Your shocked?

The dude has been the most overrated prospect we have had the past 3 years by some posters for god knows why.

Like who? I haven't seen too much Yogan hype. Yogan hope and projection maybe but not much hype. I have gotten the sense that he has a pretty good chance of developing into an NHL regular and that's about it and that isn't really overreaction. Can't remember the last time I saw him get a top 6 projection from someone.

I think MSC will play and play well for the AHL later this year or next. Am I overrating?

If you are looking at overhyped. See Steven Fogarty. Definition of overhyped. Top 6 was thrown around. Settling for 3rd line hopeful now after disappointing the last few years.

Over-hyped, really? Fogarty? Yeah, when we drafted him people said that if things broke right that he could develop into a top six player, but pretty much from his first post-draft season spent in the BCHL people began souring on him. He was barely hyped to begin with, and save for a handful of folks around here, most people had written him off a year or two ago.

Guys like Evgeny Grachev were overhyped. Fogarty never received much of that, and if he did it was extremely short-lived.

This.

From the moment he was drafted, most posters pegged his absolute max upside as a 2nd liner. And everyone knew from Day 1 that he's a project, and was going to take a looooong time to finally be ready to go pro.

When I've watched him play, he doesn't scream Top-6 player, but he definitely has the tools to be a very good Bottom-6er, if things break right. Isn't that what everyone is complaining we can't develop ourselves?

Nobody is making excuses for him. He just needs time. We won't really know exactly what we have in him for another year or so at least.

Fogarty obviously is going to play one more season in college and probably two. The more likely scenario for his development was as a bottom 6 forward. It's still early with him--we don't know but it might just be that in his last couple years in college things click.

That was always the projection, so I don't see where this hype is. I remember posting few weeks ago to the effect that I have not heard much about Fogarty on this thread. If he's hyped, it ain't here.

Agree on Yogan, big, good puck skills and put up tons of jr points but so do alotta guys. Had a head-case tag and seemed to always try these cutsey dangle moves. Someone must have sat him down because he's playing with an edge and D now, still never saw him hyped beyond a mid- level prospect but seems to project toa 3/4 line ceiling.

MSC will develop into what im not sure. My impression is that maybe he coasted through jr without thd work because of his skill and now he's learning to work. He'llbe fine just hard to project because of the top 6 or nothing tag.

MSC reminds me of Cory Locke. also had over 100 pts in JR but never played in the ECHL.. also a 4th round pick

Solid game by Pavel Buchnevich today: he scored 2 goals and made 1 assist in Severstal's 4-0 win over Atlant

With teams considering taking him early in the 2nd round, I was excited when he fell to the Rangers. The exact kind of pick to make when your first selections are in the third round. Duclair and Buchnevich were swing-for-the-fences type picks, and even if only one pans out, would be huge. That both have been playing excellent hockey lately means good things ahead for now.

I agree with this comparison.
I was excited like most of us about MSC, but after watching him in the Memorial Cup 2 years ago, against top competition in his similar age group, I quickly changed my mind about him.
I know we shouldn't pass judgement on a tournament lasting 2 weeks, but he was COMPLETELY invisible during ALL those games. Add to that, the fact that he wasn't even invited to the initial JR Team Canada roster, after tearing up the WHL, and alarm bells should be going off, especially to those that think he'll end up as a top 6 forward in the NHL one day. I could be wrong, but...

yea at best i think he will be AHL player and later on in his career late 20s a few games here and there in the NHL. i hope im wrong.. i was hoping for a lesser skilled Marc Savard...

Are both Buchnevich and Duclair going to the WJC? Seems like we don't have that many Americans this time. I've wanted a Russian prospect for the longest time because they always seemed to have so much upside when Russia played in the WJC.

Agreeing here. I think most people knew that those numbers were not as telling as we'd all like them to have been. Not saying he is a bust, but I highly doubt he becomes an impact top-6 forward in the NHL.

Who has the higher ceiling between Buchnevich and Duclair? I feel like we're not hearing that much about the former, 10 points in 13 games for an 18 year old sounds amazing.

Buchnevich is having a great rookie year in the 2nd best league in the world. He should've been drafted a lot higher than he was, even with the Russian factor.

Absolute lock for the WJC18

Buchnevich has more raw skill, though I believe Duclair will be the better player.
