There is no way the Rangers don't bring back Bourque. He is a major part of the Dog Pack. Easily the most underrated player in our system.

Donnay might go back to juniors or break in in the ECHL. .

Good call re Donnay, I was wrongly assuming this was his overage year.
Playing with McDavid is a one-of-a-kind education and opportunity.

At 22, is Zamorsky better served playing over here on small ice and big rough north american style? Maybe playing top 4 minutes in Finland is just as good.

got 2 or 3 more games to watch, then we can get really serious thinking about next year

Bourque works incredibly hard, and is a likable kid. This past year he finally filled into a man's body and was more effectively than what he was his first 2 pro seasons. I don't think he is a threat to make the NHL or a run for the spot in the least bit.

He's fast, but not really a strong player at all, and for a 4th liner, I don't think too many teams have 5'9" grinders that can play that role effectively. Hard not to root for the guy as he showed up in games where the rest of the team just coasted around. I'd trade him to Boston to be with his dad and brother and pick up a draft pick. He's at least worth a 6th for them.

The top kids from Hartford imo are:

Miller, Fast, Lindberg then a drop off to Hrivik... then Kristo if the team doesn't care about defense. I don't think any of the kids will start at center under AV, rather both Miller and Lindberg will be eased in from the wing. Fast will make it as a righty shot before anyone else imo as he is a need, and fits the system nicely.

Allen on defense as a left side call up... then McIlrath as a right side call up. Both will probably start in the AHL again barring trades. I think Allen is ready now, and won't turn the puck over when he feels pressure. McIlrath needs some more reps where he can prove that he's steady Eddy for each and every night. Started to midway through last year, another 5-10 lbs of muscle and recognizing his reads a little better and he'll be ready.

Jean, Beach are gone. Waste of SPCs.

Hartford needs some veteran AHLers too since I don't expect too many kids to go pro this year. Including Donnay, who if he still is as lanky as those stats say, should go back to Erie and play on a powerhouse team. Dov Grumet Morris and Leneveau can stick around. Danny Syvret too, he was solid all year. Arron Johnson showed up for a month and mailed it in just like his buddy Nash this season.

Asham, Powe, Haley will all be elsewhere. Haley might get an NHL job somewhere, wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in FLA, CAL, or CLB. Powe should see another NHL contract too for a team that needs some PK help and some versatility on the 4th line. Asham is done.

Stu Bickel is a goner too. Hard to believe he played a role on the best regular season the Rangers had in the last 20 years. Guy was sad to be in Hartford.

Also think its safe to say Stajcer and Missaien won't be back. Waste of SPCs.

I think it's possible/likely that Bourque may look to sign on somewhere where he's given more of a chance to make an NHL team.

EDIT: He's RFA, right. So he can't just sign elsewhere. Still, the Rangers have shown to be very accommodating of players wanting to leave the organization (particularly in Hartford). If Bourque wants to move on to a an organization where he'll have a better opportunity to earn a spot, I think the Rangers would try to make that happen for him. We'll see.

Another year in Europe won't hurt him, just push back his ETA a tad. He could still take another step in Europe for sure, get closer to being a PPG D and more of a scoring D for the Czech National Team etc. I don't even think its a lock that he will become a "star" in the AHL.

But playing in the AHL wouldn't hurt him either.

I guess I'm not understanding why Bourque, a player who is extremely tenacious around the puck, a great PKer and a very good skater, couldn't play om this teams 4th line. What is the reasoning there?

It's Brad Richards' spot ;).

He might be able to. I don't know that anyone is saying he can't, rather, the Rangers haven't shown any indication that they want to give him a shot. Or, I guess more accurately, that the Rangers might not want to give him an NHL contract at this point.

Interesting conversation with Jeff Beukeboom at Rangerstown this week. Asked specifically about when McIlrath would be ready for NHL and Jeff confidently said "next season", He went on to say that he has made a lot of progress and would really fill a Rangers need.

I hope so! This team needs a nasty streak pretty badly. There are times I am watching games and I wish someone who just be able to knock someone off their feet or make players take notice and rush. This team lacks that a bit currently.

i wouldnt at all be surprised if the rangers simply give him a spot.

let stralman walk/trade his rights at the draft and go with something like...

Mcd/Girardi/Staal(resigned)/Klein/Moore/Mcilrath

Gotta get younger, Stralman is going to be too expensive, sadly.

I still think, as far as asset management goes, it would be smarter to re-sign Stralman and trade Staal but that's just me. I'm very excited for him to start playing with the big club.

Maybe I am too careful, but 'ready for the NHL' is not the same thing as 'ready for a season-long top-6 role'.
This season Falk/Diaz/Allen/McIlrath combined for a total of 37 NYR games.
That seems the role for McIlrath next year, a part-timer transitioning to a regular.
If he doesn't earn a spot out of camp, let him play first 6-8 weeks of top-4 minutes w HWP, then bring him up as depth D.

He was playing more than top-4 minutes this year. He was playing top pairing minutes.

mcilrath would be exciting. as much as ive railed against the pick, im looking forward to seeing what this kid can bring.

i dont see any reason why stralman cant be resigned and mcilrath brought in.

staal is the guy who would need to be moved and would bring back something of value. my only concern is then what do we do on the left side ?

mcd/girardi
moore/stralman
allen/klein
mcilrath

too many rookies.

Klein has played a little of the left side this season with the Rangers. I believe Stralman has played both the left and right side as well. Players can swing around.

My opinions: Staal is the most valuable Ranger. Should get the 'C'.

His injuries gave McDonagh the opening to mature even faster, great thing, but Staal is part of the core of this team

If Stralman walks, and they look outside, I like the youngest UFA who was NHL regular (per CapGeek), righty D Brett Bellemore 6'4" 225# about to turn 26

If we move Staal, you'd have to assume we'd get a lesser replacement elsewhere, rather move Moore up.

perhaps. would seem logical losing a guy who logs the kind of minutes staal does.

kleiner can play more. i believe in him. and im in the minority here but i think john moore can play more quality minutes too. im a huge believer in this kid getting alot better next season.

i still dont really see a spot for both allen and mcilrath and if push comes to shove, i prefer conor allen.

keeping girardi, stralman and klein kinda locks mcilrath out. hes another righty and he would need to play that side as a rook.

allen offers more offense and along with mcd and moore, we have potential to score from the blue line.

staal seems like a good draft day deal. why extend him when we cannot afford him and stralman and i prefer stralman. hell be cheaper and just as reliable. we have our #1 dman in mcd. we cant pay everyone.

If we do trade Staal anywhere, I'd want a 2015 1st coming back. I don't care about the package unless that comes is a part of the return. That draft class is too sick!!

How NHL ready is Skjei? If he signed this year, would he be good with 2014-15 in the A and then 2015-16 in the big leagues?
