so buch's season is over?

his teams stats for the season.

The season is not over - teams not making the cut to compete for Gagarin Cup will play for so-called, Nadezhda (Hope) Cup. This year this group surprisingly features two teams with a history of strong performances in Gagarin Cup - Avangard (Jagr and Cherepanov club) and Traktor (Kuznetzov is leaving for the Washington right now). KHL is getting more competitive.

Nope, season isn't over for him yet, as the KHL runs a "loser's playoff", where the winner receives an additional draft pick, I believe after the 1st draft round (at least they did last year). So we're gonna see a little more of Buchnevich this season.

For those who don't know, he went 7-11-18 in this season in 39 games. In comparison, Marko Dano, a first round pick by the Jackets currently playing for Slovan Bratislava went 2-2-4 over 37 games in the same league. No matter how Buchnevich pans out, I'm gonna mark it as a good pick. He's the kind of player you gamble for.

He's really been beasting for Cherepovets those last 2 games however. I think everybody on here knows about the goal and the assists, but there was so much more to his game lately, it was a pleasant surprise. Not only did he rack up some points, but when he was on the ice, it appeared as he was taking over the game. He played a very in-your-face game, pissing off opponent veterans, protecting the puck well, running guys over on occasion, going to the net, was very solid along the boards and decent on the backcheck.

Things he needs to improve on imo are his awareness when his team is stuck in it's own zone. He's running around a bit too much, at times looks like he doesn't know where to be positionally. Also, his consistency was an issue all season long. While games like the last two would have you thinking the guy's an PPG player at this level, he had stints of being completely unnoticeable for weeks. He stepped up the last few games when it mattered most though, but he seems to choose when to put in full effort and when to just float around a little. That had me annoyed a few times.
It's why I want him to completely destroy the opposition in the "loser's cup" - the defenses of those teams are at a level, where after the last games by Buch, you should think he has a field day with them. If he brings it there, I will mark that a very big plus.

One other thing I'd like to note in a positive way is the way he protects the puck. Think of him as being a weirdo Frankenstein Monsterish clone of a light version of Dubinsky, crossbred with a light version of Nash. He can protect the puck with his body as well as with the quickness and the surprise elements in his puck handling. Him being able to do that at age 18 against grizzled Russian veterans is a very good sign.

I'm looking forward to catching more Cherepovets games next season (have watched about 20 so far this season, so take everything I said here with a grain of salt) and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a lot of hype next season.

Watching 20 games seems to be a good amount to get a feel for a player so I don't think we need to take too much salt ;)

Would be great if he pans out well and heads over after next season. Pure skill guys who can score are certainly something the Rangers need...

the thing is ... after what I've seen, he's not. I mean, yeah, the guy has a lot of skill. But if he pans out, he ideally projects as a ... well, first line agitator. While that certainly is a good thing, the guy seriously needs to bulk up, or he'll get his ass handed to himself by the Chris Neils of the world at some point. At 6'2, possibly a little more, he certainly has the height to do that. Needs some more muscle.

The Butcher is an 18 year old child. If he were fully built at this age, I'd be concerned that he is taking steroids. He will be fine in a couple of years.

The Butcher's stats are a little over 0.46 points per game. For an 18 year old in the world's second-best hockey league, I'd say that is tremendous.

He's the third-highest scoring 18 year old in the history of the KHL. Only 8 teenagers (including 19 year olds) scored more than The Butcher in the history of the KHL.

Incidentally, Tarasenko had slightly less points per game in the KHL as a 20 year old last season. Including 20-year-olds (the age when good North American prospects play in the AHL), only 27 players scored more than The Butcher in the history of the KHL.

Tarasenko and Kuznetsov?

What about Chere?

The same as OV, Malkin, Bure and many more. It was the RSL.

Only been the KHL since 08-09. So, he's not the 3rd best Russian prospect ever, just since then ;)

Still not bad to be the third-highest scoring teenager in 6 seasons in the world's second-best league.

Graves and Duclair's teams played a close game last night in which Val-d'Or won another game, Graves had an assist, a +2, and 6 shots. He is shooting the puck more this season, I like to see that. Especially because his partner is usually an offensive minded guy, like Randy Gazzola. His offense, while still not much, has also picked up as a member of the Foreurs.

Really sucks about Duke's concussion though.

How has Lindberg been looking? Always hearing a lot about Fast/Miller/McI, but not so much about OL. Any chance he is ready for 4th line minutes next year?

I think we should hope for Lindberg to start in HFD next season and really be able to controll the play down there. Kind of have the same development as he had in the SHL were he went from a 4th line C to a 1st line C over night (granted that he isn't a 4th lineer in the AHL, but you get my point).

A few players can adopt really fast, often they are real intense players and hence you can always use them in an energy role. There is not much adoption to do, all they need to do is hit the ice and move their feet and they will be effective.

Lindberg is kind of the opposite to players like that whom are able to adopt to the pro-game real fast. He lives a lot on his smarts and ability to read the play. He will need more time.

Agreed. He's already looking better than he did at the beginning of the year. Barring one of those summer leaps forward that players sometimes (rarely) have, you want him to come in next year and take over as top line center. He's progressing well, but he's not dominating. Next year you want him dictating play to the other team.

It would also help if he got more time with talented wingers. He doesn't have a whole lot to work with down there right now.

Lindberg is Hartford's leading scorer and it's not even close. He has played a lot more games than Miller, Fast, Hensick and Kristo though. As the season has progressed Lindberg's stats have picked up and it seems for a while he's been at least close to point a game numbers. Whether he makes the Rangers out of training camp--if he continues to acclimate and improve I'd expect him to get some real NHL time next year.

Lindberg, Fast and Miller are the only players on the team that don't wilt when the team gets behind, which has been often. Their game/energy remains the same every shift, this is something I look for in prospects down in the "A".

Bourque and McIlrath could be included in that category as well. Kantor when he's healthy. Shawn O'Donnell is pretty worthless, but he competes pretty hard each shift.

Bourques energy is high but I don't see him take control when the team is down(sans one or two games), he shies away a bit when he gets the puck, you'd like to see him take charge, cause he can IMO. Mcilrath plays a good solid game in his zone but what gets him in trouble is too complacent or too aggressive, there is no in between. Thats okay cause he's young enough that it could just be what every young guy goes through until they are fully realized in size and training.
