If the Giants keep falling, they need to take Jake Matthews (OT). It will allow them to slide Pugh inside or to C. You solidify the line for the next decade with a move like that.

Snee is done. Diehl is done. Boothe isn't a starter. Giants need to take 2 OL in this draft. 2 guys that can be starters. They need a starting CB, too. Go:

1: OL
2: CB
3: OL

or

1: CB
2: OL
3: OL

Ideally, if we are ultra bad, we go:

1. Jake Matthews (OT - Miss St.)
2. Purifoy (CB - FL) or Dennard (CB - Mich. St.)
3. Gabe Jackson (G - Miss. St.) -- we may need to trade back into the 2nd round for him.

Color me as someone who definitely wouldn't mind the Giants going back to back years spending their first pick on the OLine. Needs a major revamp. Pugh is a decent enough start, even if he has t-rex arms ;)

Its all because of Rex and his big mouth..Nobody likes him and in the very near past he was a gasbag..His act got tired fast and people want to see him fail...As far as the talent angle goes you guys went into the seaon with bad WR'S and basically no QB so your ranking was close to what it should have been..Geno is a breath of fresh air for that franchise

Again though--last season we had terrible WRs, the worst-rated QB in the league and an older, slower defense. And still won six games. What happened in the offseason to transform a bad team into the worst team?

Pugh was absolutely horrendous last week. I am not ready to anoint him as a starting RT just yet. I'd prefer him to be on the inside. I think he'd make an outstanding C.

I have hated Rex a lot less lately because he truly seems quite humbled. I always said I'd root for the Jets again after he's gone, but I could tolerate humble Rex, too.

Well, the whole line was horrendous last week, but you're absolutely right. I have faith in Pugh's upside as a guard/center. Taking an OT this year in the 1st round would not disappoint me at all.

dude Jake Matthews plays for my Texas A&M Aggies... ;)

Also, he could go #1 overall. I doubt the Giants are going to be THAT bad...

You can place a player on IR to free up a roster spot, but as far as I know there's no mechanism in place to create any additional cap space. Injured players still count on the cap.
Thanks. This definitively answers my ?. We could put a new guy/guys on, but the cap would be the same and we would not gain any room if it was not already there. No special breaks for season ending injuries.

It really doesn't matter, though, as there's no one available as a free agent that would require anything over the minimum to sign (and the Jets have the cap space for that).
Agreed, but thinking ahead of the curve in case some opportunity did present itself.

Sanchez's contract runs through 2016.
My bad on getting that date wrong, thanks.

There's no reason to not cut him after this season or before next season.
Concur.

You could keep him on the roster and let his contract expire, but that would actually cost the team more against the cap than if they were to cut him. It would also create an ugly, ugly situation.
Concur, multiples.

He's gone after the season. It makes sense every way you look at it.
Thank God.

Again, thanks o captain our captain nyr2k2!!

Get rid of Sanchez and his stupid hair thing. That green thing. Tampa Bay should have taken Sanchez as part of the Revis trade. TB benched Freeman and are going with Mike Glennon of NC State. The Jets liked Glennon in the draft. The Jets brass also like Freeman in the draft instead of Sanchez but Rex wanted Sanchez. Revis's uncle Sean Gilbert wrote a book called The $29M Tip. Gilbert played for the Rams and Skins. This guy was the king of the holdout. Revis learned from him. Derek Stepan must have been given an advanced copy.

Yeah, should have been something like the tackle they wanted to dump (Albert?) and their 1st + Revis + Sanchez.

I'm too busy w/filing taxes to go back and look at the math, but would cap $$ suggest something around Sanchez for Freeman? If so, does that make sense for us?

Only if you want to create another QB controversy. If you have faith in Geno Smith (the Jets do), there's no reason to add someone like Freeman.

Anybody hearing if Josh Gordon on the Browns is indeed being shopped? He would be a nice addition for the Jets.

as much as id love to get matthews i think thats a pipe dream, as bad as this teams been i dont think were picking that high come the draft.... that said as much as i love jerry reese i think hes let the talent pool with the O-line dry up, should have been going after o-lineman two years ago and we wouldnt be in this position, as great as snee and diehl have been for this team the signs were there that they were on the decline and now were screwed.

also agree with you i dont like pugh on the outside i think he would be an ideal center/guard

I'm not going to lie but I actually hope this team sucks this year. I never really thought that way until I saw just how damn bad our O-Line is. The only way to truly replenish it would be to suck terribly and get an elite O-Line prospect.

I'm pretty good at WR with Marshall, Colston, Mike Williams and Stevie Johnson.

I also have Emmanuel Sanders. Roddy White just hit waivers. Should I drop Sanders in the hopes that White gets healthy and becomes a legit #1 again? Or just hold onto Sanders?

Mel Kiper Jr. Rookie Rankings

2. Sheldon Richardson, DT, New York Jets
One of the things I really liked about Richarson at Missouri was his ability to disrupt the run game. A lot of defensive tackles or 3-4 defensive ends who have enough quickness to penetrate lose leverage against the run and get themselves out of position. But not Richardson, who didn't just occupy blocks, he could make tackles on his own both in the backfield and down the line. The Jets are getting that player so far. He's currently fourth in total tackles on the Jets defense, and has been a steady, solid force in all three games to start the season. He's always around the ball on run stops. If the Jets are still giving up just 3.2 yards per carry after Week 17, Richardson could still be this high.

11. Geno Smith, QB, New York Jets
So far Geno has been more clutch than good, coming up with a big pass against the Bills and a big penalty against the Bucs. So if you think this is a little too low based on the Jets' 2-1 start, I'd argue that Smith has been pretty inconsistent with his accuracy, has taken some sacks that he shouldn't have and wouldn't be starting in most places. But this is supposed to be a compliment -- just as I said it was a great pick for the Jets when they got Smith so low -- so let's also point out that Smith has shown a lot of poise, clearly knows how to throw a deep ball (which could be a bigger part of what the Jets do going forward, particularly if Stephen Hill is running those routes), has tried to limit his mistakes by throwing the ball away on a number of occasions and isn't helped by a weak running game. I think he's on his way up these rankings, not down.

Richardson is a ****ing stud. With Mo Wilkerson, Coples, Ellis, Big Snacks, Davis and a rejuvenated Harris, the Jets have a nasty front seven.

I like what I've seen from Geno. He knows what he's doing out there.

I remember at the draft people were bashing the richardson pick(mostly because that was the revis trade pick) but this kid is very talented. We have a young talented front seven. Geno smith hassnt been consistent yet but i do like his arm and mental make-up. I just wish he had more offensive weapons, Holmes is good but Holmes isnt a top WR IMO
