Val-d'Or won last night, forcing a Game Seven for the championship. Ryan Graves had a monster game: 1 goal, 2 assists, 4 shots, 6 PIM and +4. He was one of two players with three points and led the team with his +4. Graves now has 8 points in 23 playoff games this year, with 22 PIMs and a +13. He's having an awesome year. Game Seven is tomorrow night.

The trade to Val-d'or has been the best thing for his career. 6'4 225 Dman, gotta like this pick so far.

Not that anyone cares right now but Ryan Graves and Val-d'Or are 8 minutes away from finishing off Baie-Comeau for their spot in the Memorial Cup.

The second addition was Bibeau in late December, followed by Ryan Graves a week and a half later. Bibeau stabilized the Foreurs in goal, and Graves gave the Foreurs one more big mobile defenceman to round out their top four.

“The trade deadline at Christmas when they decided to go get some guys really helped us a lot,†Mantha said. “The goalie’s been amazing since then, and Graves has done a heck of a job. We knew we could score goals but getting those goals to help us on defence made the difference.â€

Really, really nice season for Graves.

He's big, he's tough, and he can skate. That he showed a willingness to join the play (and good judgment in the process) is also very encouraging. He looks like a really solid mid-round pick for us so far. Which is good, because with our dearth of picks recently, we need some of these guys picked in the hundreds to pan out.

My scout friend recently told me that Graves has taken a big leap forward this year. "Becoming a real good prospect"

Wait, I haven't been paying attention to Graves a lick, thinking that he was a fringe prospect. I don't pay attention to late round picks unless they're putting up points. What's his upside? Top 6 D-man? Maybe top 4?

I'm sure that some of you know this but Ryan Graves was selected by Prince Edward Island in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft. A high draft pick in Gordie Clark's neighborhood. I'm sure that Gordie had been following Graves for some time before drafting him. So far, great pick.

Any idea on his upside?

I watched a little of last night's game...Graves showed more mobility and puck-handling ability than what I was expecting.

Graves is a very good skater.

He's still only 18 so I expect his puck moving to improve. Not a hell of a lot, but to a higher level.
