Prospect Info: 2013-2014 Rangers Prospects Thread (Player Stats in Post #1; Updated 12/17)

thanks for the feedback. i understand their differences,
i was paying attention on Brendl(Lundmark\Sedin twins) draft day -
(what a wasted day, trading up and drafting Brendl 4th, and trading Marc Savard and and a 1st for Lundmark and Hlavac) -
but what an underwhelming draft - after the Sedins, the best NHL career in the 1st or 2d rounds is likely Havlat - maybe Connolly or Leopold

my point was Tolchinsky could end up being a highly touted eastern europe sniper who doesn't make it, or a small forward who overcomes size and bias to achieve.

Tolchinsky is far from a the typical undrafted FA - his size, and trend of young Russians choosing the K over the NA minors, combined to get him passed over.
Can you recall any other cases of an undrafted teenager getting so much attention? Or signing at 18?

He seems to have far more upside than most of our recent amateur free agent signing prospects.
We'll see about Hrivik or Allen, but IMHO Tolchinsky is at least as likely to have a decent NHL career as Nicholls, Kantor, Jean, Hughes, or Donnay.

I guess you could use St Louis as a comparison on the simplest level, because they are both short...

Pavel Brendl and Tolchinsky have absolutely no comparison whatsoever. Different nationalities, size, game styles, expectations etc...

Yeah he uses an exfoliating moisturizer on them made from the sediment in the Dead Sea which is comprised of decaying shellfish and other small organic aquatic lifeforms.

I really wanted to make fun of the 1999 draft saying that there was nothing besides the Sedins available but upon further review... what a horrific draft.

2nd round: Jordan Leopold

3rd: Craig Anderson, Nik Hagman (?), F. Kaberle, Mike Comrie

4th: Ryan Malone

5th: Ryan Miller (blind squirrel and nuts)

6th: Michael Leighton (what blind squirrels usually get)

7th: Martin Erat, Henrik Zetterberg (really? really? good job scouts), Radim Vrbata (clap, clap)

8th: George Parros (at least he went to Princeton and can beat your ass), Radek Martinek, Jeff Finger, Doug Murray.

Seeing as how I graduated high school in 1998 and had never played ice hockey, I should've declared for this draft. I may have gotten paid....
 
Im just curious about how u guys feel about the Mcilwrath pick now that the dust has settled. Obviously 95% of us were choked about the off the board pick.. but i personally would not have it any other way now. He is exactly what the rangers need. It may be another 2 years before we see him in blue.. but thats better than watching trainwreck fowler

It's still way too early to come to any conclusions. We knew from the moment he was selected that it was going to be five years before we really had a good grasp on how the pick turned out. It's only been three years. He's right about where he was expected to be in his development which is good news, but let's wait for him to play his first NHL game before we start holding a parade.

Haha the parade is on hold. I just spent the last hour watching mcilrath highlights. Cant help but like what i see

Like a lot of other people that day when Fowler and Gormley were still on board I was thinking either of them but especially Fowler. Gormley has not done a lot to this point IMO and Fowler's turned into exactly the kind of defenseman that I hate--a non physical defensive liability living off of his offensive skill. The other choice would have been Tarasenko. That may have been best but at least I can see the need for a player of McIlrath's caliber/style in our organization. I don't expect Dylan to become a star by any means but I do think top 4 right side defenseman is reachable for him and whether he makes that or not I do expect he's going to be an NHL regular before too long and one other teams are going to notice and not like playing against.
 
Rangers still own Randy McNaught as property, but no contract, if I am reading everything right.

He seemed semi-promising, then got injured, then got lost, then got a little better, but a long ways to go, and now?

Just curious if that is basically his latest.
Anyone aware anything more specific? Do we see improvement?
I'm thinking 4th line. A guy 6'4 hits like a truck, ok, can fight, he still needs to skate well enough, but if he does, would be interesting as to 4th line down the road.
 
I'm just curious, does anyone have an actual highlight reel film of McIlrath playing? The only highlight reels I've seen of him are of him fighting, which I don't really care much for. Is he actually making progress on his skating, decision-making, and puck-moving game?

was it because he got hurt. or had a change of heart and decided to stop playing hockey??... i was pulling for him to have a Ryan Reaves type career here.. it seems like every team can draft their own tough guy except Rangers who had sign stiffs in the past like Voros and Brashear :help: claiming Orr a while back when he was a young kid was a solid move. maybe Rangers can do something like that this year... no point having a 30+ tough guy, they tend to break down quicker... need more grit than Asham and Dorsett. someone who has a bit more size and younger can help. still pulling for Mashinter.

Liking Mash. Whats holding him back, skating, decisions? Figure he will have a great shot next year when a lot of these 4th liners come off the books.

Forgot to mention that i wish we held onto Wiese not as a HW but a rugged guy who understands and can play a role

yep waiving Weise was a waste, especially since they did it at the time to keep Avery, who Torts didnt want, and it became the Avery in the minors mess
 
Have people actually watched Weise in Vancouver? We might as well complain about dropping a nickel into the sewer.

Wiese is Aaron Voros JR. always willing to fight but sucks at it but keeps being a punching bag :help:


i wonder if AV will turn NYR players into divers like the Canucks . i hope not :help:
