ok im not saying i would make this trade but i m curious kings fans reaction of trading Richards for j staal ? shoud he agree to be traded( i think jordan has a no trade caluse) . My questions are if Is it a fair trade? Who would add if no and what.? Would you make it ?

I wouldn't do it.
To me at best it is a lateral move with a higher cap hit.

I like Vey but my money's on Shore.

We have so many kids that are ready to graduate, we almost need to roll 5 lines. I guess it's a nice problem to have eh? :)

I also think Richards gets traded in the off-season.

I love Shore as much as I do Vey. I think we are set either way. Vey has better O skill and instinct but Shore is no slouch in the Ozone either. Both play solid hockey but one of them will likely make the other expendable. We also have AndyAndy on the farm who imo is the perfect 4rth line C utility forward for our bottom 6 and is ready too.

I spent a bunch of time watching/following Zykov this season and think he has taken a nice step forward in his overall game. You can see he is working really hard on his positional play and where he was a speed/sniper at all costs he now is playing a smarter more responsible version of that style of game.

Two seasons he should be getting his cup of tea with the team too, three at the most if he stays healthy.

Then Porkins will come over asap and he could be right there with TT once he gets here. He has elite caliber dangle skills and a rocket for a wrister.

Next seasons line up should be pretty interesting for sure.

Wit hour wing depth (Zykov and Porks) I think we can deal with losing Williams when his contract is up. Also maybe makes Brown eventually expendable.
I feel sick saying that as Brown is first king to hoist the cup. but if he can be used to get Gio I do it.

As much as i would agree with you if Brown was the piece that would pry Gio out of calgary we do it. I don't see the flames interested in brown at all. Hes to old to be a key piece moving forward and would proberly be traded within a year. If we are tradeing with flames for Gio I think players like clifford and king hold more interest then brown.

Just curious and looking ahead to next season.

How much cap space will we have?

Do the Kings let Greene or Mitchell go?

Do the Kings look to acquire more offense season or defense?

Do we have any prospects ready to jump in next season? Bodnarchuk or McNabb?

What kind of deal would the Kings be looking to give Gaborik.

Also, with gaborik is our LW problem solved or do we need another top 6 LW?

Just wondering. Because it seems like one of the most busiest off seasons for DL in a long time.

I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions because I would genuinely freeze.

Some d-man will have to go, as McNabb needs to be on the roster. We are likely seeing the end of either Mitchell or Greene and I'm glad I don't have to decide there as I love both and I'm sure it'll rip DLs heart out. Though we could probably get more assets by trading one before the draft, I get the feeling DL lets them control their own fate as UFAs. Bodnarchuk deserves a shot imo but I just don't see who he beats which is unfortunate.

I think Gaborik is just about a must-sign at this point and I'm hoping he settles for 5 million-ish a year (dreaming).

Beyond that I wouldn't make many more changes, to be honest. Bottom 6 probably gets a slight makeover with some guys banging at the door, but I'm willing to bet DL lets people fight it all out at training camp for our roster spots.

Will look more later re: cap space and contracts when I have time because that's going to be the interesting part.

with Burke at the helm I wouldn't be surprised if brown hold more value to them then anywhere else.
I want Gio and would be ok with moving a lot of pieces out to get him. I wold include voynov, would also do TT. I wouldn't be happy about it but would do it.

I think TT was brought along to be JWs eventual replacement but I agree with what you are saying regarding him being able to be replaced if we decide to go that way. I was lucky enough to be at the Forum for Davie's first and last games and I see Brown the same way. Both were good O players to start their careers but were primarily hitter/two way players and both became different as they wen't along.

It happens with every player that way but I think we should keep Brown as long as he is at least effective. It means a lot to a locker room to have one vet who has been through everything with his team and knows the ropes inside and out and I see Brown as that guy but I may also be being too sentimental.

I think Zykov could be our 12 replacement if we can get him (MG) to sign with us and he could be ready as soon as 2 years from now (I am being a bit optimistic but Zykov keeps giving me reason to feel that way). Porkins will be a LW for us when he makes it. I got a chance to see him play 3 games live this year when I was in EU for Sochi and that is where I see Porkins playing in the NHL unless he comes in at C which is possible.

I think that Porkins could be an elite level talent for us when he makes it. I may be a strong proponent for some of our prospects but you will rarely see me use the words elite level talent but that is how strong of a prospect Porkins is. There isn't an aspect of his game that isn't at a very high level.

Playing with Kovulchul as a linemate Porkins looks like the better of the two players by a significant margin more often than not. It could be argued that Kovy phones it in most of the time and I wold agree with that to a certain extent but Porkins is so good that he makes Kovy look like he did years ago.

We are deep deep up front in our system and in a couple of years DL and co are going to get the recognition that they have deserved from the second year on with us. We are going to be a scary good team for a long time with the way we are stocked.

well i would say buffalo would have a major interest for brown compared to anywhere else due to the fact hes from that area and if i remember right there owener loves him. I recall reading this fact on hf somewhere so it may or may not be true. Now if were talking moveing him i would think Ehroff would be the player dean would target. I also have alot of love for Gio but i wouldnt encluded tt in that deal Hes to important to the kings furture top 6 imo.

