Val-d'Or crushed Sherbrooke tonight 6-0. Graves had no points and a +1.

They also clinched the Western division. Huge surge by them the last 1/3rd of the season.

Keep drafting American. Skjei is looking better and better by the game. I'm very confident he'll be at least a solid middle pairing NHL defenseman.

Make it another for Skjei. He's got both of Minny's goals tonight. Even rating with Minny losing 6-2.

Yeah he was on for two but scored two. Overall he was one of Minny's better players. I wonder if their forwards will disappear in March again.

Dare to dream Crow, dare to dream....

Drafting non-Canadians is advantageous because they wind up playing in the WJC, a great experience for these kids. That's particularly true for Americans, Russians and Swedes who usually go deep, though true to a lesser degree for Finland and Czech Republic as well. But even if you play for Latvia or Germany and get smacked in the WJC, it's still a valuable experience. But certainly participating in the US-Canada or Sweden-Russia games is big time for teens.

Beacon- Agreed.

From my point of view, I've started to believe/ figure out that it comes down to this. Everyone work out really hard. But talent don explain everything. It seems like you need a fair amount of "hybris" to push yourself that extra mile and really seperate yourself from the rest.

Kids that participates in the WJC and does well also seem to get a big push in the right direction. It is important.

The Rangers have good success with the American kids. Miller and Skjei played for the US Development program in Michigan. How did the Rangers miss on Hudson Fasching? They had 4 selections before Fasching went. A player from the US Development team. Andrew Copp of Michigan is a load. He will be a very good player in the NHL. Winnipeg has his rights. 4th round pick in 2013. Another USNTDP player. Copp didn't commit fully commit himself to hockey until he went to Michigan because also played high school football. The program allowed to keeping football after joining the US program. That program in Ann Arbor is producing quality players.

Dylan Larkin is a product of the Ann Arbor program. Michigan freshman in the fall. Big,strong center. He will be a first round pick in June.

Skjei has gotten better and better. Minnesota has the big 10 tournament starting on Thursday. First round bye. NCAA tournament late next week. Frozen 4 two weeks later. Minnesota could be the top seed. BC could be the #1 seed.

Skjei is a decent pick. I like his physical stature / prescense on the ice.

The only downside with him -- taking into consideration where he was picked -- is that we have so much depth at LD already...

The US program is really good, especially at developing wingers and Ds. Centers? There was a long time ago a really good center came out of the US program. The Finnish program is hot now. The Swedish program is especially developing some really fantastic PMDs.

How good is the Canadian program right now? You can never disregard it, even when it's not peaking they produce someone like McKinnon, he is fantastic. Will become an electric player. But it's maybe not as strong as it has been right now.

Not anymore. It was true for years, but then Valentenko left, Erixon was traded, so was Del Zotto, and we don't know what will happen with Staal. If Staal leaves or forces a trade before his free agency, we'll be very soft on the LD.

If anything, we have more depth on the RD, even if Stralman leaves, seeing as Allen and MCI are both RDs. We don't have any quality LD prospects besides Skjei.

It seems to me they've been playing Allen exclusively at LD for the last month in HFD.

Only a good thing to be able to play both sides - although I think he's actually better on the right (as of now, anyway).

Since we're in playoffs now, we won't have a clear answer about Duclair but from what I've read, he should play in the first game on Friday. He was smiling when journalists asked him if he would play.

explain this, how come the Rangers have not drafted a finnish player since Korpikoski which was 10 years ago? is that normal to avoid a hockey player in a certain european league?

you mean avoid a player from a certain country ?

we draft north americans. usa and canadian kids. and swedes it seems.

there have been a few good centerman recently but finland has cooled as far as producing high end talent lately.

to me, when i think of finns, i think of defensively responsible forwards and thats pretty much it.

Honka might break that trend this year.

This year we can see Kasperi Kapanen, Julius Honka, Kaapo Kahkonen, and Juho Lammiko go in the first 3 rounds and then who knows if Juuso Ikonen is going to get selected. Eetu Sopanen is a late riser, in my opinion.

Next year is huge as Mikko Rantanen, Aleksi Saarela, Sami Niku, and Julius Nattinen might all go in the 1st round.

Then in 2016, look for Jesse Puljujarvi to be top 10 and Patrik Laine to be picked mid to late 1st round. Guys like Olli Juolevi, Tarmo Reunanen, Juha Jaaska, Oliver Felixson, Markus Nurmi, Otto Makinen, Jesper Mattila, Niko Lonnroos, Janne Kuokkanen, Aapeli Rasanen, Markus Niemelainen, and Otto Somppi to be selected somewhere in that draft, too.

Needless to say the Fins are popping out some good talent the next few years as well as this one so we should keep our eyes wide and really start searching here.

There are about as many people living in Detroit Michigan as there are in the entirety of the country of Finland.

The Rangers aren't deliberately avoiding Finnish players.

On my perfect team in my dream world, we are set at LD for the coming 7-8 years with McD and Staal, while we add a scoring RD to play ahead of Girardi. ;)

We haven't drafted a Finn since Rocker got canned.

When was the last time we picked a Finn outside the 1st round? Laatikainen? Källarström? That center, I lost his name.

And up untill recently, we haven't missed out on anything really. But now it seems to turn for them.

Immonen I believe

Korpikoski was the last finnish player drafted, and traded for a player that will never come back to the NHL  what a ****** trade that was... i hated Lisin, reminds me of Fedor Fedorov another wonderful pickup by Sather... :amazed: this guy still has a job based on the past of 1984

What people forget is that Korpikoski didn't want to play in NY. He was using the KHL as leverage. Sather dealt him because of this and because Torts felt he didn't have enough offense. Lisin had the same situation in Phoenix.

He didn't want to play for Torts.

I have no doubt that Korps would have stayed had we had a different HC.

He's turned into a solid 3rd liner/PK'er and funny enough, plays a pretty stiff game. Not a hitter by any means, but grinds well along the walls. doesn't give up the puck easily.

Good possession guy.
