Canuck fan here watching the Hitmen playoff series to get a look at Virtanen (not impressed at all).

Tambellini has been the Hitmen's best player IMO. Smart, good passer, and active without the puck. Does a lot of little things to gain/keep possession.

Sorry, it's been determined that he's too old to be impressive. :sarcasm:

so far, Buchnevich played 4 games in the Nadezhdi cup. He had one solid game, where he scored a goal, but was very "meh" other than that.

Thanks for the analysis :)

New Top-50 List.

All but top-20 have so far been revealed. No Anthony Duclair so far.

I dont know if he's top-20, but i cant see him getting snubbed off the list completely. Would they really leave off a MVP finalist from their list?

Leslie has Duclair fourth in our prospect list. That likely means that Duclair isn't on the list, as it's extremely unlikely that we have four guys in the top 50--especially when you consider the have us as one of the three or four worst systems overall.

Thats my feeling as well. Still, how do you justify leaving off an MVP-level player? He's not even 50th? come on.

12x3 is 36. Even if the top three of every league gets a spot, then he should get one of the top 50 places.

That doesn't account for guys like JT Miller or Jesper Fast, who aren't close to the MVP of their perspective league yet are better prospects than Duclair.

I like him as a sleeper prospect anyway. :yo:

It's not that easy though. You have lots of guys playing in the NHL that still are considered prospects by HF standards. Duclair is an excellent sleeper imo, but I'm not surprised he doesn't sniff the top 50. If he backs this season up with another outstanding year, I could see him shooting up in that ranking.
But, skimming through prospect pools, there about 15 guys I'd consider better than him on BUFs and TBLs prospect lists alone. Grig, Girg, Armia, Risto, McCabe, Pysyk, Zadorov (holy ****, that blueline) for BUF, Drouin, Namestnikov, Vasilevsky, Kucher, Paquette, Koekkoek, Sustr for TB, if anyone wants clarification.

so i guess JT Miller isnt a top 50 prospect, unless im missing him on the 11-50 lists released. I dont know how a 20 year old putting up over a PPG in the AHL and is big, fast, aggressive, and skilled isnt a top 50 prospect.

I really don't care where the prospects are ranked as long as they improve and eventually contribute at the NHL level. Stupid rankings don't determine how likely that is, so whatever.

I think Nyquist in Detorit is like leading the league in scoring the last two months or something like that. Was he ever in a top 50? No, there is a bunch of big Russians, sexy picks from the CHL with a pretty pedigree, Swedes that has something that irks you about them etc (besides the true tier A prospects of course).

From my point of view, there are so many players that don't really fit in on a top notch contender. If you want to become that, certain type of players are very square assets. I think like 3/5 players in the typical top 50 fits that mold. I am not saying that those players should be disregarded, often you have few options and its better to get something that nothing for sure. And players evolve all the time. But take a kid like Buchnevich. I like him and I like the pick, considered where it was made. But, and even we had like a 2.0 version of him, what odds would it be fair to put on him to have a big role on a Stanley Cup winning team? Its not going to be high. I feel the same way for Emerson Etem. You know.

Jamie Benn 5th round, Carl Hagelin 6th round and Henrik Lundqvist 7th round i dont think was ever in the top 50 prospects. it does not matter where you get drafted, it matters what the player will do to improve after he gets drafted..

Exactly. I don't get it why people sometimes get worked up over the rankings.

It was only yesterday it seems when the rangers were determined to break from the win now mode and build through the draft. Given our lack of higher picks the next few yrs coupled with better records I think targeting some more guys like duclair / fast is the way to go. Guys undrvalued due to injury or off yrs who can skate.

Pump some more cash into Europe to scout swedes and find some jems like the wings do. Get rid of the prospects who at best don't project to what we need on rangers. Take advantage of cash strapped teams to acquire talent by any means available. Corruption seems to work well for politicians, if it gets us a player let's start greasing pockets!

Robert Morris is going to get trounced. Should provide a good look at Skjei, though nothing will likely ever top the Kreider vs Stepan/McDonagh championship game of a few years back.

Playing an inferior team gives us a good look at Skjei?

Minnesota women were ranked #1, lost to Clarkson in the title game, good old NY team ;)

Holy Cross upset the Gophers in 2006. Kessel played on that team. In these one and done tournaments, the best team doesn't always win. RIT in 2010 made the Frozen 4. Tanev was on that team. A team has a bad game. Go home.
