The Union defense owned the BC offense in their game in the Frozen Four. The Gophers experienced the same fate. That group was solid. From what I remember, their top 4 derived their success. The reaction on twitter is that Bodie was statistically better than their most hyped player, Shane Gostisbehere, but is also 3 years older.
He could be a steal. Gives us even more defensive depth. This is great news.
I have watched a dozen or so Union games this season since I am a Flyers fan and I like to watch Gostisbehere play. Bodie is a very good player, at that level. He is undersized and doesn't have the same speed or elusiveness as Gostisbehere, nor does he have the same potential. However, he is a smart player and takes many chances in the offensive zone. His defensive game is decent for his size, but he is prone to mistakes. If he can develop his defensive game with one season in the AHL, and add 10-15 lbs at least, he could make a nice bottom pairing defenseman, who can stabilize a 2nd unit PP.
Thanks for the input, I definitely agree with your take on MB.
Skapper got the L last night and Kootenay was eliminated.

That means he's ok. He's lucky that it happened late in the season and he feels no pressure to return. A full half a year off will be plenty for his brain to heal.
Thomas Spelling looks like he's going to the WC for Team Denmark. Might even get some 4th line time.
Well this is interesting, no?
Eh, is it? Denmark's best skater is Mikkel Bodker, followed by Jannik Hansen. Then they have Nicklas Jensen, a first round pick from a few years ago. Beyond that they have no recent NHL draft picks or NHL players. It's a nice honor being selected to play for your country, but the Danish team isn't particularly good.
To be fair, the same was said about MZA and Norway at one point.

You're right, and he could conceivably take an MZA-like journey to an NHL career. We both know, though, that that scenario is extremely unlikely. I'm not writing off Spelling as a prospect, but him getting fourth line minutes (maybe) on a mediocre-at-best WC squad doesn't do much for me.
I am not disagreeing, I too believe that Spelling is a long-shot to make the NHL, but having him play at this young age against top teams like Canada, Sweden and Czech Rep is a tremendous experience for him. It would also be a good way for us to gauge where he is on the development scale. If he's capable of holding his own, he's a real prospect. If he looks lost out there, we will need to temper our hopes even further.
Val-d'Or was outshot 41-16 last night, but managed to win Game Seven of their Conference Final against Halifax. They'll move onto the finals against Baie-Comeau, who are completely devoid of star power yet won the regular season title and swept their first two playoff series. Great experience for Ryan Graves. If Val-d'Or can win, he'll also get to play in the Memorial Cup next month.
Greenville beat Kalamazoo last night to win their first round series. Next they play the Wheeling Nailers. Interestingly, in the ECHL's Eastern Conference, the 1-4 seeds all lost to the 5-8 seeds. Greenville won as the 7 seed. Even in the Western Conference, the 2 and 3 seeds went down. Playoffs, man...
