2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

ahhh to remember all the 'Do it Dean' jokes by Devs fans after that summer

Our rabble kind of earned the derision as I recall.

We bum-rushed them in the finals, that ended any concern with Kovy or the Devils I could ever have.

I know I'm probably the only one here that wants this guy on the kings, but how angry would you guys be if Torres were to become a king?

I don't know if you guys know this but Stoll and Torres are good buddies. In fact, Stoll was in Torres' wedding party.

Is there Anything about Prospal yet? Any rumors where he wants to sign? I want him on the kings badly. I hope we are looking into it.

No, god no! I wouldn't even want Torres breathing my dirty southern californian air because I'd be worried his CO2 would be trying to headshot me

He'll have to take a pay cut and travel more to play for the Kings.

Yeah. I'd love Prospal here if it were possible! I bet DL has already kicked the tires though, and his price tag is probably too high for now.

#KHL's Atlant officially terminated Nik Zherdev's contract today. Any takers?

You know it's a shame he seemed to have issues and couldn't settle into the north American hockey system because he is one talented winger. I wasn't sure about the Flyers signing him in 2010 because he didnt' have the best reputation, but man could he move. And Lavvy hated him, didn't want Homer to sign him and didn't hide his hostility towards him from training camp on. He'd bench him for long stretches of games , Zherdev would come back and score, play well and get benched again. I'd rather have had him on Richie's wing than Carcillo, but Lavvy liked Carcillo. RIchards and Briere went out of their way to make him feel comfortable, working with him and spending time with him, esp on the road, something that Zherdev mentioned after he left, how much that meant to him. He scored more points in his limited minutes...I think he's burned his bridges here which is a shame. Maybe with the right coach, clearly it wasn't Lavvy, he could have turned himself around

Some pretty goals
this two are breakaways, both with nice feeds by Richie

Can't see him coming back. Not to mention it isn't very appealing if the KHL doesn't even want him.

Definitely don't see him as a Lombardi or Sutter type. I see the Kings letting Frattin and Pearson fight it out for that 2nd line left wing spot.

Zherdev? No, not in LA. I was just thinking out loud with my post. I liked him when he was with the Flyers, one helluva talent but the fact Lavvy didn't hide the fact he hated him, created problems, which Zherdev spoke about after he left. It's shame that a player with that much skill, has issues that lead to cracks in his career.

Reminds me a bit of Max Afinogenov or Sergei Samsonov, all with world class skill, but not being able to put it together. Those type of guys add to the negative Russian stigma, and now with the whole Kovulchuk debacle, Lomardi is probably as wary as ever.

Still wouldn't mind Prospal for some insurance, but I see Lombardi weathering this upcoming cap nightmare of a year by playing our young and cheap prospects until the cap goes up. I think Frattin will do well with Richards-Carter...

I do too. It should be a good fit for him, the power forward that line needs. If MR got 11 goals out of Andreas Nodl in 60 odd games , Frattin is good for 20 plus, he at least has offensive skill. Nodl barely had 4th line skills, which showed in the large amount of goals he didn't get, despite being set up.
New team, new coach, and I think a very good year for Frattin.

I think Frattin would be a big upgrade over Penner on that 2nd line but I, like others, would like to see Prospal there. We then have Frattin on the 3rd line, Clifford on the 4th, and King can sub in and out of the lineup as needed. It also lets Pearson get in another year with Mark Morris, which is never a bad thing. The only problem comes in that Sutter loves King so I could easily see it being Brown-Frattin-King-Clifford down the left side.

Wayne Simmonds had a charity ball hockey event a few blocks from my house so I went over to see what was up. The Stewart brothers, Doughty, Joel Ward, Zac Rinaldo and others were there, and Joe Bowen who is the pbp guy for the Leafs did the pbp. It was a lot of fun. Drew was NOT, I repeat NOT wearing a Blue Jays hat! http://www.flickr.com/photos/sammikens/sets/72157634630582792/ The pics from inside are kind of grainy because the light was bad.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Did you get to meet any of them? And I'm surprised Drew wasn't wearing his signature hat. I would think Toronto would be the place to wear it

I was shocked at Drew, but he did the right thing by wearing a hat that represented the charity! I didn't meet any of them, I am a photography geek and rarely take pictures of people and even more rarely take indoor pictures so I thought I'd try it out. I'd rather photograph birds! I felt like I was intruding even though I was at a distance.

FWIW, @SwissNHL claims Damien Brunner's will sign tomorrow with the #NJDevils. Two years, $3 million per.

If that's true, that's overpayment, the guy has less than 50 NHL games...but Jersey has the money now for whatever FA's are left. Maybe he turns out to be worth it, but seems like a a lot for someone with limited NHL experience.

New Jersey has no choice, they need to sign some offense regardless. Won't hurt them in the long run.

Devils-Kings rematch in the Cup finals. Devils troll the entire league and Kovy by winning the cup, forfeiting the 30th pick, and we all bow down to the greatness of Lou.

Also, San Jose doesn't make the playoffs this year. Wilson and McLellan both fired. Then I win the lottery and buy the team just to fold them. Yes, I really would waste hundreds of millions just to kill the Sharks.

seems like a poor investment. Buying them then giving them to Charles Wang would be a far greater punishment

Correction... They'll forfeit the 29th pick...

Jagr put up a video on his facebook crying in his beer about bleak prospects of being signed in the NHL

Yeah, because with over 110 mill in your career, you're now down to your last box of macaroni and cheese. If playing was important to him, he'd sign for reasonable money with a legit contender .

Anyway, puckdaddy had a article.
From the article about the video, a hilarious photo of him

...Jagr’s latest Facebook video, in which the former Boston Bruins star looks like someone Skyping from “Celebrity Rehabâ€, with tussled hair and gigantic sunglasses ...
