2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

Would the Sabres or Kings be interested in a deal for Vanek? Would fill the hole at #1 LW but his contract only has 1 year and I'm not sure what direction the Sabres are heading.

His cap hit is 7.1 million, we only have 5.2 million in space and Clifford, Lewis, Nolan, Martinez, and Muzzin still don't have contracts.

We have 10 forwards and 7 defensmen signed (2 being Ellerby and Schultz). We'd have to trade Greene, Williams, and one of Martinez/Muzzin in order to be able to take on Vanek's cap hit and would leave us with 4.65 mil to sign Clifford, Lewis, Nolan and whichever of Martinez/Muzzin we keep. I can't see that happening.

Buffalo can eat half his salary

It's been rumored that the only way any interested teams would acquire Miller and Vanek is under the assumption that Buffalo eats a large chunk of their salaries. Doubt they will. On one hand you'll get value for Miller at least (we all know that crotchety old man is leaving), but on the other hand ownership may not want to pony up the $$$.

They will likely trade them at the deadline when their deals are prorated and the cap goes up next season so teams can retain them.

I don't even think it'd take much to get him. They are rebuilding and he will get dealt, if the kings throw a nice package with buffalo eating 50% would be very good.

I had a lot of respect for the Oilers. Wayne Gretzky is my favorite player of all time, but over the last five years or so, most of it has gone away. The entire organization is such a ****ing gong show.

Since Sakic and Roy seem to be in win-sooner-than-later mode, I wonder if they might be a good trading partner in camp.

Maybe something around Martinez + Nolan for Siemens?

Fills 2 needs for them. We could send Siemens to Manchester while giving Nolan's spot to Pearson or Vey.

(I'd prefer to keep AMart but it's clear he's the odd man out.)

First thought is where's the money coming from? If Jagr would go for a a contract with heavy bonuses it might-could work... Clifford/Stoll/Jagr would be interesting....

Big question is if Penner is too slow for the King how is Jagr's speed... um...

How do people feel about Mark Fistric UFA right now (unless I missed a trade)? Looks like he loves standing up and hitting guys... He has some nice hits on youtube... even knocked Nolan on his butt... and Nolan isn't small... there mus be a catach because his $ is at 1.5 Million.. if he could hit like that and play D I'd think he get a lot more... Could just be the first time he's an UFA....

Don't compare Jagr and Penner. Ones much better than the other. Jagr could work with an Iggy contract. Low cap with easy bonuses.

Jagr may show his age, but he's dedicated as hell, gives over 100 percent every night, plays his heart, and would help with the younger kid's development MASSIVELY. Toffoli and Frattin, among others, would learn a TON! This has gained my interest substantially. Never thought we'd be interested.

I will give Jagr that, he is extremely dedicated. Few would contest that. The guy stays for hours after practice working on the ice.

I think Jagr's lack of speed is overblown. He's more than shifty enough enough to compensate.

And even better, people would hate seeing a specter of the 90s routinely burying them on, just like I did last year against the ****ing Stars.
