2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

The reason Chia is shopping him is because he doesn't have many expendable pieces to clear cap room for Rask and Bergeron with. Just like us!

It's either Marchand or Lucic who has to go.
Savard will be on the LTIR. To gain additional cap space they could trade Kelly with his $3mio too... Also Iginla will be of their books after this season...That's $13mio in cap space.

A lot of that sounds like M. Richards to me, that worked out pretty well.
Except Richards was playing nowhere near as dirty as Marchand does. And Richards backed up his play with fights against bigger players. Marchand goes after guys like Niskanen (and didn't exactly impress), Cogliano, Ribeiro...

This Marchand talk is a pipe dream. They would definitely want Toffoli, and we would have to sendsome salary as well. Which means wwe're giving up a good roster player and our best prospect. No thanks.

If you could trade Pearson instead, plus Williams, maybe there's a deal in there somewhere. Boston has Iginla for a year, add Williams, and keep Eriksson on the left side. Then if Iginla is gone after a year, Eriksson to the right side, and Pearson on the big club on LW.

But yeah, if the Bruins would be trading Marchand because of the need for cap space, the Kings won't be involved since they can't offer cap space relief.

Meh. Marchand would be nice, but not necessary. I just don't see a necessity for a player like him. He's also a pretty outspoken guy and could potentially cause ripples throughout a VERY tight knit Kings locker room.

On another topic, the longer Penner goes unsigned, the more likely I think he eventually resigns with us. Clearly there just aren't a lot of offers out there for him. I think if Dean can sign him for 1.5 - 2 million, maybe with another 1 million performance based bonus tacked on, I think we bring him back.

That gives us a lot of flexibility on LW with Brown, Penner, Frattin, King, and Clifford in the fold.

I can see a need to have a player come in who shakes something up though, gives everyone back some fire after having won a Cup. But that's just me. I don't think there's a way to afford him, but if he was available, I know DL likes players like Marchand. I seem to remember him saying that every army needs a criminal.

Marchand - Richards - Carter

That's an elite ****ing second line. I would definitely make room for him. Our MUCH needed left winger. We're a contender, I'd pull the trigger on that deal.

Who would you trade for him? Or make room?

Maybe J-Dub, it'd make our core younger that's for sure. Jdub is 31, Marchand is 25.

If it was for Williams and a small piece sure. But it wouldn't be. And it's be too rich for our blood. But man

Brown-Kopitar-Toffoli
Marchand-Richards-Carter

Looks pretty *** good.

It would cost a lot. Just for fun though, you'd have to put Marchand with Kopitar because Richards and Marchand make a really short line that would have trouble with size.

Marchand - Kopitar - Toffoli
Brown-richards - carter

More balanced in size this way.

A package around Justin Williams, Tanner Pearson, Alec Martinez, and a First.

That's a hefty package, but I'd pull the trigger. We're in a win-now mode and those don't come around very often. Losing all those pieces would be very difficult, but Marchand brings so much to the table and is such a perfect fit for our team that I would do it. Perhaps Boston could throw in a Second? As KingKopitar said, it would make us younger, nastier, and more dangerous on the left side.

I'd roll...

Marchand - Kopitar - Toffoli
Brown - Richards - Carter
Clifford - Stoll - Frattin
King - Lewis - Nolan

I mean, COME ON!

If Boston trades Marchand, they are going to want someone younger with similar upside. The package would be big, more than the kings could stomach.

Personally I prefer Williams over him. They put up similar numbers, but I'll take Williams in the playoffs. He's a slightly better performer overall and money in game 7's. No way would I add a prospect for a side grade, even with Marchand's contract. I wouldn't even do that trade straight up. Williams is the glue.

With Boston's cap situation they'd most likely want younger prospects signed cheaply, so guys like Toffoli, Pearson, Vey. Marchand would look good as our 2nd line LW though, but we can't afford **** right now.

You wouldn't trade Marchand for Williams straight up?

I wouldn't. We all know Williams fits in, is great in the room, and we know what he brings on the ice. Marchand puts up very similar numbers, but we don't know about those first two things. He likely would fit, but I'm more comfortable with the sure thing.

Plus, being a cap team, that extra million might be needed the next couple seasons. I wouldn't be upset with a straight up swap, i suppose, but if we added anything else I wouldn't like it.

That's true.

The only reason I'd do it straight up is because of the 6 year age difference, which is big.

And on top of that when it comes time to sign Williams he will be 33, and Marchand will still be signed for two more years at that point. To get a player like that you have to give. Tough call.

Hejduk is apparently looking to leave the Avs, made $2 million last season, right wing though. But could be making $2 million or less on a one year deal.

He's very slow and nearing the end though. Sounds like a Lombardi kind of guy :sarcasm:

Hejduk isn't slow is he. I thought he had average speed?

The difference between Marchand and Williams is not Tanner Pearson, Alec Martinez, and a First. Your really underestimating Williams he a 1st line rw with two cup rings on a great contract. If anything Williams and Martinez or Pearson certainly not adding a 1st

He should just retire. I can't imagine Hejduk playing for a different team. He's one of my favorite non-Kings player. His number will be in the rafters.

According to Hejduk's stats he threw a grand total of 6 hits in 29 games played. Don't think at his age he would excel in Sutter's system.

Would the Sabres or Kings be interested in a deal for Vanek? Would fill the hole at #1 LW but his contract only has 1 year and I'm not sure what direction the Sabres are heading.
