I agree with alot of SBOB's post.

I don't think Kreider should go down. I thought he looked good in edmonton. Lets see how he plays tonight if hes playing.

Nash has been a disappoint thus far. Talk about kreider not being hungry enough, the same can be said for nash...at both ends of the ice. Just going through the motions.

While Richie hasnt set the world on fire, I do think his skating and overall involvement looks better.

I think Miller has impressed me the most thus far. I think Miller, Kreider stay. Lindberg, Fast pair up in CT.

I know it's pre-season but I see bad habits, sloppy play and a lack of emotion that certainly is concerning.
Right on all counts. I am not liking what I am seeing. The team is smaller, less feistier and not as hungry as last year. I also fear that the accountability that Torts put in will be gone.

Not to be completely over the edge, but I half expected Kamensky to make an appearance by watching these games.

I don't see what Kreider has done to make this team.

Unfortunately, I think you could replace Kreider with any of the players thought to be on the cusp going into camp, and the statement is true. Miller had the one good game and I think Moore has played really well for his expected role. Outside of that no one has really made their mark.

It's going to take awhile for AV and his staff to our their stamp on this team. We're seeing what last year's team would have looked like I'd they stopped collapsing and blocking shots without changing much else. You can't fix ineptitude in a week, they'll get the kinks worked out. Growing pains.

You can't blame a lack of intensity or heart on a new system. You can play in any system and exhibit those qualities.

With the way every shot they take is right into the goalie's bread basket I thought it was Val Kamensky.

I agree.

Shorten season last year along with a rosters overhaul, and now to boot, a new coach this season. Instant results should not be expected. One thing that is looking better is our puck possession. I still think our D will need to adjust when the proper time is to jump in since we have been caught with our pants down more then a few times.

Like BU said, growing pains.

my bet is Asham and Mashinter will swap places on the 4th line depending on the size and speed of the team.. if Mashinter gets sent down, i bet some team (florida, Canes, Habs teams with not much size) would claim him.

Oh for ****s sake. If I was talking about heart and intensity I would have mentioned it. I'm talking about fundamentals that change when a new system is put in place. It's going to take a little time.

Not making excuses, and not pleased with most of the pre season, but there have been some bright spots.

This is what this team looked like, intensity and heart wise under Torts when Callahan was out too.

Ineptitude? These are not inept players. They are playoff veterans, who are two years removed from going to the ECF. And this does not address the utter lack of hustle. Like I said, and only halfway joking, the way that the team is playing, I thought it might have been 1998 all over again.

As Singin' pointed out, the lack of intensity is there. And is not being addressed.

I come out somewhere in the middle.

I've seen plenty of teams in plenty of sports have awful preseasons, especially as they were implementing a new system and/or looking at kids, and then go on to have great regular seasons - sometimes even starting at day one. Having said that, I would like to see more intensity and more finish for sure.

Am I the only one wondering how much of that can be directly attributed to Brad Richards? I mean, he basically IS an "old-time" Ranger out there. Bloated contract, living off his laurels, playing a step slow. He brings down his linemates no doubt - and I wonder if his presence doesn't bring down overall morale in the same way the old country club teams suffered from the fat old vets.

There are also players who I just think are problematic and drag down all five on the ice (well, six counting the goalie) when they're out there - in particular at certain positions. Boyle at center. MDZ at RD. Richards anywhere. Powe and Pyatt getting regular time anywhere other than on the PK. (I also would have liked to have seen Yogan and Kantor get longer looks. Right now they don't belong anywhere other than the fourth line - and they could use more seasoning, no question - but they bring it to the other team rather than fending them off the way Powe and Pyatt do.)

I think fixing any of those things would be beneficial to the overall team. I also think getting to the regular season and having Hank make a couple of big saves, rather than let in an early knuckleball, will go a long way towards kickstarting confidence and getting the team headed in the right direction.

They may be playoff veterans but that doesn't make them immune to stagnation. This team stagnated offensively a season and a half ago. I agree they are not inept, but it hasn't been a part of their game for some time, and will take awhile for them to get back into the swing of things. Especially playing a more open style, it's like any other aspect of life. Change causes a bit of chaos.

The lack of intensity is there in the preseason, if it's still there Oct. 3rd I'll join you guys in being concerned. Until there is something substantial on the line outside of HF posters pride I'm not concerned. Especially since Callahan is out, the intensity he brings is the pulse of this team. Go back in time and look at how this team has played with him out of the lineup. Same exact thing as we saw last night.

When I think of Kreider, the thing that is most striking is that most times I barely notice him.

How can a guy with his size, speed and skill set go so unnoticed?

The shift against Boston where he bounced Seidenberg around or the OT give and go goal with Nash are extremely rare displays of his capabilities. Most of the time it's like he's....just not there.

He's young. We have to be patient because clearly there is a lot to this kid, but man boyo....show us some fire out there more often. It's a mental thing, IMO. I'm beginning to wonder about Kreider.

I hope Yogan and Kantor have good seasons in the A. Would be nice to see some homegrown skill and grit in our bottom 6 next year.

I don't think people are looking at the results (at least I'm not). I'm looking at the the way they are playing—and that is uninspired and with a total lack of intensity or emotion.

Growing pains? This roster is not comprised of rookies.

Doesn't matter how old you are when things change it takes getting used to...

You're a knowledgeable poster, not sure why you lower yourself to arguing semantics.

how about a drafting or signing an young (22-27 years old) home grown heavy weight instead of signing some UFA washed up heavyweight 30+. remember when the Bruins signed Orr as an UFA and then was waived a few years later and was claimed off of waivers by Rangers and did well with the Rangers until he left for the Leafs and Rangers had to sign Brashear :help: this is what the Rangers need to do.. Rangers will get pushed around this year. is anyone really afraid of Asham or Dorsett..... Rangers need a guy like Ryan Reaves or Jarred Boll someone that can actually play a bit that can fight and actually uses their size... is a shame that Jason Wilson isnt skilled at all, maybe he can make it once he is a regular in the AHL.

im really starting to like Yogan and Kantor and hopefully they will make it on the 4th line in the future..

Hate to say it, but I think we need to move some pieces out and bring in so fresh meat that were not exposed to Torts system because you can see players moving to spots that Torts wanted them to go to and then a split second later they realize it and they get caught in the middle.
