Graves is a powerful and agile skater with good-not-great acceleration. He kinda skates like Kevin Klein.

So, in Graves, are we basically looking at another Noreau-type dman with a little better skating and a bit more offense?

Nah. Noreau though he's improved his skating a lot still isn't anything special. And most of his skill is physical play and fighting. They aren't too similar as players, except that they're the same size.

ryan graves scored in the 1st period tonight

edit: it was changed to an assist

Noreau is really, really good when dropping the gloves but he's not really proven to be a goon type. 6 fights this past year--that's not really a lot. He's working on his game--his skating. Hopefully he'll get more time in the AHL next year.

As someone that doesn't watch Greenville, is that because he's playing a lot of minutes? I wouldn't want him fighting that much if he is.

Graves, conversely, seems to be moving away from fighting. He fought a good amount last year, this year a few times, but when he was traded to Val-d'Or he never fought again.

His wrister from the slot was redirected.

Graves was plus 3, highest in the game from either team. And of note - Val Do'r played without their 'best' Dman Gelinas, Graves took his place on the top pair.

Gelinas is slick offensively, but dear god he's horrid defensively.

I've said this 40,000 times but I really hope Clarke and co are taking a look at OA RHD Randy Gazzola, one of Graves' usual partners. Good combination of size and offensive instincts.

Yeah good call on Gazzola, I like him, and he's a righty. We have to be getting a good look at him with Graves on the team.

So which prospects are we looking at competing for immediate spots next year? Who's spot(s) are they competing for?

My list of prospects competing for positions are as follows:

Miller - 3c
Lindberg - 4c
Fast - 3 LW
Kristo - 2 R/L W
McI - 3 RD
Allen - 3 LD
Diaz (Not a prospect) - 2/3 RD

Bodie and Haggerty will probably get a look. Duclair, after the season he had, could get a shot since he can't go to the AHL.

I know people will kill me for it, but I still think Hrivik has a shot as well.

Noreau's upside is a John Erskine-like d-man. Maybe Adam McQuaid.

Graves potential is Mike Sauer.
Both types are still very useful in today's game. Sauer, as we saw, was a terrific #4 and could have still gotten better. McQuaid, before all the injuries this year, was very valuable on the B's blue line.

Watch out for Bourque as well. Could be a 4LW option. Exceptional PKer

2013 draft is looking good considering the first pick came at #65.

Very good seasons for Duclair, Buchnevich, Graves and Skapski. Tambellini had a crazy year but put up good numbers in Calgary.

Seems like most guys progressed as or better than expected.

If we could end up with a solid NHLer or two that would be huge.

Who needs first rounders? :P

Graves having a fantastic game tonight. Gazzola as well.

More draft related, but Dysin Mayo is winning me over with every hip check he makes.

Was watching this at the Dave and Busters in midtown. Cheered for Val-d'Or and got maybe 20 questions asking what country that's in. Pretty funny.

Awesome game from Graves, and the whole team really. Just lost to a better team in the Oil Kings.
