It's incredible. He and Max Gardiner led Minnetonka to a MN state tourney win and they got hyped to all hell. I went to a bunch of their games that year and honestly never understood it.

Remarkably, the Gardiner pick was 10x worse. He stuck out for mediocre to poor skating at the high school level. Let alone beyond that. And the Blues used a 3rd rounder on him. Played one season with the Gophers...then a season in the USHL (0.5 ppg), then played a season of CLUB hockey at Penn State. Now he's back at D1 again and has 1 point in 19 games. Yeeesh.

max gardiner is so slow. hes become a lesser option at psu as time passes by.

Dear lord. I hadn't followed him since he left Minn. his stats are atrocious.

Val-d'Or won again tonight. Ryan Graves was a +2, highest on either side, and had 4 shots.

Before tonights game, Skapski is tied for 4th in SV% in the WHL. Just pointing that out.

Watching the Erie Otters for the first time in a while. @TroyDonnay's skating is significantly improved from earlier in the season.

Forgot Donnay even existed.

Good to hear of his massive improvement though.

if Callahan gets traded, any chance Rangers can try to get Buchnevich over a year early to make the NHL next year??? he can take over his spot on the 2ed line.. a player like him wont succeed on a bottom line like a player like JT Miller can.. he is a skilled sniper that needs top line minutes.. a lot of teams can start their skilled young forwards in top line minutes with a chance to succeed.... Rangers should replace Callahan from within the organization since Rangers did draft Callahan after all.. i know its a long shot but anything can happen..

Erm, no he can't.

KHL contract, has a lot of refining to do on his game. Let him develop. He's doing great in the KHL for someone his age. Absolutely no need to rush him.

Also, there's very few situations where you can just plug-and-play a player into a top line position. And these Rangers are certainly not in a position to do that.

Under the impression that Buchnevich's KHL contract has one more year after this one. In any case he's 18 years old and not filled out--probably does not know English or not very well and is not used to playing on North American sized rinks and penciling him into a top 6 role in the next 2-3 years seems a bit of a reach. Look at Fast or Lindberg--they have a bit more age and experience than Buchnevich and both wound up in Hartford. IMO if the Rangers move Callahan--it may be for something like a potential younger but early 20's version of himself like a Nieto or a Calvert. Fast is another potential in house replacement.

Adam Tambellini's assist was taken away, but he got a hat trick instead.

Skapski's team played a great game, and won 5-2. Skapski made 28 saves on 30 shots.

Clark said Buchnevich had 2 years remaining on his KHL contract when the Rangers selected him. It should be one more but you never know with the KHL. Who represents him?

Rangers seem to have a good relationship with their Russian prospects and KHL teams.

They seem to allow those prospects more time in the KHL than most teams.

My guess is that Buch plays out his contract and then comes to the AHL so that the Rangers can evaluate his game to North American standards.

I think they pair Duclair and him together. They should draft a center in the first round this year to center those 2 players. Have them come up together.

Tambellini seems like a guy who will slot in on our 3rd line in 2-3 years and make a difference in terms of forechecking and energy.

meanwhile guys like Pashin or Valentenko didnt really care for coming to North America. I hope this does not happen to Buchnevich..

Valentenko kept saying that he wanted to come... if he was given a fair shot at a roster spot. He had no intention of coming and fighting for his place. He wasn't talented enough to stand out over someone but he was consistent though.

He didn't want to leave his family and comfortability to most likely be stuck in a minor league affiliate.

I think you're referring to Pashin who reportedly wanted a roster guarantee, Tank did come over and played in the A for Haimlton and us. I had high hopes for him, think he missed almost a year on a contract year with a shoulder injury.

Yeah Pavel is a good guy and a hard worker. He has a wife and kid to feed, so you can't blame him for wanting 6-10x the money he'd get back home.

It's the same with Swiss prospects now, and why Nino Niederreiter ended up getting traded. The money is far far better in Europe for those guys than the AHL. So it's NHL or bust for them.

Money had absolutely nothing to do with why Niederreiter was traded. He was unhappy with how the Islanders handled him. They had him sit in the press box at the NHL level the entire year as an 18 year old. Then they didn't even invite him to the mini training camp prior to last season once the lockout ended. This pissed him off and led to him demanding a trade. It didn't help that the Islanders left him in the AHL, where he was tearing it up, for the rest of the season. We can debate whether or not he had a right to be upset, but point is that he was, and demanded the trade. The Islanders traded him because he was an unhappy player who refused to be a part of the organization any longer. It had absolutely nothing to do with where he was from or money or "NHL or bust."