I apologize in advance if this isn't the appropriate place to ask about this but I didn't see a Gaborik thread or trade deadline thread as active on the board. Feel free to ignore or have the Mods delete.

Is Gaborik in the plans for the Kings next year? Has he shown anything that indicates he's over his hernia surgery and his other issues (shoulder, knee, etc.)? I really wanted him to work out on the CBJ but just wasn't a fit. Seems like he should have a chance to occupy a top 6 LW position in LA.

would appreciate hearing the general sentiment or please direct me to the appropriate thread. Good luck and thanks.

I will give a shot to answering these.

Cap space nobody knows just yet.

I would keep Mitchell over Green but I would be open to filling both spots with another player as there are a few very good D out there this coming offseason.

We do have at least one D who is NHL ready in McNabb but there is the possibility taht Gravel could step right in an be NHL ready too. I spent most of my time this season following NCAA hockey and a bunch of that time was spent in Min so I got to see several of ScS games and Gravel looks like he could be NHL ready to me. If he isn't he isn't going to take more than a half a season in the AHL to get there.

He is that solid in every aspect of his game. Never panics and seems like he has to wait for everyone else to catch up more often than not. He is just so solid. McNabb should be with the team now imo. He has looked good in MCH in the times that I have seen him but he was ready to start the season in Buff and looked very good while he was there. He is a very good young big NHL dman who is ready to make the jump. He plays like a young Regehr imo for those of us who remember RR back when he was young and a dominant force at times.

I have no idea what we will offer Gaborik but I do know that we are trying to sign him right now (not right this second but we have been in talks with his agent though that is common knowledge).

If we sign 12 then I think with what we have on board we are good to go up front. Between our current roster and the kids we have ready to make the jump I think we are right where we want to be.

This should be a very busy/solid offseason for DL. A very important one too.

Hell yes imo he going to be a king next year the only question is how long and how much. To me i would like to resign him for 9 million two years or one year 5 million. I think keeping it short will give him a shot to stay healthy and show what he can do on a top team. Also it would save the kings money to use eslewhere. Hes shown alot of chemistry with kopitar that seem to get better every game. No health issues that ive seen.

So far he looks like a really good fit for us and we are looking to sign him for next season. Here is hoping that we do.

Interesting. So let's say we let both Mitchell and Greene go. That opens a good amount of space. Would Girardi be an option for DL?

And between Gravel and Bods. Which one is more ready?

Also if anyone can, which defensemen are hitting the market during the off-season?

So are the Kings set offensively with Gaborik or are they gonna make another move for LW?

If Williams goes, which would be a good move if we try getting a forward for him.

I'm just not sure which the Kings will be in the market for more. I believe defense is the first thing because our vets have hit rock bottom, and letting them walk would be smart if we can get some good defenseman ufas to replace them.

The biggest question marks are

Williams
Greene
Mitchell

I think it will be smart looking for a good asset for Williams in a trade.

And letting Greene and Mitchell go, bringing in someone like Girardi, and then try giving a kid a chance at a spot which would be a solid move.

I personally think our Defense is gonna look very different next year. And i look forward to it. Different in a very good way.

Rumor was Dl was given permission to speak to Gaborik's agent before the deadline. So with that in mind I would think he is in DL's plan next year.

I have a feeling its going ot be a busy off season the greene mitchell decesions the gaborik resigning ? but i think what happens to dwight king is a interesting question with pearson gaborik playing top 6 lw is he expenable? Do we resign Lewis ? Is brown a option to be moved cause hes 3rd line now? to me its sounding like a esposide of soap lol ( ok some may not be old enuff for that reference but i sure am )

....Girardi signed an extension with the Rangers before the deadline. I'm not terribly infatuated with anybody out there on the UFA market, so I'd be fine with extending Mitchell for the time being until we find someone better.

And Williams should and will be kept to the end of his contract. One more year at 3.65 is hard not to like, even if he has an off year like this one.

Greene will be let go, replaced with McNabb. Gaborik will be extended, probably at something like 5.5 million. King will likely get a raise to 1-1.5 (I used Troy Brouwer's old contracts as a comparable, just for fun). Lewis I'd love to keep, but unless he regresses in salary we can't afford him, he'll be replaced by Vey or Shore, perhaps both.

When all is said and done we're looking at a 22 man roster with a couple hundred thousand in cap space following King, Mitchell and Gaborik's extensions. Assuming the cap only climbs to 68 as per the rumours.

To me it starts at the top. DL should start with gaborik. If it doesn't seem like he will re-sign than King definitely gets renewed. Either way he is an RFA so should not be priority.
Lewis would depend to me on what he is looking for. I am guessing he walks.
Mitchell I would try an re-sign, and I would let greene go.

I know you were not asking me but if we could lock him up for around $5mil/year I would be happy.
As for length nothing more than 4 years.

The guy's already 32 yrs old. I'm thinking Lombardi won't offer anything more than 2 years, but I wouldn't be upset if signed longer.

I'm so happy he's a king. I have a big o'grin on my face, whenever I see his name on our roster. :)

Trading Williams would not be a good move. Yes TT could move into the top line but where else would you like to find a top line player for 3M. His cap hit is a little higher 3.6M but that is what his actual salary is next year.
