Hopefully without the coke addiction, and not becoming a Yankee.

Speaking of Doc and his coke addiction, has anyone ever read his book "Heat"? I thought about getting it off amazon, but would like some feedback before purchasing it.

I read Dickey's book and really liked it. Sometimes with those autobiographies they go overboard with the religion and it's almost like they are forcing Catholicism on you. I thought Dickey's book did a good job of balancing it. I'm currently reading Piazza's book and it's okay so far.

Scary thing is, purely on talent there's not that big of a discrepancy between Pelf and Harvey. Pelf could be a dominant pitcher if he actually understood how to pitch and wasn't a nutcase.

I disagree. The fastballs might be comorable, but Pelfrey was never able to develop a major league average breaking ball (the splitter looked like one for half a season, and then the whole league figured out that he couldn't throw it for a strike). I think you can easily hang a 70 on Harvey's slider, maybe a 75 on some nights. Pelfrey never had a weapon close to that. In fact, I think both of Harvey's other two off speed pitches are probably better than anything Pelfrey ever threw, as both are at least MLB average offerings.

I don't think Pelfrey really had problems with pitchability, I'd actually say that he did pretty well for himself with one pitch, but you can't be an effective MLB starter with just a fastball.

JA Happ got hit with linedrive on the head. Was bleeding and taken off of stretcher. Should MLB pitchers switch to helmets too?

He seems to think he's the best pitcher in the game. And then he goes out and performs like he is...

I was at the Mets game tonight. What a gem by Harvey. If Wheeler pans out we might actually have more than one quality starter in the rotation for a change.

It's such a shame that we couldn't give him a run tonight, but that was a hell of a performance and it was nice to see Baxter knock in the winner. Classic small ball.

2015 starting rotation of:

Harvey
Wheeler
Niese
Syndergaard
Montero/Fullmer/Gee/FA

.......

what...

Matt Harvey with just an unreal performance. That was the most dominant performance I have ever seen from a Mets pitcher. He's gonna get a few more cracks at the no-no. Already two solid pursuits this year.

Rotation looks good with Niese Harvey and hopefully Wheeler holding the fort. Bullpen seems to be taking shape with Parnell and Familia finding a groove. Can always sign a few arms, plus Montero and Fulmer have good chances at being effective. Infield is good with Wright, Murphy, Tejada, hopefully D'Arnaud and if Davis ever snaps out of it. OF is a BIG question mark, but Nimmo seems to be making strides and that can always be fixed in FA.

I'm excited about the future of the Mets, (cause I sure as hell can't be excited about the present).

I'd still trade for Stanton if I were the Mets. Wheeler and D'Arnaud are a good starting point.

If I'm Mets I'd trade Buck at some point. Some desperate team could pay premium for him. Yankees for instance. Buck is a free agent after this season.

Harvey is leading the league in strikeouts, second in ERA, and leading in WHIP--an astonishing .69, over 50 innings. Unreal.

lol.

In other words, your lineup just isn't getting on base.

Yep. What makes him so lethal is that he has great control and command of his pitches. He's not your run of the mill flamethrower that is susceptible to getting hit hard. He's like Verlander, painting corners with wicked stuff.

Another thing I like about Harvey is his demeanor. He has that "I know I'm getting you out" approach. He's a cocky dude, and as long as he doesn't go overboard with it, the Mets will hopefully have a gem for a long time.

As with many other things, I'd rather Harvey have too much confidence than be bereft of it.

I was at the Garden for game 3 on Monday and my father kept *****ing about how cocky Ovechkin was. I told him he was nuts and that's what I love about Ovechkin. I see the same thing in Harvey.
