Depending on how he does in training camp, I would definitely give Duclair a taste of NHL hockey. We can keep him for 9 games?

As for KHL stuff, I'm not sure if it applies but remember that thing with Fast last year and the Swedish Hockey Federation; Buch could finish next season and still may have National requirements for the World Championships. We'll know more in about 14 months.

Congrats to Duclair. Let's see how he does in a top three role at Traverse in September before proclaiming him ready for a cup of coffee.

Glad Skapski is playing well. Always important to have good goaltending especially if Talbot bolts after next year.

No point in rushing him. Let him dominate Q next season and then go to AHL when he becomes eligible.

I would. I definitely would give him the Pietrangelo treatment. If he puts on 10lbs of muscle mass he can push for a spot. Would also send him down on a conditioning stint to the AHL so he can get some pro experience.

Let him train and practice with the big league team, and then send him down so he can play in the WJC and get back to dominating the Q for a memorial cup run. I'd give a game or two with Nash and Stepan to get a driven offensive player on the top line in preseason to see if he can keep up.

You guys just saw his 50 goals. How many were of him driving hard to the net and shooting to score?

Outside of Nash there isn't a player in this organization that has The Duke's skillset and drive.

Would a conditioning stint count against the 9 game limit? If so, he might as well play for the Rangers, and if he's not good enough for that, he'd need to go back to the Q.

Conditioning stint where? He isn't getting a conditioning stint in the NHL. Players don't play in the best league in the world to get in shape. And we've already seen that the NHL won't allow players in his position to do a conditioning stint in the AHL (Grigorenko).

Duclair's options are limited. If he doesn't want to go back to the Q, then he has to prove that he's ready for the NHL.

And there's nothing that suggests he doesn't want to go back to juniors. He's a team player and knows his strengths.

I think he deserves a few games at the NHL level for evaluation, though.

Hey Serge, can you help me out here? I'm wondering how the Q playoff seedings work with the 3 divisions. It would be cool if I got to see Duclair in a series but seeing as the Eagles aren't the best and are in a different division than Quebec it seems unlikely.

Divisons don't matter for the playoffs. They go with the overall standings. The 3 division leaders finish 1-2-3.

Quebec would play against Chicoutimi if they stay 4th. They'll play against Cape Breton only if they fall to 5th.

Great, so there's a realistic chance. Gonna have to cheer for Quebec to fall to 5th, sorry . I don't really care for the Eagles though so if that match-up happens I'll definitely be at the games cheering for Tony D to make his way to the Memorial Cup.

No it doesn't count as a part of the the 9 game trial if he gets the conditioning stint in the A.

The way to do this is to send him down for a stint after he makes the opening day roster. The benefit is that he gets 7-10 games in the AHL and also the 9 game stint in the AHL, while working out and training with the pros.

Both Brayden Schenn and Alex Pietrangelo got this treatment their last year of junior eligibility, and went back during the WJC and absolutely dominated since they were playing above the competition the months prior to the WJC.

If D plays well in preseason, giving him 9 games in the NHL and a similar number of games in the AHL would be valuable experience for him. Coaches can mostly tell if he is ready from practice/scrimmage games, but if he is viewed as ready, going with 9+9 might be a good idea to draw him in safely.

First 7-10 games in the AHL, and if he performs well, then 9 NHL games. By this point, we are at the end of November. If he's borderline, send him down to the Q.

But if he uses September (preseason), October (AHL) and November (NHL) to prove himself ready, then he can remain. I doubt it, however.

Either way, for D to spend a couple of months in the pros would be good experience if he is anywhere near ready. There is always a possibility, however, that he shows up and looks like Christian Thomas did in his preseason as a 19 year old. Then he needs to just go back to the Q.
