Prospect Info: 2013-2014 Rangers Prospects Thread (Player Stats in Post #1; Updated 12/17)

Tony D might get some more goals if Buffalo sends Grigorenko down. Grigs's junior rights belong to the Quebec Remparts, where Tony D plays. Buffalo sent him down on a conditioning assignment before deciding if he's going back to juniors.

My guess is that they send him to the WJC and then down to the Q.

The only problem there is that the Remparts are at their import limit and like the players they have. So they have to trade Grigs or one of the others within 14 days . If I'm not mistaken he didn't play with Duclair much last season and probably wouldn't this year.
 
Visited the Otters board, heard good things about Troy Donnay. Some calling him most improved player, some raving about his quicker skating. It would be really nice if we could get this monster to pan out, somehow.

Jordan Nolan?

I can't think of a poor-mans Callahan (think 10-15 points with the same hitting and grinding style).

He will drop the gloves if need be, will most likely be somewhere in the neighborhood of 70-90 PIM's each year because of that and his style of play but he is the type of player who will skate through a wall to win a game.

A smaller Ryan Reaves.

He destroys people with his hits. He mucks it up after almost every whistle, and fights anybody. He's still gotta fix some holes in his game, though.

Woah, let's not go crazy. He can drop the gloves, but he will never be a feared middle weight like Neil, let alone Reaves. More someone who will drop the gloves to defend someone and skate through a wall for his teammates.

Maybe Matt Hendricks-like?

Hendricks is a solid comparison. how about a smaller version of Eric Nystrom?? does he have any offense to his game at all??

Limited. It may translate better to the pros than it did to a bad team in Juniors but most likely not. Like I said, probably not looking for offense from him. Just hard-nosed, hitting and 'jam'. Blocks shots, PK's, hits hard, will stand-up for teammates, very good skater.

His points will come from the dirty areas near the net and pucks bouncing in off of him.

I compared him more to Ryan Reaves in courage, less in fighting skill.

I think he'll be able to tangle with some of the better middleweights when he's ready.

Possibly. We'll see how he develops. To me he is less of a fighter, and more of a gritty player who can fight, which is a good thing.

He's definitely got the tools. Ferocious competitor. The kinda player anyone would love to have.

I watch his hits, I think of Dustin Brown. He hits to hurt. The Rangers don't have anyone like that at any level minus Cally. Kreider's getting there too, hopefully.
 
how about Gregory Campbell as a comparison to Kantor?? does Kantor kill penalties at all?? have not watched much of the Wolfpack this year....
 
Kantor PKed a lot with Saginaw and Sudbury. He's a great skater and can keep up with everyone on ice. I don't like the Campbell comparison because Kantor is much more aggressive than Campbell, though not as talented.

Agreed. Loved what we saw of him in training camp. Very much hoping he can develop into the type of home-grown fourth liner whose absence the board has been lamenting.

Funny - I just looked him up on hockeydb and they only have him at 6'0" and 198lbs. I thought he was MUCH bigger than that. Just goes to show how big he plays and how hard he hits.

Its his skating. When you can skate very well and have lower body strength like he does, you can be a factor.
 
im shocked that Yogan hasnt had good stats so far this year?? has he played hurt? i know he had injuries and lost almost a year of development... i hope he makes his way to the Rangers in the future for even a game or 2 look.

The dude has been the most overrated prospect we have had the past 3 years by some posters for god knows why.
