Greenville is pretty bad this year. Bottom third in the league, with 8 points in 11 games. Still, Josh Nicholls' performance is troubling: 11 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, -10. He's looking like a wasted contract at this point.

Noreau is scoreless in 10 games, though he's even. I haven't seen any of the games to know how he's looking.

Noreau's not really an offensive guy. He needs to work on his skating--play good defense and once in a while beat someone up.

Nicholls I'm a little surprised at. In Traverse City and in training camp he seemed to find ways to score. Good hand skills. It's tough for some breaking into the pros.

Right? I thought he looked good in the preseason. I was hoping that he'd put together a nice rookie campaign at the AHL level, so I'm surprised and disappointed to see him struggling in the ECHL. Obviously it's early and the sample size is very small, but that's a really bad start for him. He's supposed to be somewhat of an offensive catalyst while also remaining defensively reliable, so the combination of 2 points with the -10 is troubling. To put that plus-minus in perspective, the team is a collective -8 in goal differential.

its really hard to gain any insight from offensive QMJHL players..defense just doesnt exist there...look at some of the stats, kid just barely squeezes into top 10 in scoring with those gaudy numbers.

in recent years the ohl has been just as high scoring, if not higher scoring than the qmjhl.

Duclair is tied for second in goals scored in the Q. You can't get too much better than that...

Duc's Q team isn't that good either. It's not like he's surrounded by worldbeater talent. Quebec is a very mediocre team.

It's going to be a while before we see Duclair on broadway, regardless of the numbers he puts up in the Q. However, seeing him do well is certainly better than him playing poorly.

Much like MSC, I don't think we'll really have an idea of what we have in Duclair until after his first pro season.

Duclair is doing great, 2nd in goals is no joke. Honestly I do have a tough time believing in Q numbers. I know the OHL has been just as high scoring on paper. I think OHL numbers are overhyped too is point 1. Point 2 is when I watch, for example, Anthony Matha's goals from this year, I find myself saying "well that will never work at the pro level" about a lot of them.

Will have to try to tune in to watch Quebec more before I can have a real opinion. But that is my 2 cents from the gut aka 1 cent at best. It's great overall. I personally would not rush to anoint him yet.

Defense basically doesn't exist in the Q but they have some really good goaltenders down there, and it's a very physical league. It's definitely harder to play in than the OHL. He also just turned 18 like 2 months ago, 2nd in the Q in goals is not an easy thing at all to do.

I'm really surprised MSC's came is translating so poorly to the pros. The WHL is the best developmental/major junior league in NA, in my opinion. Tight checking with emphasis on all areas of the ice. He's 5' 11" 180 lbs. That's not impossible to overcome. I don't know what's up with this kid. Can anyone explain why he's doing nothing?

Is he getting enough minutes in HFD? I watched him in his first ECHL game with Greenville, and he looked pretty good, but needed to engage the play more. Even so, his stat line was 1-1-2. He racked up 2 more assists the next game, then was called up to HFD, did nothing in 7 games, then was sent back down yesterday. He's definitely not a Bottom-6 guy, so maybe he was stapled to the bench?

And that explains Duclair's lack of assists.

There are really 4 good forwards on Quebec's entire roster. Duclair being their best (some say Adam Erne is better but I disagree), Nicholas Sorensen, and Fabrice Herzog (I think that's how you spell it). Their roster is VERY mediocre outside those 4. They are all older than Tony as well.

It's also more that Duclair's just not a pass first guy. He's their go to goal guy. He's their Ovechkin, really. He's got some good complimentary guys, one on his level (Erne is his Backstrom), and that's it.

I'm very pleased with his play. Especially because at first, I thought he was mostly a product of Mikhail Grigorenko's play, and that his draft stats are more of the norm.

What's mostly important, is that his head coach asked him to shoot more, instead of passing. You have the 1st line comprised of 3 drafted players in Herzog, Erne and Sorensen. On Duclair's line, you have a center man who might or might not get drafted at 20, in Etchegary (now injured) and a good winger who will never make the next level. Therefore, his coach asked him to think shooting before passing.

In the past 2 yrs, he had 51G, 65A. He mostly played with Gringorenko, hence, could create, it's different this yr, they've asked him to shoot more....

Actually, Duclair is more of a creative than scorer. But he can do both very well and at very high speed. Having seen him play for the past 4 yrs, he likes to pass more than shooting. His coach asked him to shoot more to pass. Just look at his stats the past 2 yrs, 51G, 65A. Same at lower levels.

Playing with Grigoranko, they complemented each other, Grigo wouldn't have the stats without Dukes and vice and versa.

Roy tried putting Erne and Sorensen with Grigo, it didn't work, he always came back to Dukes.

That evidenced by him having 70 something shots in his first 20 games. He's shooting a lot more than he's ever been.

Which I'm OK with. This team needs goal scoring. Now and in the future.

Indeed! Give this coach the next 2 yrs to transform this high flying winger into a responsible 2 way scorring machine!

Duclair is on the PP for a min and a half, on the PK for a full minute and playing lots in between. He's played center, LW & yesterday he was playing RW.

Grigorenko and Duclair didn't play together last season. Duclair got injured in the 2nd game of the season and when he came back, he played a couple of games with Grigorenko and that was it. Then Grigorenko left for the WJC, after he played for Buffalo and when he came back, he played with Erne and Sorensen.

Defense doesn't exist? I disagree. It is a way more defensive league than it was 10 years ago. Quebec will even have its best defense at the U17 challenge in years. Good progress has been made on defense in that league.

Of course players put up points, it's junior hockey. The majority of these players will never make it at the pro level. But a goal per game isn't a 'normal' thing. It's actually really good. No player has done that in years. Right now, there are 3 players that could finish with a goal per game... it's very unusual these days in the QMJHL.

Another 2 goals for Duclair yesterday in a 4-0 win :handclap:

21 goals in 23 games. He has scored 25% of his whole teams goal total this season so far
