Those who don't watch Hartford all gave up on him. Those who do are divided, but generally have a higher opinion of him than those who do not. He is a speedy spark plug with a good shot, excellent hockey sense and he is extraordinarily hard working.

I am rooting for precisely because he is such a hard worker. Great example for the team. The odds are against him because of his height, but do not count him out. He will get his chances in the NHL, and we'll see if he sticks.

If he does make it, Bourque will be an instant fan favorite.

By the way, if our LW will be Kreider, Duke, Hagelin and Bourque, cops will start giving the Rangers speeding tickets.

I like Borque and his game fits the Rangers but I feel like there has been room on the Rangers the past two seasons for him to get a shot in the bottom six at times, yet they have not given him that chance. The fourth line is godlike right now and there is no room for him elsewhere. They will bring back Pouliot, Boyle is a question mark but they should pay him. I just don't see him getting his chance unless something unforseen occurs with the current roster. Duclair is an impact player and if/when he is ready they will find room for him. I can't say the same with any certainty for Borque although I think he deserves it.

Exactly. I don't see any way he makes our roster on any kind of permanent basis. He's just buried behind too many long-term contracts and organizational depth. It certainly sounds like he's capable of being a Stephen Gionta type player on the 4th line, but with size already being an issue with our wingers, I doubt we would have one of our 4th line wingers be a smurf.

If NYR 'qualify' him, he can not choose another NHL organization, but could choose to go to Europe
(A handful of RFA's, such as ex-NYR prospect Roman Horak, who was selected just after Bourque, have signed in Europe already).
IMHO, I expect he is re-signed for 2 years.
But if doesn't show call-up promise, he becomes mid-level trade-bait.

Are skilled right handed defensemen much rarer than skilled lefties? It seems like almost every puck moving defenseman we have aside from Stralman plays the left side: McDonagh, Moore (kinda), Skjei, Bodie, etc. Is Allen a good puck mover (in terms of breakout passing moreso than putting up points)? He's left handed too. Calle Andersson's really it for right handed puck movers in the system. I guess Diaz kind of fits the bill as a third pairing guy.

roughly 2/3 of the dmen in the nhl are lefties...so pure odds say there should be twice as many skilled lefties cause there are twice as many lefties

He apparently won the Czechs version of the Norris trophy over there. He is only 21 and won the championship with HC Zlin. From videos I've seen on youtube, he can score and put on moves. He likes to hit, but a lot of hits were to the head and/or cheap shots IMO. Hopefully that can be fixed.

I'd settle for a scoring right handed defenseman. Everything else is negotiable.

If you look at HF's system analysis of the Rangers, it lists two weaknesses:

1. No future number one netminder in system
2. No purely offensive defensemen in system

Number one is still a work in progress, but I think a couple of the UDFA moves have helped address number two. Bodie and Zamorsky are definitely offensive defenseman with upside. If either of them pan out, it's a home run. To say nothing of Calle Andersson, who has the tools to be an offensive catalyst at the back end but has not yet put it together.

I'd still like to add a goalie or two through UDFA or the draft.

A left handed D is a left D and a right handed D is a right D, in the game today.

There isn't one D in the entire league that isn't hurt by playing the off side in the NHL today per default.

Just realized (although I seem to recall being surprised by it before) - Kristo's contract is up THIS offseason. So the 80 NHL game limit isn't that big a deal. They do need to make the decision on him this offseason, however. Can't imagine it'll be very hard given that he has yet to crack the NHL lineup...

I see Kristo return as almost a lock, Bourque and Jean are iffy; I'd re-sign both, they can always be trade bait to fill needs later, like Newbury and Mashinter were.

and Hensick may be re-signed (AHL) for a vet presence

I do wonder if the German 20-yr-old Latta, who joined HWP late from OHL, made any impression. We'll know maybe when the Development Camp roster releases

Agreed with much of the above, but I think they'll let Jean go and Bourque's agent will try to get him an NHL deal elsewhere.

Also, don't be surprised if Hrivik makes a push, especially if Pouliot walks.

Jean sucks, hard for me to see him coming back. I think he signs with Greenville. Wilson and Beach are probably gone from the organization entirely.

I'm sure the team would love to bring back Hensick on an AHL deal, though he'll probably look for an NHL deal somewhere. Not sure he finds it, but there's a chance.

Bourque had a very good season this year. His offense finally came around at the AHL level. He's really small but is a great skater, penalty kills and has lots of energy. Personally I'd give him another shot.

Hrivik didn't have a good year. 13 goals and 24 points in 74 games. That's the AHL. I don't see him in any way, shape or form replacing Pouliot next year. Pouliot had 36 points in 80 NHL games and that was after a really poor first two months.

Hartford is going to need to sign some veterans just to give the younger guys a fighting chance.

As of now returnees:

Forwards--Miller, Fast, Lindberg, Kristo, Hrivik, Yogan, St. Croix, Kantor, Nicholls, Haggerty, McCarthy. Miller and Fast might make the Rangers next year. I'd add Bourque. The other RFA's can take a hike.

Defense--McIlrath, Allen, Hughes, Noreau, Bodie, Zamorsky, Donnay. Calle Andersson will play for Zug in Switzerland. Zamorsky might end up on a Finnish team. Donnay might go back to juniors or break in in the ECHL. Noreau spent almost all of last year in the ECHL. Allen has the best shot at making the Rangers.

Goal--probably Skapski. Maybe they'll re-sign LeNeveu or sign Grumet-Morris.

Duclair and Graves probably go back to juniors.

Hartford looked at St. Lawrence d-man Justin Baker after his senior year in college. They also looked at Nickolas Latta an OHL forward.

Finished--Asham, Jean, Beach, Haley, Powe, Bickel, Johnson, Syvret, Missiaen, Stajcer, Wilson.

Rumor a few months ago was that the Rangers were one of, if not the only team heavily scouting Russian goalie Igor Shestyorkin who will easily be playing in the KHL next year (although it'll be tough since he moved on to the SKA St. Petersburg organization competing with Dmitri Shikin and Ilya Yezhov for the back up to Alexander Salak). To me, and another poster who posted about him on the Prospects page, he plays like Varlamov and is extremely poised under pressure. Future is looking good for the kid and will most likely be selected in the later rounds, too. Low risk, high reward and could be an option for the post-Lundqvist era.
