I said you guys meaning jets fans I didn't say you only...All you read in this thread is that you guys need offense...All I'm saying is you gave up close to 400 points but that's never brought up...Just an observation from a 7-9 Giants fan

WFirst of all i never said our defense is great. Our front 7 is very talented and young. our secondary needs more work/experience. I simply said the jets have a ton of money to spend and have 12 draft picks. the jets were ranked as a bottom 3 team going into this past season and had a .500 record without much talent. they will only get better.

I keep hearing how great the Jets D is...You guys all say the same thing..all we need is a stud WR and TE blah blah and here we go...Do u people realize you gave up 387 points??? What am I missing here? You think you have a legit D giving up almost 400 points?

Believe me, the Jets need OFFENSE badly.

COMPLETELY disagree with the bold.

Tuck had a very good year, perhaps on the fringe of pro bowl caliber. One of his best seasons and is a captain on our team.

Rolle is a guy you CANNOT get rid of. He is the leader of our defense and a veteran amongst mostly younger DB's. He had an outstanding year and was snubbed of a pro bowl spot.

As for Jon Beason, I don't know what else he can do to show fans/giants that he is a legit MLB. Beason immediately made a huge impact on our defense and vastly changed our D for the better. He was IMO the defensive MVP for the Gmen. We've been clamoring for a good to great MLB for a while and have struck out in the draft. We've hit a home run in Beason and you're not impressed?

Cutting Kiwi (as well as letting Tuck go as you've previously stated) would leave us with JPP (coming off knee/back injuries) and Moore at DE who has a total of 60 defensive snaps on his career. As we all now, the Giants thrive when they have great DE play. Getting rid of Tuck and Kiwi would be about as irrational a move the front office could make.

Get rid of most veterans on D? Why? Besides Webster, the vets on D showed up this year. I don't know if you watch every second of every game but our D was far from the problem this year. The offense had an abomination of a season and left our D on the field for over 65% of games; and special teams certainly didn't help.

Simply, rebuild the O-line and add some key acquisitions elsewhere and we can be where we want to be this time next year.

Oh, and fire Gilbride.

The D was superb vs backup/crap QBs. We need speed & athleticism on D. That doesn't generally go with keeping aging vets at the end of their prime. When do you make a change? This is perfect time. A bad year and a built in roster turnover with so many UFA.

TUCK
Yes Tuck was great this year. He's also been a total vagina for 3 years. He had to be told to stop moping around in 2011. IMO he's a head case who played hard in a contract year.

For arguments sake lets say it was injuries holding Tuck back. Why would he not continue to be injured often? Better to get rid of him a year early than a year late.

ROLLE
More talk than substance. Will Hill is far superior player. He's not worth his cap hit. I'd take him as a 3rd safety in big nickel ideally. His intangibles are great but not worth $8mil or whatever.

BEASON
Beason is horrible in coverage. Carolina GAVE HIM AWAY. He is not out savior. Why pay a premium for a 2 down run stopper. Just because Reese can't draft?

KIWI
I thought his play really plummeted this year. He also took numerous bonehead penalties. If he can't play DE & can't play LB ... Why keep him?

NYG need a rebuild. They're old & expensive.

Mara was pretty good today.

Said the offense is "broken". Hopefully they move on from Gilbride.

The best part was he seemed to understand that the roster was worse than the coaching.

Unfortunately Reese will get to stay for now but at least his seat should be a little warm now.

The Jets were last or nearly last in the league in turnover differential. Opponents had a lot more possessions in plus territory than the Jets did. Also, the scored 27TD on the season. Less than 2 a game. Offense is a bigger issue. The Jets defense has held QB to the lowest QBR since Rex took over. Turn it over less and the defense gives up less points. It's that simple.

RE:NYG draft

I could see us going DB pretty easily. We are paper think at CB.

This draft is so loaded at OL that it might be a good year to think of trading next years 1st to get back in late 1st.

UFA is gonna be really interesting for NYG this year

The defense was 11th in overall yardage conceded. The offense allowed six touchdowns to opposing defenses as well--that's 42 points right there. Factor in a special teams unit that Mike Westhoff called "the least talented [he's] seen in over 30 years," and it just goes to show that the defense carried the team from beginning to end.

With this iteration, if the defense had an off game, like against Cincinnati, Tennessee and Buffalo, the team would get blown out. The offense wasn't capable of picking up the defense. Offensively the team finished 25th overall, yet they won 8 games. How do you explain it?

The Jets defense wasn't elite, but with an average offense on the other end, it might very well have finished top five overall. They could use another corner and another safety, but that's the only deficiency on that side of the ball. And neither of them are glaring issues, really.

Outside of S and CB, Jets could use another ILB, not really sure how I feel about Harris and Davis, both are meh, Harris is still slow, although had a much better year than what he did last year.

Wouldn't mind them taking one with one of their 3rd round picks.

I like DeMario Davis. He improved a lot from last year to this year, and I'd hope for another big leap going into his third season.

Harris looked good this season. He'll be 30 by next year, so you figure he still has a couple good seasons left in him. It would probably be wise to invest one of the many mid-round picks in an eventual replacement for him.

Beyond the obvious additions needed at the skill positions on offense, additional depth will be the biggest help to the Jets heading into next season. Lots of picks and lots of money to spend. It should help the special teams unit quite a bit as well.

The Jets have a lot of cap room i think upwards of 48-50 million. then they ahve 12 draft picks. I expect the playoffs next year

Yea, Davis will be back, looks like Harris is going into his last year of his deal so his cap number drops pretty good, wonder if he would look for an extension this off season. Harris has a cap hit of 7 million next year, if they cut him they would save 5 million, think that could be something to watch.

Specials has to get better, no doubt, I do like Trufant, Lankster and Bellore, but they need to add more to that group.

Already explained above why I'm not a big fan. He's not a top 15 pick. Would be horrible to pick him that high. No issue if we trade down to the bottom end of the 1st round.

Ill agree to disagree.

IMO, He's the leader & 3 down MLB we have lacked since AP.

We'll see in 3yrs.

No reason to beat a dead horse.

CBS reporting on Killdrive now. I hope he takes his dumbass son with him.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/12...to-fire-offensive-coordinator-kevin-gilbride/

Gilbride being gone is GREAT.

I do hope it's not Mike Sullivan replacing him, feel like not much would change.

I want Chris Palmer back. IMO, Eli played by far his best when Palmer was his QB coach.

Sullivan at WR coach again would be great tho

EDIT-Sullivan was qb coach in 2011 for 2nd SB run where Eli was IMO best Qb in nfl that year. Maybe he should come back after all. I thought that was Palmer.

But he's not a good fit at 4-3 MLB. He fits much better on the outside in a 4-3. Or inside in a 3-4. You need to be able to stop the run to man the middle in a 4-3. He can't do that. As slip said, MLB is not a valuable draft position unless you are an ELITE MLB like Kuechly. Mosley is no Kuechly.
