Good stuff. Funny that we grabbed such an exciting prospect in a draft where we didn't even have a 1st rounder.

They bought low and aimed high. Duc was injured and fell off radars. Gordie and friends have a habit of doing that if you look at his picks. They'll take players that fall due to injury or for other reasons. Buchnevich was another pick like that.

Detroit has drafted like that too. They take a player who may be flawed but has one attribute that is the best of the entire draft class. Duc's speed is world class.

Right now, there are 3 players that could finish with a goal per game... it's very unusual these days in the QMJHL.

Mantha is just destroying the Q right now. 24g and 29a in 22 games? And he's listed at 6'5" and 204 lbs. Is he taking advantage of smaller players, or is he another steal for detroit? He had 50 goals last year. How did he last until the 20th pick? His HF profile mentions a questionable work ethic, but a player that size and that kind of production is hard to ignore.

It's hilarious that people still make ridiculous stereotypes for the Q.

It's not the same league; there are plenty of well rounded players that are coming out of the Q now.

Even the website is usable now. If that doesn't signify change I don't know what does.

Yes, he's certainly one to watch. Not even close to a sure thing, but definitely loaded with skill.

Buchnevich is a just as, if not more exciting. Boom or bust players that are having strong seasons.

Good lord that's video game stats right there. I'm interested in knowing too, I'm assuming he's just an immovable rock in the Q.

Also, 6' 5"? He can add another 20 lbs easily.

Have you, or anyone else, been able to watch his games? How does he look beyond the stats?

I do agree with the general sentiment here the fact that he is producing somewhat and sticking in KHL at 18 is a testament to his abilities and play in itself.

Nope, haven't seen a Severstal game. Hockey Streams used to offer KHL games but removed it for this season. Unless you find a random stream online, I don't know how else you'd see them.

I'm sure we have some European posters that are able to catch games. If you're out there, we'd love to hear from you!

Combination of speed, skills, goal scoring ability and size makes him a very dangerous player on the ice. He received lots of critics at the end of last season because of his work ethic. Some said he was invisible on the ice sometimes.

His progression is just unreal.

QMJHL 5th round pick in 2010.
Didn't make the Q team in 2010-11 so he played Midget AAA.
He had an ok season in AAA, finished 25th in scoring.
He made the team in Val D'Or in 2011-12.
He had 11 points (3+8) in his first 35 games in the Q.
Then, the breakout.
He had 40 points (19+21) in his last 27 games at the beginning of 2012.
89 points in 2012-13 (50+39)
Chosen in the 1st round in the NHL.
Now he's on pace for a season of 72 goals and 87 assists in 66 games.

The last player who got more than 150 points was Alexander Radulov in 2005-06...

Duclair is doing what he is supposed to do, dominate at his current level, how will he fare in the pros? We won't know the answer to that for a while.

I attended a PEI Islander game last night against Halifax . It was a good game and I watched Graves...big kid and moves not bad . He looks so much taller than the rest on the ice . He saw a lot of ice time . Played the body well...but was not overly physical nor was the game for that matter . I was hoping that him being a bigger guy and on home ice ...that he would of been a bit meaner especially on a couple of Halifax skill guys like Drouin[drooling watching him] and Ashley and the Danish kid the speedster Ehlers .

I don't watch the kid play, but that is a comparison I'd take every time

Adam Herman
Anthony Duclair is so incredibly similar to Hagelin, but with more offensive upside. Just made a great play in own zone to get a breakaway.

By the way, Duclair has a goal today, though it was basically an own goal. Still counts, and puts him at 22 goals through 24 games.

The Rangers scouts seem to know how to draft speedsters on the wing well. Callahan, Fast, Hagelin, Kreider, Duclair. They have good luck with that type of player.

Tambellini and Buchnevich have above average speed as well

Hopefully they can have the same type of luck with big mean dmen as they now have more than a few in the system in McIlrath, Noreau, Graves and Donnay.

Power forwards are still a true mystery though.

I was able to watch a few minutes of the Notre Dame game last night. Fogarty looked good. Good size and strength and good feel for the game as to where the space is inside the offensive zone. His foot speed is still a bit slow but he is a big kid who will need time.

He looked a lot better than last year in that game. More comfortable for sure.

Can anyone give me a brief synopsis on Duclair's and Skjei's recent play if they have been up to date?

I've been slacking, haven't seen Duclair lately.

Skjei looks light years beyond the player we saw last year. He's poised with the puck, confident, making smart decisions. He doesn't dominate you physically, but just makes smart defensive plays, is good with his stick (like Marc Staal, for example) and usually in the right position. I wasn't exactly concerned after last year, but I was eagerly awaiting this season to see how he'd handle a larger role. He's flourishing.

That's great to hear, I watched Minnesota a couple times last year and for the parts I saw of Skjei, he was all over the place. He seemed potential worthy but wasn't working that hard to reach it. That's really great to hear he's becoming the player we were hoping to see.

I've been hearing good things on Duclair but like someone asked, what about Boo Nieves?

Watching Duclair now, solid game. French gives me a headache.

Chicoutimi is really pouring it on, Duclair's line is literally the only one for the Remparts capable of getting out of their own zone right now.
