There are a few:
Boyle (will likely re-sign in San Jose)
Timonen
Markov

Hmm.

Really liked the latter two a few years ago. not sure of their effectiveness going forward.

I'm scared, though; losing Scuderi then Mitchell back to back would be pretty crippling imo. Need to explore some options, with a preference towards a top-2 or top-4 LHD. Maybe I'll look around the league on my lunch break :)

I look forward to forbort as a shutdown d. However agree it would be nice to add a vet LHD.
Dion and Kulikov would be my top two targets. Kulikov is not a vet but is a LHD with upside.

Jordan Nolan now with 5 goals, a +3 and 5 fight this year (7 if you count pre-season). Looking good. If he can crack the 10 goal mark that would be awesome. Stoked at how he has developed. Sad about how Clifford is progressing...ugh.

But still don't get why Clifford who is +7 is sitting over Frattin, -7. Playing Frattin puts Nolan on the LW. What is wrong with Vey between Clifford and Nolan? Is Sutter looking for more speed on that line? Then he should move Lewis down and Clifford/Nolan or Frattin up with Richards and Toffoli.

Just thinking out loud, maybe trade Lewis to the Canes for Gleason with Carolina retaining a portion of his contract? And also re-sign Carcillo. I think Vey is ready to surpass Lewis on the depth charts and as we saw how Lewis wasn't missed during the stretch of games where he was out.

With Nolan, you can tell that he's put effort into developing his offensive game. He actually attempts to make skill plays occasionally, something I've never seen from Lewis in his entire time here.

I still like Clifford a lot, but I think he was brought to the NHL too soon. It seems like he never had the chance to develop steadily.

Is there something wrong with Gleason these days? Why would Carolina give him up for so little?

At this point, it seems to me that Clifford, Fraser, Frattin, and potentially 1 goalie (my pick is Scrivens) is who we have available to move that is in our best interest at the trade deadline.

Who can we get as a decent left winger to fit in with Richards and Toffoli?

Can some package of Clifford, Frattin, Scrivens, and a mid draft pick, get us someone like Taylor Hall or a decent left winger? Is this a thing?

Lewis should be gone.

It's sad that Matt Greene on his second game back already got a point, giving it to Nolan. Lewis is on with Toffoli and Richards.

Lewis is too bad offensively to keep.

Plus I think maybe signing Scrivens to trade him would be a good idea, maybe boost his value a bit if we can get him on the a good deal. But that's an if it's a real good contract.

I like Nolan. Fraser should he gone and Lewis. Don't know about Clifford or Carcillo, but you keep them if we can't get a top 6 winger.

No.

It's his contract. It's way too rich for a stay at home defenseman. Hence the reason as to why the Hurricanes might have to swallow a chunk of Gleason's cap hit.

Carolina will have to spend money somewhere with the cap floor going up. Pitkanen's salary is gone after this year. Hainsey is also a free agent. They may end up trading Gleason, but I don't see how it's going to be about his contract being too rich.

Well, consider Florida and them moving Versteeg. Sometimes it just doesn't workout.

Perhaps nobody should be following the lead of a franchise that has missed the playoffs in every season but one since 99-00.

Versteeg was also part of that mercenary/castoff/misfit summer for Florida a few years ago. Gleason has been a fixture of Carolina's defense since 2006. One guy might not have more worth to a franchise than the other.

No way that would get us Hall, I still think we should look into Florida, preferably Thomas Fleishmann if the Cats retain salary on him.

Also I know everyone is down on Frattin but I would still hang on to him and see if he can put it together next year, he's shown flashes this year just needs to put it together.

Why are Lewis and Frattin still in the line-up?

My only question when combined are a -11 with 2 goals. Unreal.

I thought Frattin would take some time, but I thought he'd be a strong, physical, speedy, smart winger...I thought he was starting to get it before his latest injury but he's regressed a bit again. He needs ice time and more permanent linemates or I think he's just going to be another example of a team whose system seems to remove a player's offensive potential.

Lewis... he's Craig Johnson redux. And to think there was an outside chance of him making the olympic team at the beginning of the season. :shakehead

Lewis is a good solid player. We seem to have better options, but overall, I'm fine with him in the lineup.

Frattin just needs to play top 9 RW. But again, we seem to have better options.

Having better options is exactly why he should not be in there.

Lewis is a bottom 6 defensive forward and pk specialist, accept what he is and what his role on the team is. You don't have to score to be useful in our system.
