Maybe true. But considering the team looks, again, to be lacking an offensive punch, I would rather see what Kreider has to give over 40 games, let him settle in, and then go from there. If he hasn't come around and is slumping hard, send him down.
I agree 100%. Ive noticed fans tend to jump the gun on kreider and declare him a failure. has he had a great preseason? No he hasnt but many guys havent who are suppose to be on the opening day lineup. Lets see what kreider does in regular season games, If he stinks it up then send him down

The Rangers have a deal brewing for Powe or they have some teams interested in claiming him because it makes no sense that he has played in 5 of the 6 preseason games.

On Leafs Lunch today on TSN, Ray Ferraro said that the Rangers think they are about two-and-a-half weeks away from Ryan Callahan returning to the lineup and about three-and-a-half-weeks away from Carl Hagelin returning.

Ray did the Rangers-Canucks game on TSN last night.

The Rangers play the Caps on October 16 and Jersey on October 19 for Callahan to return.

Three plus weeks for Hagelin is late October. The Rangers could put Hagelin on Long Term IR if they need the flexibility.

the truth is he is an AV man :sarcasm:

he is AV's new favorite player.. i bet he wont be dealt.. he has 0 value..

10 games and 24 days is long term IR. The 10th game is home opener on October 28th against Montreal. Hagelin would be eligible to return the next night on Long Island.

So did Rupp. So did Gomez. There will be teams looking to dump a player as well. Maybe a player for player swap. Maybe Powe for an AHL player. There are possibilities out there.

i think a team would rather have the AHL player who most likely would be cheaper than Powe 1.5 contract who will be an UFA in 2014... Powe had 0 pts in 34 games   even Kris Newbury had a point in only 6 games.... Powe is useless.... i bet no team would want him.... id rather have kept Rupp....

Powe makes 1.05, not 1.5. Powe is a good soldier. The type of player teams like to have as their 13th forward. Unfortunately, the Rangers have a TON of those guys and lots of good young prospects either ready, or close to ready. Maybe the Rangers keep some of his salary?

I don't want the country club to return either, but Tortorella was also too much in the other end of the spectrum. People jumped on the players' throats when they said they wanted to have fun again and loosen things up. That doesn't mean their won't be any accountability. They just wanted to be able to take more chances and have a more proactive play style. You can't imagine how many times last year I was sick of the Rangers' static and uninspired play because he was too much of a control freak when it came to making mistakes. Too bad he wasn't more of a control freak when it came to focusing on things like this team's transition game. Also accountability and Tortorella? Just look how he handled Richards. He had his favorites too. Torts did some things right like pushing players to show more effort, especially the younger players, but I think his impact on this team is overrated. He gets way too much credit for the 11-12 season. Also, for the people saying things like how he masked this roster's deficiencies. How? What did he do? The Rangers have one of the most mobile bluelines out there and the best goalie in the league. Torts had the Rangers play zone defense and play close to the net. If anyone is coaching to this roster's strengths or at least trying to its AV.

That would be kind of pointless, no? We can bury him in Hartford and clear 925k. How much of the remaining 142k would we be retaining?

Ray Ferraro was a guest on TSN’s Leafs Lunch today and spoke about the Rangers after broadcasting their loss to Vancouver last night.

Ferraro said, “they looked like a team that had been on the road for ten days, or 12 days. They looked disorganized at times, Lundqvist was terrible which is always a surprise to me because I think he is just a terrific goaltender. There were some goals, Henrik Sedin’s second goal, Burrows was in front of the net with about 20 feet, literally 20 feet around him it looked like a pee-wee game, your like, where is everybody!”

“Dan Girardi, who is a really good player was on the ice for all five goals against last night. The Rangers looked about as bad as they possibly could look. They got some good news with Derek Stepan signing. They are about 2 and a half weeks away, they think, of getting Ryan Callahan back and 3 and a half weeks until Carl Hagelin can come back. That is 3 really good forwards.”

He added, “I still think they will have the same problems and struggle to score goals, they should be good defensively.”

One more road preseason game tonight.

They will have trouble scoring goals with players like Pyatt and Powe in the line-up.

I think Powe ends up making it, Pyatt and Asham aren't reliable on the PK. Pyatt looked terrible 4 v 4 and 5 v 4, Asham offers more value but he's been spotty. Powe is either the 13th forward, or 4th liner that is reliable in his role and is a good PKer.

Pouliot looks like he cowers under intimidating conditions. 5 teams in 6 years, and I think we already see the reason. Team in general looks terrible defensively, both in terms of coverage and compete level.

If AV's system needs guys that are in shape, then I can see the poorly conditioned players struggling, but if it is about puck pursuit and stick on stick plays... well he'll find out very quickly that this team isn't the Red Wings.

This preseason with its split squad games, it's been hard to get a grasp on what this team is. And a team without and identity is a team that looks soft, doesn't battle, and is not a contender.

basically this entire post is my thoughts :handclap:.

How much cap space would that save?

LTIR doesn't actually save cap space. Hagelin would still count in full against the cap. It just means we can replace his salary, even if it means going over the cap. But any replacement salary uses up our available cap space first. LTIR space can't be banked. It's use it or lose it.

I can agree that Torts was too far to the crazy end of the spectrum, but my fear is that the team "having fun" looks like last night's game - them trying to do things that they apparently aren't capable of. If you want to take chances and play proactively, that's fine, but if you're sucking at it, you need to either have a safer, plan B type strategy, or you need to realize that maximum fun and maximum success just aren't going to mesh and remember this is a job and the goal is to win.

I was sick of the uninspired play last year, but frankly I'd rather watch them struggle to tie up a close game than watch them get their ***** handed to them by a team who can play the style they're shooting for way better than they can.

I'd say Torts masked the team's deficiencies by having their game depend on their D play, which was obviously their strength. They were/are deficient at carrying the puck into the zone and at possessing the puck in the zone for any useful amount of time, so those plays took a backseat to playing responsible D. Yes, the D are mobile in that they can skate well, but can they make plays? Can they put up points? Yeah, Hank is an incredible goalie, but can he cover up for the D overcommitting to offense and leaving him exposed constantly? Especially if those plays aren't leading to goals? I don't know, but we're all about to find out.

If AV is trying to coach to their strengths, god help us, because they've looked pretty awful so far. Granted, they've been playing kids and they're missing an entire second line, but still, they don't look cut out for the game they've been trying to play, not yet at least.

This plus he can kill penalties. Would be surprised still if he makes it, alotta bottom six competition. I still keep Ash and Dorsett over him. Betts had few points and everybody loved him.

agreed of the two you keep Asham cause they are going to have to goon it up in the yr. Also whether we like it or not why Bickel may get some games in. If I was to guess I would say the below starts on the team buuuuuut I am likely wrong:laugh:

this is not lines btw

Hagelin(Kreider) Stepan, Callahan (Miller)
Pouliott, Brassard, Nash
Pyatt , Richards, Zuccarello
Boyle, Moore, Dorsett
Asham

McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Del Zotto
Moore, Stralman
Falk , Bickel

Lundqvist , Biron

Tom Wilson scored his 3rd of the preseason tonight and needs an assist for the Gordie Howe hat trick.. Caps have drafted a solid one.... i wish Rangers had drafted him.. Rangers need big bodies that use their size...
