? You're asking to trade our highest scoring forward who is a 37 year old UFA at season's end, our defacto #1 d-man and what would you expect in return? Certainly nothing to "cash in on". Certainly nothing that would make us a better team without them.

It has nothing to do with emotion, but everything to do with keeping our team competitive for the long run. I'm not saying we don't have tradeable assets, but those offering up Elias, Greene and Clarkson are not thinking clearly or reasonably as to how to make this team better.

Agreed. That ideology essentially equates to not being happy with the team's current skid, and looking to simple shuffle deck.
