all i know is the same roster next year will be hard pressed to beat philly or detroit for the 7-8 spots in our conference ........just sayin

I'd be shocked if Montreal came anywhere near the playoffs next year

Dont get me wrong im a huge Gardiner fan, he has serious poise and talent on the backend. Im a huge Gardiner fan....

but if Seguin is avaliable hell ya ill trade Gardiner... Seguin will make our forward core one of the most young and talented forward groups in the NHL... And we will still have Rielly to grow with them and offensive guys like Phaneuf, Franson and Seguins best friend, Jesse Blacker.

I would not trade Gardiner for many players, Seguins one of them. Hes a franchise # 1 centerman that Boston really has no choice but to trade or blow up there team and start a rebuild with Seguin Lucic Rask and Hamilton... (what i would do)

LOL. It'll NEVER happen, but what a ridiculous statement.

Seguin is the potential #1 Centre we've been needing since Sundin left. He may have been playing the wing in Boston because there was no room for him in the middle, but he IS a Centre, and has oodles of talent.

Seguin isnt the number one center we are looking for, he is about the same as Kadri with a bit more upside I guess; however he doesn't get gritty, he is an average at best defender and plays around the perimeter more so than Kessel does. No way you can have those two play together. We need a guy like Toews or Giroux or Kopitar to be our #1, I am not saying we can get them but thats what we need. The best we can hope for at this point in time is Vinny IMHO. And yes I would take Vinny over Seguin 10/10 times. Seguin will be a winger forever, and good because screw seguin and the bruins. :yo:

Also Gardiner is going to be an all star in the next 2-3 years, why give him away for Seguin aka Houdini in the playoffs?

I would love seguin. I think he had a lot of bad pick luck this playoffs. that said, I really like gardiner, and I wouldn't trade him at this point unless the return was crazy

Ya Seguin Kadri up the middle is a ridiculous proposition, with Kessel and JVR down the flanks longterm and Rielly starting the breakout we will be a really strong offensive team for a long time... I think we already will be with Gardiner Rielly Kadri Kessel JVR... But this makes us substantially better.

Exactly. I don't understand how a team could function with a bunch of small-ish skilled forwards. Kadri and Kessel should be the only skilled guys on their line, period.

And if Seguin can't play center?

We have a bunch of wingers and nobody to play in the middle
I see no reason why he couldn't play center. he's been a center all of his life. Just couldn't be used that way in Boston with the two guys ahead of him at that position. He is a very good player...on the wrong team for his skill set. I assume they'll trade him out of the east, if at all.I would think Boston would want a top 4 defenceman and a solid young player and a high pick....Maybe Edmonton?

If the Leafs can build a solid defense and get Ference and Scuderi, they would do themselves a huge favor.

A solid defense + one young center (ROR? can't be traded till the trade deadline, I know) = Leafs well on their way to being Cup contenders.

Phaneuf, Rielly, Gunnarsson, Gardiner, Scuderi, Ference. That's a good defense for a contending team.
I thought I read that the way ROR's contract is done, because his second year is at 7+ he would have to be qualified at over 7 mil on any new deal after this 2 year deal expires?...Does anyone know if this is correct?...

For what it's worth, was watching TSN last night and Ray Ferraro was saying "you don't trade Gardener"...paraphrasing there...just throwing that in there from a hockey analyst that I respect. I'm of the same belief , except you would move him "only if" the player(s) coming back are young and top level and a center is involved.

Reality check.

Seguin sucks. He has a terrible, weak and inaffectual playoffs on a good team and makes way too much at $5.5M. In short, he is a liability and is in no way equal or even close to Kadri. With Gardiner making under $1M his value is many times more than Seguin.

If Boston finds anyone to take him,it won't be anything close to Gardiner.Sending Gardiner to Boston, another bad idea. Next rumour...

If one can get past the copious grammatical errors I think he's onto something...

... that makes no sense.

What?

Im not the biggest Seguin fan, but I guarantee if he's available, 29 teams made a call.

Doesn't mean they offer a lot.

At $5.5 m I guarantee 29 teams don't call, they won't offer Gardiner and is trading with Boston such a good idea anymore? Not for us it isn't. Seguin is right now, an overpaid, potential dud.

What you meant to say,is if Gardiner was available(at under 1M) 29 teams would call.

Seguin will return a top 3 pick a B prospect and a salary dump/specialty forward. 21 year old forwards who can play C or W, locked up for 5.75 mil return a lot.

Think like FLA #2 ova, b prospect (Howden) and Bergenheim 2.7 milx2

Getting tired of all the hype about trade activity around the draft. To this point it has been a huge fizzle. Only trade has been involving Calgary shipping old guys to the Avs. Dull. Hopefully it picks up.

I do think though that this is going to be an exciting and eventful (yet unpredictable) next week in the NHL. Can't wait to see what all goes down!

If the Leafs had a top 3 pick, let alone a top 5 pick, I would not trade it for Seguin. Part of the allure for these early draft picks is that they still have the potential to be anything really.

It looks like Seguin is going to be an above average player in the NHL, but by no means is he the game breaking all-star that everyone projected him to be. The Leafs got their game breaking all-star in Phil Kessel. Kind of a dissapointment really that Seguin is #2 overall. You could argue that Kadri could develop into a better player than him.

I'm sorry but this is one of the worst proposals that I've ever heard. If FLA was offering the 2nd on its own BOS would run with it giggling like a little girl.

Wow you must read a lot of good proposals. Proven Commodity> Draft pick. A 21 year old, already 60 pt guy is worth the 2nd plus.

No one would trade a top 3 pick in this draft for $5.5M dud called Seguin. He has degressed and his development has levelled off badly. Duds who are locked up at a whopping $5.5M have no real value, it is all perceived or gambling. Even Nonnis talked about players making $5M+ but not playing upto it being liabilities you may have to buyout.

Imagine this,Florida makes that trade but Seguin has a horrible year and they miss the playoffs but Drouin becomes a 20 goal rookie. You now have to think about buying out Seguin while Drouin goes on to be an impact player. No way Florida offers their 2nd for Seguin. They would be lucky to get Edm's 7th and I even doubt that. You think you can overlook Seguin's contract, you can't.He is way overpaid.
