2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

For sure, Jagr is a very good kings player. I won't forget how he held off Kopitar and such single handedly. The young kids could use him a ton and develop their game with him, and he is just a good character.

Since Sakic and Roy seem to be in win-sooner-than-later mode, I wonder if they might be a good trading partner in camp.

Maybe something around Martinez + Nolan for Siemens?

Fills 2 needs for them. We could send Siemens to Manchester while giving Nolan's spot to Pearson or Vey.

(I'd prefer to keep AMart but it's clear he's the odd man out.)

Pearson and vey don't belong on the 4th line. That's an energy line reserved for agressive and physical players. Its the same as putting a 3rd liner on the 1st line. Its just not a good fit. A team needs the proper mix to be successful.

True dedication.

This postseason, pics of Jagr going for a late night skate have popped up (see here), as have those depicting him wearing a weighted vest (see here) a 30-pound flak jacket he wears for strength and conditioning.

Jagr isn't going to work for so many reasons...

Who do you displace on RW? Williams/Carter/TT? Sure move TT to his off-wing and you have TT/Richards/Carter not a real physical line.

Does he have the ability to back check and play defensively? My guess is that he will not have enough in the tank to get back on D and his speed (lack there of) will not help

Do you have to trade Stoll or Williams to find the money for 1 year of Jagr?

Jagr has size and uses it to protect the puck, but he doesn't play the physically punishing game the kings are set up for. At 40+ he'd be in retirement fast if he tried to play like Brown.

Again if Penner isn't playing physical enough or isn't skating fast enough for the team Jagr isn't going to deliver more speed or physicality.

Putting Jagr on the 3rd line wouldn't be a terrible option... He could teach King how to use his body to protect the puck.

Only way I'd be in is if I thought Jagr was the piece to put the kings over the top in the cup race next year... Jagr didn't put the Bruins over the top last year... Although his intangibles (not getting called for hooking that led to the game winner) are great.

Oh yeah and if you have extra time hit up cap geek and plug in Clifford and Lewis at 1.5 mill (3rd round pick offer sheet) and Nolan at 1 mill (cut off for no compensation) and tell me how the Kings aren't starting Ellerby as the 6th D... I'd much rather address that problem then think about Jagr.... Who would offer sheet Clifford for a 3rd round pick? Even a second round pick? I'd do that in a heat beat

I think Jagr would provide some nice depth in our forward group and he's good along the boards so that's a fit, but again he's another right wing and we have too many of those already.

This! And for those like the Dingo who say he'd help the PP a lot, He might...but the Kings went from 21st to 17th to 10th in the NHL on the PP. In fact the Kings PP went from 17th to 10th last season and they did it without one single PP goal from Anze Kopitar so I'm not sure Jagr's needed. Kopi on the other hand is...

Kings need to stay gritty. Skill is nice, but grit is why this team wins.

Damn Dirty Dingo! :sarcasm:

I'd take Jagr. Not gonna happen tho.

No , it won't. Jagr is chasing $$$$. That's the reason Montreal dropped out of the chase, he doesn't want the deal iggy got with bonues, he wants $$$ up front.

I'd rather go with Frattin on the 2nd line and make a play for vanek at the deadline if he's still available.

Unless Morrow signs for cheap.

DL should dangle a package of Martinez\Muzzin and King\Nolan + pick for a Paajavri\Hagelin\Boedker type. My gut tells me they will want Clifford and Muzzin +

Jagr faded badly with the Flyers in the second half of the season. He's good at protecting the puck and at taking very long shifts and that's it. He's going to the team that offers the most $$$$$$ and that's it. Not that there's anything wrong with that and it's not like he mails it in but I don't want any part of him.

Thanks for posting this. You watch enough Flier games to where I will take your insight on Jagr as word.

I didn't get to watch as many NHL games this past season as I usually do as I spent more time following the WHL NCAA and USJHL then normal which took up tons of time.

Jagr is one of the all time greatest forwards to play the game and had a nice come back going but with his style of play it would take a big commitment to bring him on to a team, not only in cash but also in ice time and development time too.

If he were available at the deadline for a reasonable deal and we had a need I would kick the tires again but that is about it.

I wish there was a like button cause I'd **** the **** out of it with this post.

Yes, he did and I don't see him being a good fit as a king, and since $$$ is driving his decision, it's not likely he will be.
But all of Lavvy's Flyers team fade in the latter part of the year and have done so each of his years. They start out great guns in Oct, racking up points until the end of Jan or so and the nFeb , they start to sputter and by March the full malaise has set in. In 2011, Richards was branded the reason and traded. But they did the same thing in 2012 and last year. It's just a brutal system to play for more than 5 months.

Lavvy's run and gun system is a high octane one that is mentally and physically taxing. The only reason they lasted deep in 2010 was that he came to them in Dec, not a full year and they barely made the playoffs. And it's likely without MR they'd not have made it out of NJ, he was that dominant in the first 2 serie (17 points in 12 games and physically dominating every shift.)

I wonder if Jagr is banking on a team like Carolina figuring they' have the $$$ to pay him and if they are not a playoff team (and given the new NHL playoff scenario, it looks that way) they'll trade him at the deadline and a contender will step in.

His workout ethic is top notch and he's great on the PP and protecting the puck, but he'll be 42 by the time the playoffs start. 82 games plus 28 more, is a lot and I think would take a toll. I can't see him being an effective 110 game guy.

This deal really doesn't help the Blues except for the fact it clears cap space to sign Petro and Stewart.

Now would be a great time for Homer to offer sheet Pietrangelo. 15 year/200 million or some albatross deal like that...
