I know you were not asking me but if we could lock him up for around $5mil/year I would be happy.
As for length nothing more than 4 years.

A very fair offer but i would be leary about the number of years to risky to me. 3 would be the most i would go but only if hes signed cheap for the 3 year somewhere around 14 million most id do.

....Girardi signed an extension with the Rangers before the deadline. I'm not terribly infatuated with anybody out there on the UFA market, so I'd be fine with extending Mitchell for the time being until we find someone better.

And Williams should and will be kept to the end of his contract. One more year at 3.65 is hard not to like, even if he has an off year like this one.

He's still 4th in scoring on the team. So it's not like he's not having a year just like the whole team. It's a team thing not a player really when it comes to scoring.
But I fully agree he can't really be replaced for the cost.

To me it starts at the top. DL should start with gaborik. If it doesn't seem like he will re-sign than King definitely gets renewed. Either way he is an RFA so should not be priority.
Lewis would depend to me on what he is looking for. I am guessing he walks.
Mitchell I would try an re-sign, and I would let greene go.

I agree it does depend alot on Gaborik getting resigned but i see that as a no brainer. I also see greene being gone for sure ( him not playing alot down the strength is certainly a sign) Mitchell should be resigned if we can do it cheap. I also can see him let go if dean is ok with having both Mcnabb ( hes playing for sure or we lose him on waviers. ) and one of Gravel Boderchuk campbell or forbert making the club. Lewis is going to want to much to stay and vey looks like a lock to make it to me. So my question is what can we get for King at the draft He doesn't have a job to me come next fall. i think 2 nds would be what we shot for but open to ideas

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(estimations for 2014-15)
SALARY CAP: $68,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,646,894; BONUSES: $342,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $353,106

These are not lines I prefer or advocate, these are just the personnel in more or less the deployment we are currently seeing that is achieving results. There is a ton of mixing and matching you can do with them. This is likely what we'll look like next year if the cap is only going to climb to 68 million.

I think King's extension would not cost a whole heck of a lot. So should probably be brought back in. If not we are banking on Pearson's continued development.
If it was determined that he would be moved out I doubt he gets a 2nd as he is not signed. Would be nice though.

It doesn't have the sexy increase in Defense I want, but I it is likely accurate.

Why would we dump King other than because we can?

Well to me it would save on cap space Brown plays a better lw then rw and should be on the left side to me. Also depends on how much hes asking and if we can afford it while still resigning Gaborik imo we are going to be lucky to resign king less then 3 million but that something dean does well so i dunno

We won't be able to afford the D if the cap is in the 68M mark. Now if it had gotten to the original estimate of 71M then we could have.

Could trade brown for top pair LHD. THan put Richards back with carter on the right side, move TT to third line RW, and have Vey as centre

We all know Brown isn't going anywhere. He has had a bad year so his contract is horrible. And if he starts producing again his contract suddenly isn't horrible and we'd keep him.

I'm not saying get rid of VV because of his down year. Far from it. What I'm saying is, let's replace VV's spot with the same skillset in Martinez, but with a much friendlier cap hit.

Yeah, I figured that, but it would still surprise me. He's only in his first full season and I see huge potential. I'm so happy that Alec has flourished. How he hasn't had a stable role on this team all season boggles my mind.

If we continue to keep Martinez as our 3rd pairing exclusively, he'll likely not sign an extension here. Martinez is a top 4 dman, and if he can't be a top 4 here, he'll likely go elsewhere. So, if I had to choose between VV's 4.1M cap hit or AMart's 1.1M cap hit with the extension probably somewhere around 2M range, I would rather keep Amart.

Martinez - Voynov as a second pairing within a couple years is what I want and have wanted for a few years.

I think a mart is finally proving sutter wrong and he may change his mind and give hima shot 4at top 4 d man spot. I think there alot of king fans that think he deserves at least a change to play there again. I think he played well last year before he got hurt.

If Lombardi wants to bring in a big name dman to pair up with Doughty, I can see him moving VV, and have Martinez take Voynov's place.

Why would he deal Voynov? Because he's had 1 bad year? Voynov is basically having his sophmore slump this year is all. He's only 24, he'll rebound.

Personally in a couple years I envision a defense that looks like this:

Gravel/Doughty
McNabb/Voynov
Martinez/Forbort

A young, steady, defense with good speed and puck handling abilities. Doughty, Voynov and Martinez as the experienced 'veterans' so to speak
