No it doesn't count as a part of the the 9 game trial if he gets the conditioning stint in the A.

The way to do this is to send him down for a stint after he makes the opening day roster. The benefit is that he gets 7-10 games in the AHL and also the 9 game stint in the AHL, while working out and training with the pros.

Both Brayden Schenn and Alex Pietrangelo got this treatment their last year of junior eligibility, and went back during the WJC and absolutely dominated since they were playing above the competition the months prior to the WJC.

I'm pretty sure the new CBA changed the rules on conditioning stints. The player has to have actually been injured or incapacitated in some way to get approval:

A player who has been on IR or otherwise incapicated (and the team must be able to demonstrate cause) can agree to be assigned to an affiliate for a conditioning stint that cannot last longer than 14 days.

Grigerenkio's conditioning stint was denied because he was healthy recently. I'm pretty sure the NHL won't allow you to send a prospect down to the AHL for a conditioning stint "just because" anymore.

Yeah that conditioning stint thing doesn't work anymore. The NHL is trying to crack down on everything that could be seen as an attempt to circumvent CBA language.

so this is why Justin Falk has not been sent down.. just letting him not play is really gonna help his game whenever he does get that chance to play for an injury or whatever the status is at that time.. :help:

What part "He's a 7th defenseman, we need to keep him around in case of emergency" do you not understand?

well by not playing him for over a month is really gonna help him and his confidence whenever he does get into the lineup, yea he will be ready because sitting out and watching really helps his game on the ice... :help:

players do get rusty by sitting out for too long. do fans realize this... id rather call up McIlrath or Allen if an injury occurs. at least they have been in game action and not sitting for over a month....

I think we can all agree that Punxrocknyc19 has a sense of the team's pulse and where Justin Falk is at mentally and physically than the entire coaching staff which speaks with and watches him play every day at practice. Maybe we should start listening to him.

well in my opinion the Rangers were very stupid to trade a 6th round pick for a guy who never plays, basically what they did in the John Scott trade a few years back.

why couldnt Johnson or Syvret be the 7th dman?? they would have kept that 6th round pick.. who knows maybe that pick could have turned out to something of value..

There's a reason why Justin Falk cost a 6th and why Aaron Johnson and Dan Syvret couldn't find NHL jobs for free. Falk is better. Your attempts at micromanaging are absurd. None of us have seen Falk in a while. You know who has? The coaches. Stop pretending to know better. None of us know anything.

6th round picks are replaceable. If there's a guy on the board the Rangers really like they won't let not having a pick prevent them from getting him.

IMO trading 2nd round picks for rental players (a la Antropov) when you aren't a player or two away from being a contender is stupid. Harder to replace that pick...and the odds are many times higher a 2nd round selection will amount to anything, or even make it to the NHL.

Sather has no problem throwing away picks at Clowe and Antropov. maybe he will trade this years 1st 2ed, Kristo and Lindberg for Mike Cammalleri... :sarcasm:

Falk has played 20 games for the Rangers.

Since 2000, the Rangers have had 16 6th round draft picks

4 of them have played in the NHL
3 for the Rangers
1 more than 10 games, which is Hagelin

Falk is a big young defenseman who can fight. I would make that trade again.

Any year the past 8 besides this one, he is in the starting 6. It's just that we happened to have Staal healthy this year. We had Bickel and Eminger consistantly as the #6 guys recently.

The Falk trade was a good one. We gave up assets that are replaceable and was the better option over Johnson and Syvret. Not only that those, but two guys are very good veteran leaders in Hartford. Liked the trade when it happened and I still think it was a good choice for the 7th defender.

Thanks for the clarification.

Seems like a weird nickname. The way he says it in an American accent, you'd think Duclair were American.

Why American and not english Canadian? ;)

He also says goal in Russian when Grigorenko scores sometimes or "He shoots, he scores" when Erne scores. He just adds some "color" to his play by play. He likes to give nicknames to players.

Yep. A solid 7th defenseman >>>> a 6th round pick any day of the week.

Meh, I mean it is what it is I just hate giving up assets for mediocrity. Falk is ok, but I'd much rather try and hit a home run with a European player no one ever heard of then trade for a 7th DMan.

They could have signed a veteran looking for work, or a project that has NHL experience like Tyson Scratchan or Jonathan Blum or picked up a Kundratek or Urbom off waivers. I know those guys aren't anything to write home about but it's be worth it to have them around and try and develop them.

More picks=more opportunities to hit a home run.

If Tim Erixon can't make the NHL squad next year and is placed on waivers, I claim him and don't look back.

I'd rather have more of a sure thing like Falk than some failure we'd have to try and develop.

4 point night for Adam Tambellini (1-3-4) in 7-1 Hitmen win. Tambellini now has 13-14-27 in 19 games with Calgary #NYR

He's on pace for 102 points over the standard 72 game WHL season. If he didn't have the bad start in the NCAA, we'd be a lot more excited about him. Shows you how low the quality of hockey in the juniors is when someone who can score easily in juniors is having a tough time in college.

We should be excited about him regardless. He's a very solid prospect.

Tambellini is a 19 year old already. Played in the BCHL instead of the WHL last year because he wanted to do the college thing. He should do well in the WHL with the talent he has and Calgary's one of the better WHL teams. It's a good fit.

I don't think "low quality" is correct. Junior hockey is comprised primarily of teenagers, whereas the college game features players well into their early-(and even mid-)twenties. The game is significantly different in the two settings. I think it's fair to say that they prepare you differently, and the two settings place different emphases on different attributes. One is not really of higher quality than the other, though. I mean, how much can you knock the largest player development league in the world?

What we're seeing from Tambellini in the WHL really reinforces why I think NCAA hockey was better for him developmentally. In juniors, he can dominate with his skill. He needs to continue to develop physically though, growing stronger and learning to use his frame to his advantage. College hockey was forcing him to do that. The WHL is not. I'm glad he's succeeding with Calgary, but really, we knew he had pure skill. It's not surprising.
